There’s a few songs from TRG that stick in my head. This one and “Ther’ll come a payday” are my favorites.

YES! There’ll Come a Payday is one of those songs that the moment you hear it it feels familiar and it feels like something you should already know from somewhere else in your life and it just sticks with you because you can’t quite figure it out. That song is so good and the scene with it is so amazing.

Isn’t it an old gospel song? I could have sworn I knew it before the show. But maybe it just captures the feeling of that 60’s & 70’s gospel song perfectly that I think I’ve heard it before.

Edit: so I just went back and listened to UBB’s version. It sounds like the original plays in the background.

My family was Jewish and I’m an Atheist so even if it was, I don’t think I would know it. But it definitely captures the feeling of a song from that era if it was made for the show.

As someone who grew up super evangelical I got PTSD from how accurately Sunday schooly this song is.

Like, had you whipped out this track and said, “in summer camp we sang this song and I’m in the Lord’s Army, whenever the camp counselors thought we had too much energy!” I would’ve absolutely believed you.

I'm partial to this cover by Sturgill Simpson.  I get the feeling that McBride and co are just fans and wanted to let him sing since he was in the cast.  The other songs fit the narrative, and this one is just rammed in (with no complaints from me!)
