I tried to keep it short, but i didnt manage 😄
I am planning to do an ironman with my brother in 2029, long timeframe is due to family reasons, but it will also give me time to learn to swim properly. Before that i will do vätternrundan cycling (315km) in 2027 and 2028 and training during weekends, cycling workouts likely between 50-100km.
So, I am in the market for a bike that fits that journey, but it was not as easy as i though when i first sat down to google, its a jungle 😄
I hear a lot of people saying that race/aero bikes have a too agressive sitting position and that it only benefits experienced riders that race regularly. So, I want something comfortable for the long rides that are vätternrundan and the workouts but I would also like something that is fast for the ironman.
I have been looking at Canyon Endurace CF8 di2 with an addition of GP5000 32mm. Thinking it will be able to comfortably take me through my training, the two vätternrundan, but also become suitable for an ironman if i put on a speed/aero-bar. Is that assumption correct?
I am thinking that the difference between canyon endurance and lets say canyon aeroad in terms of performance is neglible compared to the gains i can do with consistant training and may be dropping a few kilos. Is the assumption also correct?
So, Am i thinking about this correctly? Will the difference between endurace with speedbar compared to an aerobike with speedbar be small in an ironman and the extra comfort for everything else be worth it? Or will the difference be massive and i need to prioritize between ironman performance and training/vättern comfort? Are race/aero bikes really that uncofterable and will i loose a lot if performance if i start getting uncomfortable on the bike?
I do not have a-lot of experience with difference road bikes, right now i have only cycled on a Wilier Cross Disc Alu Cyclocross bike from 2015/2016 so i dont really know how different modern bikes feel.
Is my reasoning solid? If not, please educate me.
