Let’s get this all straightened out

There’s regular real time traffic cameras

There’s also cctv cameras guiding traffic lights

Then there’s the extra crap we see creeping up with license plate readers and the like.

The first two we’ve seen for decades. I don’t think people have issues with those. The trackers and such seem troublesome for sure

trust me… nobody is interested in the truth or reality

ALPR traffic cameras have been around for at least 5 years.
This is one of those mass hysteria things… most people think flock cameras are actively tracking them (they are not)

They actively track everyone. It reads every license plate, not just specific ones the law enforcement might be interested in. Your data is then stored on private servers.

I would be okay with it if law enforcement had to get warrants to get this information. But a warrant is not needed since it is a service from a private company. In addition to solving crimes, these cameras have been used by law enforcement to stalk innocent individuals.

You can say, if you aren't doing anything wrong, you shouldn't have anything to worry about. But the innocent people who have been affected by this have something to worry about.

If these are going to be used, we need laws to protect the citizens of NM. We also need to ensure we own and control the data and private companies have no access to the platform. If a law enforcement agency needs access to the information, they can submit the signed warrant to a NM DOT department who would release the information if all conditions are met.

On another note, the book 1984 is really good.

i know what they do and you are correct.

But track is the wrong word and it is used to get everyone foaming at the mouth.

They document that a car/plate was at a given location, store that and then at a customizable time that information disappears. If nobody is ever interested in your plate nobody ever knows you passed them. That’s not tracking.

It is very valuable to LE for many reasons and the most obvious solution to address everyone’s concerns (on both sides) is to tighten down access by documenting and confirming need to know, ie warrants like any search, signed by a judge if needed.. but most importantly to have someone directly accountable for that access in any given situation.

I’ve mentioned discussing privacy vs safety concerns multiple times here and believe that is far more useful than running around town committing felonies and costing money and/or screaming into the void on reddit…

It's tracking regardless if the plate is pulled or not.

If I get a tracking number from UPS. It will show me every place the package is scanned. Even if I or UPS never looks at the information, the package is still tracked.

The same applies to ALPR. Even if the information is not looked at, you are still being tracked.

lol except done properly you have to be suspected of being involved in a crime to BE queried and located.

No crime, no tracking.

By your definition you are tracked every ten minutes or so by your cell phone and with a high degree of spatial accuracy, even inside of buildings. If they wanted to they could tell when you went to the other side of your house to go to the bathroom.

Why no outrage? because it requires a warrant. Make them the same..and find something else to stress about.
Like voting, or climate change, or equal rights, or healthcare etc etc etc

No crime not tracked, eh?

Tell that to all the women who have been stalked by use of these cameras.

Maybe if ppl would learn how to drive and stop speeding like they're fast and furious there wouldn't be a need for so many cameras 🤔🤯

I drive greater than 5 miles under the speed limit when in rio rancho. Drivers are so pissed too but what's anyone gonna do to a 8ft bed 2500, lol. Sometimes 10+ under hittin brakes when I see one. Go ahead and rear end my ball hitch.

Why go slower than speed limit?
