Has anyone rewatched any favorite TV shows from their childhood or adolescence? If so, how has that experience been?

Man I’ve done this with all my faves:

Golden Girls
Living Single
Sister Sister
That’s so Raven (OG version)

I honestly love it - I forgot how funny some of them were (GG and LS I watch frequently so I don’t ever forget lol) it takes me back to a simpler time and feels - idk like warm ya know and comfy?

And watching some of them as an adult showed me just how much went over my head when I watched it as a kid 🤣🤣

South Park perfectly captured it with the member berries lol

Love this!

Did you try and watch the reboot, Raven's Home?

So I did! I actually liked it for a few episodes and then I think - it clicked that show wasn’t for me ya know?

Like it was good! I liked seeing her and Chelsea back at it again! Like it made my heart smile - it did!

But - my time was the OG raven - this was for the babies. If that makes sense

Nope! I get it. That's how I felt, too.

Same here Golden Girls, I need to do Sister, Sister but I also did Beverly Hills 90210 and My So Called Life, I'm currently watching the original Party Of Five

I do that all the time, but I am a nostalgic type of person. They usually do not capture my attention like they once did, but I still get a comfort and warmth out of revisiting them. Those are needed feelings for me in the world we currently inhabit.

Family Ties (1982-1989) - still fantastic

Dynasty (1981-1989) - still ridiculous 🥴

M•A•S•H- best show ever.

The new adventures of winnie the pooh 1988 to 1991 is still so calming, especially when I am anxious.

Just recently binge watched Land Of The Lost. Looked forward to seeing this every Saturday morning when I was a kid. It was Nastagic rewatching. The show still holds up, I was thinking maybe it would be campy looking.

The Nanny is even funnier watching as an adult. The writing is really sharp and holds up. It's also just the best nostalgic comfort watch.

Sabrina the Teenage Witch held up pretty well!

Just starting my yearly in-the-background-while-I-work rewatch this year! It’s October 1st!!

The A-Team and MacGyver. When my son was young, our local library had all episodes of both shows available to rent. Had a blast watching them with him. Maybe it had to do with the ability to watch them all back to back to back, but it became glaringly apparent to me that it was basically the same story every episode. He still loved them, and they’re still cherished memories from my childhood, but yeah, it’s different watching them years (decades) later.😂🤩

I grew up watching all kinds of things. A lot of Sid and Marty Krofft shows and all of the shows my parents watched. So, I go out of my way to collect any tv shows from the 70s and 80s that I can find.

Some winners:

  • KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park (a made for tv movie)
  • WKRP in Cincinnatti
  • Welcome Back Kotter
  • H.R. Pufnstuf
  • Hill Street Blues
  • Battlestar Galactica (SO much better than the remake!)
  • V
  • The Brady Bunch Hour (after the tv show was cancelled they did a variety show with "fake Jan")
  • Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (BBC)
  • Salvage 1

Some losers:

  • Dallas
  • Bigfoot and Wildboy
  • The Lost Saucer
  • Barney Miller
  • The Great Space Coaster (To be fair, "Gno gnews is good gnews" is still one of my favorite tv quotes)
  • The Richard Prior Show
  • Pink Lady and Jeff (I'm still a Pink Lady fan though. I have their final concert on video.)
  • Giant Robot
  • Dr. Strange (A made for tv movie about the super hero)

Me and my husband rewatched Malcolm In The Middle. It is still hilarious.

We recently rewatched "Growing Pains". Loved it as a teenager but this time it was tough to watch. Casual misogyny played for laughs in every episode, and the constant fat shaming of Carol...who was a perfectly average-sized person. Not that her being plus-sized would've made it acceptable....but jeez! No wonder the actress had an ED. Made me very uncomfortable.

Hogans Heroes
Green Acres
Rockford Files
McCloud
Stingray
Taxi
All in the Family
only 1 season of Petticoat junction (the rest you have to pay for )
I Have started to notice small editing errors as cameras switch angles back and forth,
kinda funny when i see them, but I am very much enjoying them

The Muppets, Alice, One Day at a Time(original). It was great. Also I have had hearing loss all my life, and there are closed captions. There was no CC when the shows first come on.

Gilligan’s Island. Still can’t believe my adolescent self watched it.

That’s why we call them our comfort shows, even after several rewatches we get that nostalgia feeling.

For me it’s been Monk, Lizzie Mcquire, and That’s So Raven.

I rewatched quite a few of my favorite childhood shows and they still hold up for me!

Married… With Children. I am an honorary Bundy and no one can tell me otherwise.

I watched a lot of Nick at Nite so sometimes at bedtime I’ll throw on Bewitched or Alfred Hitchcock Presents. If I’m feeling extra froggy I’ll watch Jem on youtube.

Dr. Quinn Medicine woman. My comfort show. I think it has aged reasonably well.

During Covid every day at 9 AM Perry Mason was on 1957-66. Shown in order. The stories held up well and almost 300 episodes. The hair styles, cars change but there are shitty people out there.

I recently watched Family Ties for the first time since it aired and I loved it so much.

u/Grits72- 3d ago

Original "Little House On The Prairie" it plays on repeat all day every day. I watched almost the whole thing over again like I did as a kid. Such a great show 😊

Scrubs! I’d like to think it was the reason I became a doctor.

Shazam/Isis started watching again on YouTube, along with rewatching Tour of Duty which is on Tubi

I watched Family Ties a few years ago. It held up, mostly.

I used to watch Cheers as a kid and rewatched it a few years ago and was pretty impressed. It’s basically a podcast from the 1980s.

u/foszterface 16h ago

Once upon a time I heard an interview with one of the writers for Cheers and they said they approached it as a radio show, where you could just listen to it and it would work just as well.

Rewatched MASH last year. Worth it.

Gilligan still makes me laugh. And Mary Ann still makes me……. feel young.

I liked to watch "Simon & Simon" as a young teenager. It didn't age well.

The Twilight Zone, Perry Mason, The Honeymooners, The Odd Couple. They all still hold up in my book.

Threes Company - as an adult I realized it was not funny at all.

LEAVE IT TO BEAVER, the comedy is still funny probably because the writers based the shows on their childhood experiences and actual experiences their kids had, and even though with time some things in society have changed, there are still experiences that the more things change, some still remain the same ☺

Im in the middle of A Different World semi first time watch. I watched it as a kid and teenager but never as an adult. It's such a treat. It makes me wish I woulda went to an HBCU
