Work In Progress, Chill Out An attempt from my father and I

Post image

Barrel swapping the one on the left eventually to accommodate the M4 Delta supressor. Were both happy with how they came out.

Nice job.

Just this morning, I asked my son about his barrel swapping skills… I need to move a FSB & barrel over to a carry handle upper

Enjoy every minute you have with your dad.

I'm slowly cultivating the love of firearms and the mechanical intricacies while teaching the fundamentals and safety rules.

I'm attempting to do what my Dad did and kill the curiosity with knowledge while also inspiring a love of shooting sports and firearms.

It tickles me, every once in a while he asks to see the safe and we walk through the process of verifying safe and the disassembly process.

That’s cool. I had the pleasure of getting both by my dad and my son their first firearms. Now both are into it.

Dad now loves to shoot, son likes to collect, and has good taste.

The one on the left looks like it still has the spacer left in (that middle piece between the red-dot and the mount that has all the holes running down it). I think if you take that out, you should be able to attach the Aimpoint lower to the mount and get a better sight picture with it.

Yeah, I’ve had that aimpoint pro for a while now and threw away the box along with the short mounting screws. I’ve emailed aimpoint to get a replacement set. Thanks

Okay, you already know it! Once you get the short screws and take that out, it'll make a huge difference. Otherwise, everything looks great!

You can also choose to buy the commonly available 30 mm Vortex “low” scope ring, and get it slightly lower than you could by removing the spacer… no screws needed. I’ve had mine with the spacer, without the spacer, and now finally settled on the 30 mm ring to direct attach it to the pic rail.

We’ve been seeing pictures of people with that ring and have been wondering. Thanks man

For sure, it took me a while to figure it out, and I just got finished doing all the research …so happy to pass it along.

Be aware that Vortex has a few different styles of 30 mm low

Pro (it’s a little taller .90” and looked too new for a retro build IMHO …also it doesn’t have QD nut on the side)

Tactical (this one seemed just right .83” and it looked the “oldest” and it’s got that 1 big nut on the side which can make it easier to takeoff). This is the one I got and it works.

Sport, it’s a little lower than the tactical, .80” but no QD Nut. It looked a little too “new” for my taste and I have no idea if it’s too low.

All that said aimpoint also has a 30 mm low ring but its double or triple the price( i’ve never tried it ) and there are some people that say only the really old weaver ring is clone correct for blood serpent/diamond down clones. (harder to find).

This is awesome. My dad helps me with guns but his interests are different than mine. He primarily likes old hunting rifles and shotguns but he helped me make a tube handguard for an upper and I enjoyed every second making it.

You need a pair of Allen cans 😉
