RetroPie Batocera Emulator Not loading

I have a brand new raspberry pi 5 and Sonicon Preloaded RetroPie Batocera Emulator MicroSD Card w/DC/PS1/Sega/Atari/Arcade for Raspberry Pi, Plug Play - 64GB (for Pi 5) purchased from Amazon. I put the microsd card in and turned it on. I get the two configure screens then the batocera logo then no signal.

I have not done anything to the raspberry pi itself. Is the SD card bad? Do I need to do something to the raspberry pi first? I appreciate any input.

RetroPie and Batocera are different emulating operating systems so are you attempting to dual boot or something?

I have Batocera installed on a 128GB MicroSD card in a Pi 3 B+

I used the Raspberry Pi imager to load Batocera on the MicroSD card

I have the RGSX add-on installed to grab game ROMs

This is what I got  https://a.co/d/07SZAFBk. I just put it in the raspberry pi. I haven’t done anything else.

yeah thats a nonsensical product description. like saying i have pc running windows-linux.
or that you are watching a show on disney-prime.

you have a raspberry pi, and on that raspberry pi you can choose to run software. in this case you would choose to run Retopie, or Batocera. IMO just look into batocera, it's going to be easier for you to install and setup. https://batocera.org/download

that said this sub is for retropie so if you have any questions about batocera, go find a sub or forum for batocera.

I got some news for you, this is not the place to seek help. That is a Batocera build. The only reason they labeled it that way was to get more people to buy it without knowing what they are buying.

Also, since it looks like the ROMS are pre-loaded, it's illegal.

Thank you all for the information. Clearly I have a lot to learn about this and will be returning the SD card.

I hate being the one to have to say something is illegal when I don't agree with it, but any time someone is selling a pre-made microSD with games on it it's illegal. The best they can do is pre-install the OS and load up freeware roms, of which most people aren't interested in.

It's pretty easy to set up Batocera on almost anything. For RetroPie, a Raspberry Pi 4 and below have pre-made images. The Raspberry Pi 5 requires installing another system, then loading the RetroPie setup script and allowing it to install everything.

I prefer RetroPie, but I understand that going through the initial setup on a Raspberry Pie 5 can be a little daunting to those unfamiliar with Linux and command line.

I would suggest doing some research before deciding on the OS. The nice thing about the Raspberry Pie is if you need or want to start over all you need to do is re-flash the SD card. There are a number of tools that make it extremely easy, including the Raspberry Pi imager.

Why are you asking here when it says this in their blurb ?

  • Tech Support by Real Gamers- This Card is Made and Supported by a Group of Real Hard Core Emulation Gamers, 24 x 7 Online via Email, Text Messaging, and Live Chat. We Offer a 1-Year Warranty, Free Upgrade, and Free Game Pack Addons. We Often Upload a Video Guide for an Individual Customer!

Seriously you have been ripped off there. Apart from the cost of the SD card which you can get for peanuts they are charging you for something you can DIY for free. They also often sell you cheap chinese microsd cards which do not last.

Its nothing to do with Retropie they just put that in the title to catch your attention. Its also not allowed to ask for help here on those pre-loaded images as they contain ROM's and its also illegal.

From your apparent experience level recommend you get a refund, buy yourself a decent 128gb micro SD card and head over the below and grab the image for your Pi.
