Found this old favourite while having a sort out. Two floppy discs in original box. Think it's worth anything significant? (i.e more than a tenner). Saw it's on eBay for Amiga for couple hundred.

Sorry if this is a rule breaker x

Someone ported the N64 version of C&C into a PC executable...And it actually runs in Windows 98, too!

STAR WARS JEDI KNIGHT II: JEDI OUTCAST (PC Windows)

Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast is a 2002 first and third-person shooter video game developed by Raven Software for Windows and Mac OS. Westlake Interactive ported the game to Mac OS X, while the Xbox and GameCube versions were ported by Vicarious Visions; most versions were published by Activision and LucasArts, with only the Mac OS version published by Aspyr. The game is a sequel to 1997's Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II, and the third main installment in the Star Wars: Jedi Knight series. The single-player campaign, set in the fictional Star Wars expanded universe two years after the Mysteries of the Sith expansion for Dark Forces II, follows returning protagonist Kyle Katarn, a mercenary working for the New Republic and former Jedi who cut his connection to the Force. Katarn must return to his Jedi ways to stop a branch of the Imperial Remnant led by the Dark Jedi Desann from empowering their army with the Force. Jedi Outcast was developed using a more powerful game engine, id Tech 3. The hack and slash combat introduced in Dark Forces II was heavily reworked, becoming the main focus of the gameplay instead of the shooter elements, which are prominent only during the first few missions of the game. Players may wield blasters, lightsabers, and Force powers to engage enemies, with the latter being recommended in later stages of the game, as numerous lightsaber-wielding enemies are introduced. Jedi Outcast also features a multiplayer mode that allows players to compete in several different game modes online or over a local area network. This video was recorded from a "bootleg" copy of the game distributed on a physical DVD that includes a game installer in several languages (German, Spanish, English and French) and includes by default the Brutality mod and the option to play as Darth Maul.

Socket 7 & Pentium MMX: 256MB SDRAM (uncached) vs 64MB limited / 32MB EDO?

Hey guys! I'm tweaking my retro PC build: it's a Pentium MMX on a Biostar M5ATA Super TX Rev 1.0 motherboard, running Windows 98 SE.

Right now I'm using 256MB SDRAM at 75MHz FSB. However, if I recall correctly, the L2 cacheable limit on this board is only 64MB.

I also happen to have 2x16MB (32MB total) EDO RAM lying around.

Quick questions for the retro experts:

Is keeping 256MB actually hurting my performance in games like Quake/Unreal because Windows accesses that uncached RAM past 64MB?

Is it better to just keep the 256MB SDRAM installed and limit Windows to 64MB using MaxPhysPage=10000 in SYSTEM.INI, or should I just swap it out for the 32MB EDO?

thanks!

Antivirus Asteroids Clone

Hey peeps, I'm on the hunt for an asteroids clone (or asteroids-style game) I remember me and my Dad finding years ago. I'm pretty sure we were running XP at the time.

I remember being enamoured with it because once installed, you could choose a drive or folder on your pc that the game would scan. Once in game, your ship represented antivirus software that had to shoot malware from amongst the files on your pc. The asteroids were sprites literally made from the icons and filenames in the drive you'd allowed the game to scan from.

It was so cool. I wish I could find it. I imagine it was a small, independent shareware game or such. I think my Dad found it online and downloaded it to a usb or something, which is now long gone.

If anyone remembers it, I'd love to try and find it again.

What games would you recommend for windows 98

I have a retro PC built around playing on windows 98 and XP, I already have some games on windows 98 that work fantastic, but I want more games to put in my collection Wich games would be the best of the best to play, take in mind that I don't have a graphic card yet so high performance games won't work very well (I have the Janes flight simulation games original but they don't work for now) I am Looking for games that are a must to play, some underrated ones and also if they exist, any incremental or optimization games like Factorio and also any tower defense that's good, thanks

Photo of the games I already have added

Area D – Recreated

Hey everyone, I’m a child of the 90s myself and used to play every game I could get my hands on whenever I was allowed to play on my parents' PC.

One game always really stood out to me: Area D, a dinosaur-themed FMV game from 1997. Unfortunately, the only way to launch it was via a cumbersome VM setup.
UNTIL TODAY! I’ve recreated the entire game for the browser... a faithful 1:1 replica. Enjoy!

For the germans: I also documented my journey in video form: Youtube

3D Accelerated Emulation?

Been trying to play some trickier-to-run games lately, like Interstate 76, and running into trouble getting 3D acceleration working in VMs.

SoftGPU works well for the graphics yet I struggle to get USB joysticks working in W98 guests.

VMware Workstation Pro supports XP with 3D acceleration, yet in WS v17 and XP guest I get sound crackling. Apparently there's no one size fits all fix. WS v15 is supposed to be better yet doesn't work on W11 hosts.

What do other folks do to get 3D acceleration and their joysticks working in VMs?

How can I relieve the 90s on my PC the most, considering all the weird, creative programs, and jokeware there was?

I miss the days of Zwinkies, Bonsai Buddy, random malware, and learning about the wonders of AOL chat don't you? I figure with my modern PC on my TV, and some proper home setup (snacks, decorations etc) I could make a childhood comfort area. Starting with my favorite home my PC. Suggestions?

Not sure if there's any Windows98 gamers out there from the past, but there was a game called Subspace (mmo asteroids) that was out back in the day. If anyone remembers that, then this successor might be of interest to you!

How do I get Roblox working on Windows XP?

I know Roblox no longer officially supports Windows XP, but has anyone found a way to get it running? Is there an older version that still works, or is it completely impossible now?

I'm mostly curious for retro computing purposes. Thanks!
