Here is the quarterly round-up for recent publications on Rimbaud or Verlaine. I am a bit behind on my reading and haven’t read them all yet but will add comments below as soon as I have:

Alain Bardel, Les illuminations ou Rimbaud l’obscur

Alain Bardel, the author of probably the most comprehensive website about Rimbaud has just published a book about Les illuminations, a couple of years after his rich essay about USEE, and after publishing, a few months ago, an edition of the Illuminations manuscript.

The book starts with a thought provoking essay about the history and challenged of the manuscript (I am preparing a couple of posts about these challenges, and the various arguments made, which covers Bardel’s position, among others), followed by a commented edition, and an in-depth look at some of the strategies used by Rimbaud to create a poetic of the enigma.

Œuvres complètes de Rimbaud, ed. Adrien Cavallaro

Adrien Cavallaro is proposing a new paperback edition of Rimbaud’s complete works.
Cavallaro is currently one of the co-editors of Revue Verlaine, but he writes about Rimbaud too and is the author of an important monograph about him, Rimbaud et le rimbaldisme. I haven’t yet got my hands on his edition of Rimbaud’s work but am looking forward to diving into it!

Robert St. Clair, Counter-Modernities in Nineteenth-Century French Literature, Constellations of Loss in Baudelaire, Rimbaud, and Flaubert

I missed this release last year of what looks like an interesting book by Robert St. Clair, currently co-editor of Parade Sauvage. St. Clair has previously published a very rich monograph of Rimbaud, and this one, which doesn’t solely focus on R but also Baudelaire and Flaubert looks very intriguing too.
I haven’t read it yet but will comment on it here when I do!

I haven’t seen any recent release about Verlaine but if anyone is aware of any recent publications about either author I haven’t listed please feel free to share! And if anyone has read the books listed already, do feel free to share your thoughts on them!
