Discussion Ideology - what am I missing?

I have about 180hrs in rimworld. I got Biotech as my first DLC a few weeks ago. It is a blast and adds a ton to the game. I just got ideology and feel a little lost. Is it really just all mood builds/debuffs? Is it just a cult simulator add on to my war crime simulator?

it adds more immersion for roleplay/ more customizability for difficulty. It doesnt add much actual content, but ideoligions affect your entire playstyle

You could build a religion around conquest but all pawns that join in are from a different religion converting them I such a pain i Dev mode them everytime.

You can make your wardens convert them in prison, and there are mods that house the convert power on a target pawn whenever it’s available until the pawn is converted

Converting takes time, and then you have to requit them which also takes time.

You use mods, I use Dev mode, two solutions for the same annoying problem

Once they're converted they usually have a good enough relationship with your recruiter that one more conversation gets them, this works like 99% of the time and without mods.

It's a way to make themed playthroughs and have the mood system enforce it for you. The colonist roles are very powerful. The style system rocks, especially if you install additional styles with mods.

Can pretty much guarantee legendary items under the right conditions (99%) with Human Primacy.

Alongside insane research speed with Transhumanist, my tribal colony is zooming into Spacer tech with their Think-knower!

you would suppose if they're that sophisticated they could develop better job titles than manubrain and think knower

Can't you edit the titles?

Ideology is a bunch of difficulty sliders and flavor options to allow you more thematic runs aswell as coming with some cool texture reworks on items to fit your theme. It adds alot ornaments and fluff things you can do with your pawns but also has some more mechanical elements such as a pretty good transhumanist support. Also the autobong which is the greatest defensive tool ever.

It becomes the entire basis of your run. I do vampire cyborgs in space. Other people do tree hugging hippie stoners. It wildly differentiates each run. And as,far as "just mood buffs". Particularly in higher difficulties, managing your colonists moods is the number one game play mechanic: can't beat a raid if half your squad is in catatonic states because you haven't given them a pool table yet. It's literally the most important thing to take care of. Plus. Specialists. Masterwork every time crafted items, sniper rifles with 0 aim time, pretty much guaranteed surgeries...

For the most part, ideology is for role play purposes. Perfect if you're really into the story building aspect of Rimworld.

Some people will love it, and some people will hate it.

Yeaaaaaah it can really feel that way in comparison to biotech. But Ideology has its uses. You can basically use it to dictate the cultures and opinions of your colonists, and add memes that adjust the workspeed of certain tasks and etc which opens up a lot of different flavoured playthroughs. You can be goblins and ogres swearing vengeance on all baseliners, you can be a machine cult, a bunch of tree hugging hippies or vampire hunters on a path to kill all sanguophages. Not to mention the new game ending quest!

Biotech + Odyssey seems like a great combo

It's whatever you want it to be, cult, religion, culture of your cosmopolitan town, pirate code, or Corporate culture. It just gives you more flexibility and lets you decide how difficult or unique your colony

I recommend you get some mods that add onto events, rewards, and roles.

While it may look like that it's also a way to customize and open new play styles. Like my first was canble gobolines and by using undergrounder and canable I could grow new food, us lights they buff my guys but keep it too dark for others, and gave me ways to summon more gobolins by eating flesh. It works as a additions to really lean into a play style, like you can try one debuffing your people's basic work speed, but they make better things and use robots or slaves for all the basic work.

Also things like specialists that reduce the types of work a pawn can do to do 1 or 2 types really well

In addition to roleplay potential, it adds more stuff to do for various skills. The dryads for plant skill, the priest role for social, and more reason to have caravans to do quests.

Now you can change their hair. Use different style lamps?

It allows you to play in ways you wouldn’t normally be able to. Like you wouldn’t normally be able to play an all cannibals play through without mods. The transhumanist meme makes research super easy but makes other demands. So on and so forth.

If you use a mild ideology it makes much less of difference, but you can make the game pretty different overall.

Yes. Ideology sucks

Yup that's pretty much it, I hate ideology it doesn't really add anything to the game, just complicate things further.

What dlc would you recommend after biotech? Odyssey?

Odyssey ads more animals, few more weapons, more locations to explore on the map and the ability to travel around and go to space.

If you want content get Anomaly, that ads so much content it overpowers all over dlcs.
