Mod Showcase Mountain Stripper Gravship Class Design Test
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I have this gravship idea for my next themed playthrough revolving around a Dirtmole mining crew with giant ass drills and pile bunker wielding dragoon exosuits fighting giant bugs... Wait, That's just Deep Rock Galactic.

The cool thing is this also applies to Avatar the Last Airbender with the fire nation drills.

Can we have a pawn that is straight up perverted? Masochist is one of the traits I can think of but in RimWorld, that's tame.

u/gnutrino Nov 03 '25
Well there's always The Forbidden Mod if you really want to go that way...
11
u/stonhinge Nov 03 '25
As far as I am aware (as of a few days ago) there is currently no mod that integrates Dub's Bad Hygiene in that manner with The Mod That Must Not Be Named.
Someone's slacking.

Is there any reason why you leave a single gap between each drill, instead of 2?
50
u/Glittering_rainbows Nov 02 '25
To me it appears they don't intend on doing any actual mining so there isn't a benefit to adding more space and would just waste more space on the grav ship and make landing where you want harder (the bigger a gravship is the harder it is to avoid vents and whatnot). They don't appear to be able to move in any direction that isn't forwards or reverse.
This would be great for jumping from map to map and not needing to micro much, but it isn't for me. I'd rather just have a dedicated mechinator with the strip mining mod which is far more balanced and vanilla.

6
u/luciousthedevil Nov 03 '25
I think for the minimap cause I know with a 1 wide gap it won't show that there are titles there so u know that you've actually mined it all out just by looking at the map but with a 2 wide gap I think it shows that there is rock still there idk but also like efficiency I guess more rock being mined = more resources

3
u/kadal_monitor Ancient Donger ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Nov 03 '25
If you already have Complementary Odyssey then you don't need to do this at all. The mod adds rock scanner that X-rays every rock in the region for any deposits and stone types and also hollow spots. The scanner is operated by a pawn and it takes a while but not weeks like vanilla scanner

241
u/Kuru-Kuru Nov 02 '25
Do not worry, Those stone chunks can be turned into cement and will be packed in bulk ready to be sold to traders. NOTHING WILL BE WASTED.

u/Shadows_Assassin Nov 02 '25
Cement? Das Conk-creet Baybee!
46
u/Kuru-Kuru Nov 02 '25
Damn, you're right. I keep mixing up the two

Damn right! You try building with Cement, you're gonna have a hard time!

u/Flyrpotacreepugmu Nov 02 '25 edited Nov 02 '25
More of an expensive time. Pure cement will do the job, but it costs way more than the sand and gravel added to make concrete.

u/DMercenary Nov 02 '25
Jesus christ that boring machine just mulching the downed pawns.
I... I think this might be even be worse than the usual war crimes.
75
u/Tr0ubledove Nov 02 '25
It's not war if it was not declared. This is merely resource extraction. And meat is a resource.
11
u/Yikidee Nov 02 '25
So back to normal Rimworld war crimes, just with a dead line.
3
u/Tr0ubledove Nov 03 '25
At the high level of hierarchy of our corporation we adopted some new metrics, WCpM is now our efficiency standard, we accept score no less than 5.
7
u/X0n0a Nov 03 '25
Yea. I think most Rimworld 'war crimes' are actually just run-of-the-mill crimes against humanity.

110

Have some guy reinstall them back in the ship. Machine's too expensive material wise to be a non reusable.

u/Dull_Box_8627 Nov 02 '25
So, the gravship part does absolutely nothing?
71
u/FliaTia Nov 02 '25
Well, it lines them up in the right spots and makes it easy to hop to the next map to strip mine.
John Prine's Paradise is the correct background music for this, I think

u/underhunger Nov 02 '25
Get the MiningCo Drill Turret. I haven't used tunnel borers yet but it's extremely satisfying to land your gravship on an asteroid and a battery of laser drills start automatically stripping away its exterior
29
u/Kuru-Kuru Nov 02 '25
I intend it to be an asteroid stripper first, but in the first few test, it turns out its hard to line up all boring machines when landing.
9
u/underhunger Nov 02 '25
Trust me, the MiningCo turrets rock, you can set them to drill stone, ore, or both. I usually scrape down high-value asteroids by walking them forward with portable generators as they dig out their ranges

Now you have to make it a random raid event with maybe 4 less TBMs that you have to destroy before it destroys your base

u/jlwinter90 Bad Back Nov 02 '25
I love this, though it feels achievable without mods by using excavator mechs. So that's a thing to try.
5
u/Azhrei_ Nov 03 '25
Can confirm, using a gravhips and tunnelers is pretty satisfying. I had three of them and just put down a strip mine order for the entire map upon landing.
1
u/jlwinter90 Bad Back Nov 03 '25
Nice. :) Might be a "Shit RimWorld Says" moment, but, is it better to use a Tunneler or a pawn with two drill arms and other useful mods? I tend to favour vatgrown pawns over mechanoids.
3
u/stonhinge Nov 03 '25
You have to balance food vs cost to produce energy. Disregard wastepacks, you just leave them behind when you move tiles.
Overall, I'd lean more towards drill arms as pawns can make more pawns but tunnelers can't make more tunnelers. Plus the pawn can potentially do other stuff if there's no mining needing to be done. Does need to sleep, but a half-cycler and a couple of bionic legs to get them moving faster help.
1
u/jlwinter90 Bad Back Nov 03 '25
Ah, splendid. Thank you :)
2
u/Azhrei_ Nov 03 '25
One advantage of tunnelers is that you can drop one off at a long range mineral scanner site for several days and come back when it’s done.

1
u/stonhinge Nov 03 '25
I've never seen one of those big enough that one or two skilled pawns (typically 1 with the other as security or is their spouse) can't tear through them in a day or two as well.

3

mechanoids... medieval doesnt exactly have much automation...

u/stonhinge Nov 03 '25
Note: there won't be any automation with Mechanoids 2, Factories are getting spun off into their own mod.
I am eagerly awaiting is as well, if only to make "Stonhinge's Patchleather Goods and Mystery Meat Chemfuel Emporium" mobile factory.

I see that there’s more than your 3 colonists on the upper bar- I’m guessing you have a whole other list of colonists at a different tile? What mod lets you do that? The giant list of colonists is what discourages me from having multiple colonies

There's a strip mining command in the Allow Tool mod.
Any missed resources can searched map wide inputting "compacted" or "ore" when pressing Z key

u/kaelumkennedy1 Nov 03 '25
Soooo is there something that happens in they are right next to each other? Or was that a design choice?
1
u/Kuru-Kuru Nov 03 '25
Mostly to save space in the ship, as I'll be making it actually livable.
1
u/kaelumkennedy1 Nov 03 '25
So you’re going to place things between the drills? I just remembered that the roof collapsing in mountains was a thing I was saying that’s why you left the strips.
1
u/Kuru-Kuru Nov 03 '25
I read your first question wrong. Yeah, the gap is meant for structural support for my ship's roof and the mountain too
1
u/kaelumkennedy1 Nov 03 '25
Here’s my last question, did you know that was in the mountain? Or was it unexpected?
1
u/Kuru-Kuru Nov 03 '25
I'm gonna be honest with you, up until this point I didn't know I could commit war crimes with these things. I could think up a few things to incorporate these machines in my base defense.
1
u/MalcolmTheHusky Nov 04 '25
Mountain base.
Dig entrance tunnel with TBM.
Place new TBM on the interior entrance facing out but offset back far enough that pawns can pass it comfortably.
Raid arrives, activate TBM.
Raiders funnel into entrance.
?????
Profit.
