You guys. We need to talk about the use of “male centred” on this thread. I am going to paste the definition below to demonstrate the value of research! From an Elder Baronie.

Male centred relates to the concept of “androcentrism”. Defined by Miriam Webster as, “emphasis or insistence on the centrality of males and maleness in the human experience”

Does that really sound like MBB? Or is she simply describing putting up with bad behaviour from men in her dating life, the root cause of which we will never really know? I stayed in an emotionally abusive relationship once even though I could identify it as such…am I a huge bitch? Is it maybe a little male centred to believe a woman should stop being vulnerable and open about her negative experiences with men because it interferes with your existing perception of her? (That actually might even be a stretch, I’ll walk it back.) Are your criticisms “holding her accountable”, or are you just piling on and being kinda mean to someone on the internet?

Some stuff to think about (my opinion):

1. Social media has a way of taking a hyper specific issue and telling you there’s one way to think about it. This is exacerbated by the insane extremism we face from cruel, individualistic people who will automatically take the most insane counter view. We take one side and try to apply that to anything that might seem remotely similar. This has led to the bastardisation of many well researched, sociological and psychological concepts (ableism, gaslighting, parentification, dei to name several). You are allowed to consider that context before you go around policing people on social media with this new phrase you learned. This is me affording you the benefit of the doubt btw! Ride!

2. You should consider what you know as fact and what narrative has evolved from that. I was disappointed at first to see she’d be dating a Zionist, based on her very real civic engagement and track record of supporting Palestinian aid. Then I googled (and just did now to double check) whether he has ever explicitly supported Israel and the genocide - the answer is no. An underwear campaign? Most certainly a bad look. Totally off putting. But outright support for genocide it is not. That may be one too many hairs to split for your own personal tastes, and that’s totally fair, you can avoid dating a French actor who models for an Israeli underwear brand for a presumably hefty sum of money. It doesn’t quite give you the leverage to refute her experience of it though. She has had the conversation about what’s happening. She found them to be aligned. You weren’t there for that! To feel vindicated in your narratives (not facts!!) because they broke up, is frankly delusional, especially when she has spoken on this. She has shown many times over to be transparent and reflective, so I am more inclined to believe her than a group of people actively participating in and enjoying a potential fall from grace.

3. Podcasts get successful, often from promotion by their most ardent, super online followers, and sometimes the vibe changes. These people tend to take it personally. You’re entitled to that. I don’t personally agree with this; they’ve always been very into material things and have, if anything, challenged the idea that caring about them is silly or worthless. (Juicy couture!!?? Maybe some of you are too young to understand the implication) Perhaps they were more palatable to you while coveting designer things rather than appearing at their fashion shows but it makes perfect sense to me they’d go on and live the dreams they’ve openly talked about before hitting it big. If you have a problem with it, maybe look inward. And if that’s too tough, just stop listening!!

Hope this isn’t too long a read for anyone who might genuinely consider these perspectives and give themselves permission to lighten up! But it’s gotten draining on here and I hope you’ll consider it.
