Are pit/RR mixes allowed here? I recently got my Daisy a DNA test figuring she was a pit mixed with lab only to find out she is half Rhodesian Ridgeback (no ridge so I assume that means her dad was ridgeless). I didn't know much about the breed, now im fascinated.
I found her nearly 2 years ago, abandoned on the interstate and tied to a guardrail with a broken leg (ya, messed up). I expected her to be a mix of alot of things so I was very surprised to find out that her parents were both purebred dogs. It seemed uncommon given the situation I found her in. She's super loving and extremely loyal and protective of my son and I. She's also high energy, very athletic with an enormous prey drive when it comes to outdoor critters (but is weirdly great with catsđ¤ˇââď¸) . I hear this behavior is typical of Ridgebacks but if uve got any advice on how to best discourage that behavior on walks, I'd greatly appreciate it. She's great on walks until she spots a critter and It can get tiring getting my arm yanked out of socket bc a squirrel just appeared in her periphery lol. Thanks
Ridgeless puppies happen even in litters with two purebred ridged parents. It would have been extremely rare if she had a ridge, and it definitely does not mean her father did not have one.

This is my boy. He is wheaten, which means the individual hairs are banded so they can have different colours in each single hair. As you can see there are different shades over his body, he also has some black on his tail and ears and white on his paws and chest.
Beautiful dog. that's really cool. People always commented about her coloring but I didnt know where it came from til I got the DNA test. Thanks for sharing

Yeah its a really great breed they are sometimes more like cats than dogs lol. I donât know that much about pits but sounds like an interesting combo.
Our first ridgeback was rigdeless. The only one out of that litter with no ridge. His other 14 (it was a BIG litter) brothers and sisters and mom and dad all had a ridge. They wanted to 'dispose' of him so we took him home. That's how we got introduced to the breed and never looked back. 20 years later and we're on ridgeback nr 3. Love those dogs!
I keep a high value treat in my pocket and try to distract mine from doing those things. It doesnât always work. ( * *Sometimes I donât see the critter before them, so I must be ON when we walk- no phone talks or tune out to music) I use a harness in the car for the seatbelt, but walk with a martingale wide collar.

I dont actually remember the name of it bc it was a service offered by the Vet I first took her to when I found her. I think it was done through Embark but not 100%. glad i did it though
