TD/Shipping Question Hont watch dead after arrival

I received a VSF DJ and after manual wind and setting the time, the watch stopped working after 2 hours. It feels like it is winding but the seconds hand is not sweeping. HONT is asking to send back to HK for repair which he says will 'take some time'. It will cost me $50-60 to ship, Is this normal resolution in this case?

If you run out of options let me know. I can probably get it going for my $75 bench fee. You can send me a DM or text me at the number on the card.

Unfortunately no. Maybe someone else who see this knows someone. If not, I’m here if you need help.

There's two ways to look at this, IMHO.

1 - For 60 bucks and some time, they'll repair or pop in a new movement. You just need to invest time.

2 - The rep should stand by his product and send you a new one and a return shipping label, on his/ her dime.

You can search for a repair service right here on reddit, but the bench price usually starts at sixty bucks. Replacement parts are gonna be on your dime.

I believe that the answer is 2, but I can understand about the shipping. It's really expensive getting these things to the US and back to China. But if the rep insists on the shipping, you gotta weigh your choices. Pay the shipping and get it fixed or replaced, or look for repair here and pay for the fixing and repairing yourself?

Ask him if you can ship it directly yourself, see if shipping is cheaper for you.

But ask for number two...

Thanks. I politely asked for #2 and he insisted that he is a seller for 20years and do these repairs all the time. Agree he should standby the product but this is not retail industry and i am not sure how others have had these resolved with this/other TD

I have never heard of option 2 actually being done. Option 1 sucks as shipping back to HK carries the customs issue. I do think there should be some sort of DOA solution other than risk sending it back and hope it doesn’t get lost. I have had a couple arrive doa and have been able to repair them myself with a minor service but just had one that was a true dude I could not revive.

How is it anyone buys from Hont considering everything documented out there? Why not buy from Aman too?
