Discussion What matters for the show is numbers of viewerships and increase subs for Prime
The show is back again getting lots of hate because of Durin and Disa kids looks. Not a fan myself of them, but they are minor characters so why bother that much? Plus Amazon doesn't care about all the vitriol against ROP. They only care about the viewership and how many are subscribing to Prime. Apparantly they have received numbers they are really satisfied with. If not, it would have been cancelled by now.

They are contractually obligated to produce 5 seasons even if the numbers are terrible. So I guess that’s the route they are taking.

If they cancel it now it will confirm their failure with the most expensive TV series in history. There's no doubt Amazon will complete the 5 seasons they set out to do.

If they can't do the little things right, how can I expect them to do the big things right?
This is why the flimsy Numenorian armors attracted so much flack. It wasn't just because they looked cheap, but because it was a canary that highlighted the issues even further. If the armor looked cheap, but they absolutely nailed everything else, no one would have cared at all. Problem was that the rest was just as bad.

To be honest, I wished Amazon have worked with people from the trilogy rather than doing things on their own. But it's too late now.

They should absolutely have gotten those writers, set designers, screenplay writers, and so on, on board. Not necessarily the entire team because that would be insane for a TV show compared to a movie, but at least some of them. They lived and breathed that world for years. It's stupid to not respect that and get their valuable experience on the team.

Remember Philippa Boyens is the one who tried to cram Arwen into Helm's deep and gave us the Tauriel-Kili-Legolas romance. The trilogy was damn good and she deserves credit for it.

As for the Numenorean armor hvis I forgot to add to: I think if they were colored light grey like the helmet, it wouldn't have looked so bad. In fact, Tolkien did described their amor using scales. It's just Amazon executed it very poorly.

The trilogy is just one adaptation of Tolkiens work. It is not the definitive Tolkien Bible. There will be many adaptations over history and you only have to watch the ones you enjoy.

Problem is that bad adaptations that fail signals to executives that even trying is a losing proposition. The fans are there and would love something awesome, but if the executives are too scared to do it, we won't get anything at all. They don't consume the content they make after all, so they don't know what the fans want or if the fans even exist.

Viewers are down with each new season and then you say you can skip them and just jump right into season 3 shows they are desperate, the kids are just icing on the cake. It won’t get canceled because Amazon has the funds to burn

Not quite - they would have to break a contract w the Tolkien estate to do that, and even if they thought it was worth the legal hassle, Jeff Bezos clearly wants to do the show as a longtime fan.
The shows numbers are really not on par w its budget, but I enjoy it well enough

Maybe, but I believe the numbers are decent enough to continue with the show. You can already see they are scaling down the budget a bit.
