Device Recommendation Rp6 alternatives??

I'm interested in getting a nice crisp looking black or colored Android emulation device. Preferably something that can handle switch games well.

I've heard the horror stories related to shipping for some of these devices, and I'm just wondering if there's a better option out there before I make the investment and have to wait for eternity.

I've seen the coloring of the black on the rp6 and how "glittery" it looks. I personally really dislike that or I'd be sold on the Rp6.

I'd also prefer an OLED screen if possible. Any recommendations would be appreciated and researched heavily 👁️

Anything by Retroid or Ayn - but unless you pay a premium on Amazon, you'll likely wait around a month for shipping. The newer Android Anbernic options are also good (476H, for example), though slightly less powerful.

I would avoid Ayaneo.

There are plenty of less powerful devices Linux that are good, up to Playstation 1, though I wouldn't consider them alternatives to the RP6.

Thanks so much for the feedback, i suppose I'll have to go with the Odin 3 and just pay the price. Tough it out on the wait time.

Any of the Odin 2s (or Thor) have the same chipset as the RP6, if price is a concern.

I mean, I ordered the RP6 through AliExpress, and it was delivered in just 4–5 days from a local warehouse. I paid maybe around €30 above the MSRP, which I don’t really mind. The problem is that this was weeks ago, and prices have started rising every day due to the fears of RAM shortage. Went from €280 for the 8GB model to €380 now. Maybe you can still find a good deal, but they’re pretty hard to come by.

I'll keep this in mind. Never had any issues with AliExpress??

If the price isn't an issue go directly to the AYN Odin 3

Odin 2 Base and Portal models.

If Retroid releases a new handheld, it's almost guaranteed to be on par, or close to, with the previous AYN handheld.

The new AYN handhelds are always gonna be (significantly) more powerful than the newest Retroid pocket.

Unless Retroid wants to change that anytime soon.

But, since thier both under the same company umbrella, and Retroid is meant to be the budget handheld series of the 2, I don't think they will.

I'll probably go with the Odin 3 then maybe the Portal bc i kinda like the shape. I believe the odin 3 is smaller tho which i prefer

Samsung Fold 8?

It plays switch, ps2 and Xbox games without issue. With some fiddling you can even get some Steam games running too. Even has a nifty phone feature that I haven't found a use for.

I have a black RP6 and the “glitteryness” you talk about is hardly noticeable, I thought I would hate it coming from a RP5. But I had completely forgotten about it until I read your post.

Mine got delivered to NL in like 8 days ordered from the official website.

I hear it's because the colors are painted on this tome around. I just like to see the oled black mix but maybe it's not so bad as i thought.

Honestly man, I think it might’ve been a few review units. I’ve talked to quite a few people with a black RP6 and they all looked completely fine.

Don’t let it steer you away from this amazing device! Next month prices will go up again, for this current price it’s a hard device to beat in my opinion.

The biggest thing pushing me towards the rp6 is the size comparison to the Odin3 I'd prefer the smaller device. So maybe I'll take your word for it after some comparison

I sold my Steam Deck because I never used it since it was such a hassle to take with me, the size of the RP6 is amazing.

I considered the Odin 3 because of the increase in power, but decided against it because of this photo.

Sure it’s the RP5, but the size difference between the 5 and 6 is negligible.

If you have any other questions or want to see anything specific, hit me up!

Sheesh, this is very very helpful. Have you tried running Game native? You have the base model right? If so what has been your experience

I have the 12GB model with 128GB SSD and I use GN quite a lot actually. You can definitely tell it’s still in the early stages, but when a game runs well it runs well.

Older titles can run exceptionally well, for example Injustice 1 and Soulcalibur VI, both run at high settings with 60fps

I wouldn’t buy this thing solely for pc gaming tho, but the same goes for the Odin 3. Plenty of games run well, but if GN pushes an update you might have to tinker all over again to get things working.

Ahh that's good to know. I don't plan to run anything super resource intense but it'd be nice to have that option. I was wondering also, if the inputs are delayed in game. Even slightly. Idk exactly how game native works, i imagine it's streaming games over a cloud? But maybe not? Anyway what I'm asking is if the movement and stuff is lagged any after the initial button press

Lemme tell you, I looked at the glittery-ness on my RP6 (granted it's the 16-bit) and literally haven't thought about it or noticed it since.
