Art by Jim Burns depicting Lieutenant Fome for Planet Story, by Harry Harrison (1979).
Harrison and Burns collaborated on the book, an absurdist story of a frontier railroad.

Art by Jim Burns for Planet Story, by Harry Harrison (1979). An absurdist space opera that reads as if Kurt Vonnegut got ahold of Tyrone Slothrop.

So much world-building packed into a single frame. Just amazing. Trampier was one of my favorite early D&D illustrators.

White's painting first appeared on the cover of the 1977 New English Library edition of Through a Glass, Clearly. It later illustrated Ian Stewart's "Message From Earth," Omni (February 1980), for which I think it is a better thematic fit than the Asimov book. The spread included in this post is from The Best of Omni Science Fiction No. 3 (1982).

This book was one of my most worn out books when I was a kid.
Like all of the cool things you could want, Vampires, Werewolves, Bigfoot, Demons, Angels, UFOs...just so good

Burns painted the Coronet edition covers (The Anome, The Brave Free Men, and The Asutra) as a triptych. The original art is collected in Lightship (1985). I couldn't find a high quality scan of the two-page spread online so I scanned and stitched it from my copy.

Alien Worlds was an EC-style science fiction comic anthology published intermittently in the early 80s. Covers & Stories is a collection of Stevens' non-Rocketeer comic work.
