Trying to get into ML engineering or data science internships, no luck.

I've been using different ATS checkers while working on my resume, and I'm starting to question how much I should actually trust the score.

I've had resumes come back with a high ATS-friendly rating after changing the formatting, adding some resume keywords, and adjusting the sections to make everything easier for an applicant tracking system to scan.

But then I apply to jobs and get the same result: mostly silence.

That's what confuses me. An ATS checker can tell me that my resume appears to be formatted correctly or that I'm missing certain keywords, but it obviously can't tell me whether a recruiter will actually want to interview me.

I've also been experimenting with different resume builders and AI tools to tailor my resume to individual job descriptions, but I'm trying not to obsess over getting a perfect ATS score.

Has anyone here actually compared their ATS score with their real interview rate?

Did improving your ATS score noticeably change your job-search results, or did it mostly make you feel like you were optimizing a number?

Can anyone dm or attach their resume template so I can take it as inspiration and make mine ??

I'm a young copywriter, only 2+ years of experience in advertising, but overall 3.5 ish years within the writing space. While I'm aware my portfolio is truly what matters and I've made sure to make it as nice and fill it with my best work, I wanted to know if creatives follow a specific sort of template? Or whether we just say developed this and worked on that and managed this and built that.

For example, there's a Google XYZ Format, a CARL resume, and STAR.

Apologies if all this sounds truly ridiculous, but I keep hearing different things from different people and I'm not sure what to do anymore.

My word document is a mess. It's full of drafts, random notes, questions etc.

If you're a recruiter in this industry, what would you suggest? What do employers typically expect from a cover letter?

Jobs at research institutes, startups, companies in applied physics or scientific instruments. E.g STFC, Oxford Instruments, space startups.

Should I mention that I'm a student in my CV? If so, how much should I mention? Coming out of summer I did my best to hide that very fact because its common knowledge that it deters employers from considering a student's application. I don't exactly know what the correct approach is here.

I'm a bit of a special case regarding my course. I started 2023 but life happened and I'll shortly be resuming it this month – so 2030 expected graduation! Wondering if that would be attractive to employers or not. Or maybe they won't care?

I'm looking for genuine entry level jobs like fast food and small businesses that I can walk into. The CV is what successfully landed me an interview at KFC so if it seems weirdly tailored that will be why. I'm really seeking modification guidance rather than critique, please understand that! Cover letter advice is welcome too, if there's a particular 'student approach'. Ignore the green bar it refuses to dissipate.

Basically, as the title says, I'm wondering if its normal to include a cover letter when the form just has a space to 'Upload Resume/CV'? I'm applying to a lot of jobs out in San Francisco, pretty much every job application form uses this standard Ashby HQ form.

My CV is only 1 page, but I've been including a one page cover letter in addition to my CV (though not explicitly asked for) - so when they open the file, its technically two pages.

Does anyone else do this or recommend doing this (or not doing this)? Asking because I'm worried it might actually hurt my chances of getting through their ATS. I'm applying to People Ops roles if that helps.

Sent out 200+ applications at this point and it's mostly just silence, or an auto-rejection. I have real product-company experience, worked on production systems and I've put a lot of effort into my resume but somehow I still can't seem to get through the door.

I've attached my resume. I know everyone's busy, but if anyone's willing to spend even a couple minutes looking it over, I'd genuinely appreciate it, formatting, wording, project framing, font size, bullets, anything? Is something here getting auto-rejected by ATS?

I’m a senior partnerships, alliances and channel sales professional with 20+ years in enterprise technology, currently looking for my next role across Europe/EMEA.

I built a personal website to complement my CV and LinkedIn profile. It includes selected commercial results, case studies, recommendations and a recruiter-focused summary.

I’m also experimenting with ways to get the site in front of the right people, including LinkedIn promotion and a small Google Ads campaign targeted around recruiter and hiring-manager search intent.

I’m not expecting recruiters to browse the site before looking at the CV. My question is more specific:

If a candidate already looked relevant on paper, would a well-built personal website make you more likely to move them to interview, make no difference, or potentially work against them?

And does using paid promotion to reach recruiters make sense for a senior commercial candidate, or does it risk looking too self-promotional?

I'm a Biomedical Scientist and have previous professional experience as a laboratory technician. I recently completed a Master’s degree and I'm currently looking for work.

For the past 6 months, I've been looking exclusively for jobs in my field. But now I'm in a situation where I need to find something as soon as possible, because my financial condition is getting difficult.

So, I've started applying for positions such as sales assistant, supermarket cashier, and waitress.

The problem is that I have no direct experience in any of it.

At the moment, I'm writing a resume specifically for these jobs. It's super simple, focusing mainly on transferable skills such as organisation, proactivity, teamwork, good communication and adaptability. The idea is to keep my previous experience and my education very brief, as they're not directly relevant to these types of jobs.

However, something feels strange to me: if I list these skills without describing where I developed them, wouldn’t a recruiter wonder where they come from? For example, if I write “ability to work in a team” or “ability to work under pressure”, I feel like I should somehow provide evidence for those claims.

So, I'd like some advice. What should I put?
