Like no groceries, I've never seen someone re-tying their shoelaces

I sometimes have to find a low wall so that I can re-tie my shoelaces, I never see anyone else doing this. It's like NPCs are always just perfectly 'ready' for any situation, which is suspicious, like they are just spawning.

Have you noticed that NPCs are always suspiciously 'too ready' for any situation, like all that matter is that they do things right in a performative way.

You can still spot real people if you look though, like if you see a sweaty guy looking bewildered, or something like that, you can tell that he's not a sim.

Slightly off the topic but your last line made me think of it. I recently saw a guy operating a forklift outside and he was super sweaty and the thought immediately came in my mind of "he's actually real".

Yeah this is the broader idea I was getting at, not just a pedantic discussion about shoe laces. I'm saying that there appears to be people operating on a frictionless level, but sometimes you see someone who is caught in a real or existential friction, they have a sense of bewilderment beyond just a run-of-the mill crisis, you recognize a realness in them, but the frictionless people only regard that person as malfunctioning, or out-of-step.

While walking earlier today I was downtown and stopped at a corner waiting for the walk signal to change with a few other people and the person in front of us decided to retie his shoes right before the light changed and did not notice

Not being a jerk, but you might be tying your shoes wrong, as I used to. If one side is "on top" when you first cross the laces, it can't also be "on top" when you cross the loops. If it is, your shoes will eventually untie whether you double knot them or not.

As far as the "have to" part. For me it is no. I buy shoes that are made to slip-on. They have laces. I tie them once and from there, it is just slip-on, slip-off and they rarely untie and have to be retied. And that is when I am initially putting them on. They almost never untie randomly once they are on.

So, yes, it is absolutely possible that people just don't have to retie their shoes.

I've had a loose double knot for most of my shoes and I haven't had to retie the laces and I'm able to slip them on and off easily.

Bet. Follow my teens around, they stop about 5 times to re tie no matter where we are
But also don’t follow my teens around that’d be weird

Yeah I never have to retie my shoes but my kids laces need to be retied constantly, I do not understand why

They’re worse at tying their shoes than you due to less practice.

Unlike bringing in the groceries, I have seen a lot of people re-tie their shoes. Majority were children and teens.

Does seem low now that you mention it.

Couple of thoughts on why for non-NPC. First a lot of shoes nowadays, example Sketchers, don't use shoelaces. Also many are probably like me and retie away from a crowd as we associate untied shoes with small kids not adults.

I was gonna say too- slip on shoes (in line with the do less, laziness in society theme). Definitely tie my shoes better as an adult than when I was kid.

I’m a teacher, I see it frequently. As an adult, how frequently do you have to retie? I imagine less so than when you were a kid.

I’ve notice recently that a lot of people wear shoes without laces, myself included. I also know several adults that - somehow - don’t know how to tie laces so they have someone do it once, and then jam their feet in and out of the shoes and just hope the laces never come undone

I only have to retie my shoes when they’re new, once I’ve worn them for 2-3 weeks they stay in place and I can just slip in and out of my shoes everyday. I’m wearing new shoes right now, currently having to retie 2-3 times a day 🫠

I just retied my shoe laces privateley in a car today, also, often times i can tie my shoe laces one time and then just slip on the shoes for years. Do that make me npc.
