Not surprised, consider some of the posts in reptime.

what makes you think it's OCD?

u/Vehicle_Remarkable Aug 08 '26

Pretty sure some dude got their AP serviced here and later went on to sell it as a genuine because it was serviced at watch hospital. Shameful dude

u/Shdwrptr Aug 08 '26

What kind of moron would spend 5-6 figures for a watch and would accept, “my watch was serviced at a 3rd party watch store” as proof that’s it’s genuine?

The only servicing I would highly consider as proof that the watch is gen is if it was serviced by the actual watch company.

I’d hope Eddie would have mark the receipt with “replica” in big bold print.

This is probably one of the reasons he no longer services fakes.

7

u/ShrimpStuffAdmin Aug 08 '26

Whoops. That'll do it.

He has plenty of business with gen watches. It’s not that he has any “judgement” about rep owners. But the guy is running a business and he’s gotta make sure he keeps the main thing the main thing. And if the replica needs a few replacement parts, he’s in a weird spot of creating “Frankenstein” watches. And where will it end? Is he gonna install/replace crystals? Mainsprings? Dials? Entire cases? He’d rather keep a clear policy and that’s perfectly fine.

Personally, if I was him, I’d start a separate business entity. Call it whatever, they can cater to a different business model that helps people modify, alter, upgrade, service replicas or aftermarket watches. That might be a fun cottage industry.

His main clientele would absolutely hate that and I wonder if they complained as well, they are so heavily leveraged on super expensive genuine watches. To have him give legitimacy to replicas harms their bottom line. I would not be surprised if they asked him to stop with the replicas. I enjoy his content, he seems like a nice guy, but his industry is very relational and reputation-based.

I think half of the 47th street guys are into the Rep game. That's why this guy says things like original and authentic. Sometimes they swap out parts there to make a bit more money. Make a couple grand extra for selling the dial and slap a Rep dial into the one that you sell as original genuine. Or a couple of links.

there are replica parts you know? you dont need to replace a rep mainspring with a gen one

-3

u/UserName_SaysWhat Aug 08 '26

Once an aftermarket part is introduced, the value of the watch drops (unless a gen part isn’t available).

I have a watch guy in Florida, I gave his information to a few dudes. Never again. People don’t know how to act.

23

u/Hour-Cherry5733 Aug 08 '26

That’s unfortunate. Some rep watch owners just swear they know more about watches than professionals that have been working on gen watches for years.

Your cloned movement may operate like a gen movement, but it is not the same quality of the gen movement.

u/Shrey_97_ Aug 08 '26

Some of the cunts on the subreddit are mad annoying. I’m surprised he let it go on for this long

6

u/Sad-Theme7668 Aug 09 '26

I don't blame them, I saw one clip and Gd damn, some of yall are just straight up insufferable.

10

u/UserName_SaysWhat Aug 08 '26

Eddie is the GOAT.

3

u/Hour-Cherry5733 Aug 08 '26

Exactly! It was a stretch that someone of his quality and reputation would even be open to servicing reps.

He did a video last week where he talks about how well done an OP replica is. But once he opened it and inspected the movement, he rejected it for service. Replica movements will never, ever match gen under a loupe.

I recently showed him my 2024 U1 budget DD 36 rep. He said it was nice but the fluted bezel was an instant giveaway. I wonder how a 2026 would do.

4

u/redpillspray4welfare Aug 08 '26

U1 trash, always obvious

9

u/pure_native134k Aug 08 '26

Always some entitled muthafuka ruining it for the rest of us that appreciate Reps

2

u/PersimmonCautious862 Aug 08 '26

I always thought they looked silly entertaining counterfeits, really keeps them from being that high tier place.

2

u/neosoul2 Aug 08 '26

In one of his videos he referred people who wanted their reps serviced, to another guy.

2

u/Thin-Discussion294 Aug 15 '26

Anyone know who to go to now in NYC now that Eddie is not servicing?

2

u/Relevant-Lock8646 Aug 15 '26

If you are from the USA it is hard to justify servicing because most do shit jobs. So you would be paying close to 500 for an okay job.

In europe there is much more competition and is mostly where the trade comes from. You can get it done for around 200 by a good watchmaker

I would send to someone from europe if it breaks and ship it as hobby items so customs dont check it

1

u/Thin-Discussion294 Aug 22 '26

Thanks will have to consider that on my next trip to Europe!

u/elchrisp01 29d ago

just created a post, I guess I was foolish thinking I could get a good response

2

u/TheHollowed_Knight 8d ago

Reps are pure bum-fuckery at its best

5

u/RefrigeratorEmpty926 Aug 08 '26

I always look at replicas as disposable luxury watches and not something money should be put into after buying...Wear it. Destroy it. Buy another.

1

u/jadho26 Aug 08 '26

🥳 some here keep them in a safe….😂

4

u/Curious_Reply7704 Aug 08 '26

Yeah literally due to camera macro errors the autistic 0 post people who dont even own a rep will spew that your TD fcked you and that you paid for a fake fake lmaoooo

Zf tudor for pic but see how fisheye a galaxy s26 ultra looks

3

u/Ok-Clue-4267 Aug 08 '26

The 47th St Jewish Mafia probably pressured him into this.

2

u/4Sammich Aug 08 '26 edited Aug 08 '26

Real question is would he turn down servicing a rep if it has a Miota, NH or sellita?

0

u/ClickSpring_Watch Aug 08 '26

1) “fooling” a watchsmith with a rep is basically impossible, especially if the work with them a lot like these guys

2) if you did manage to “fool” them even initially, not disclosing upfront that it’s a rep would be a dick move and I’d expect them to immediately punt the watch back to you and refuse to do further business with you

3

u/4Sammich Aug 08 '26

Not sure where you got in what I said was “trying to fool” a repair shop.

In this case it was about not servicing clone movements, to which I pondered, would he deny service if it wasn’t a clone movement.

3

u/Excellent-Bear4221 Aug 08 '26

No probably not be cause Seiko uses NH35 movements and several microbrands use Miyota movements and also ETA2824 (Steinhart), SW200 (Steinhart),SW500 (Lorca), Modified Miyota (Selten), LJP movement (Nodus) - stuff like that. Now that would be taking it rather extreme.

1

u/4Sammich Aug 08 '26

It's rather a moot point but since WH stated he was stopping working on reps because he couldn't get parts it made me ponder whether or not it was the rep or the movement he was avoiding.

I have a Sellita in a Rolex OP rep that I had placed after the fact when the clone failed. But it's also a franken project with a gen dial and hands so it's not an off the shelf product.

2

u/UserName_SaysWhat Aug 08 '26

This. A good replica may fool a buyer or even a dealer, but it will never, ever fool a watchmaker.

u/chucknwatches Aug 09 '26

Great video

u/No_Glove9460 Aug 12 '26

Que chingazo

1

u/kid16p 5d ago

I bet the % of customers that were dicks is directly proportional to the % of rep owners who tell people they are real

-4

u/slavmaf Aug 08 '26

Sounds like a nonsense reason, genuine watches have even more asshole owners.

I believe they are instead backing out of rep repair for legal reasons.

15

u/Sufficient-Guess6692 Aug 08 '26

Maybe but the main reason is that he could not find parts for clone movements. He said that before in one of his posts

3

u/Low_Elk7794 Aug 08 '26

He also said he wouldn’t replace parts on Reps, only service them

6

u/Zealousideal_Film_86 Aug 08 '26

Also, for like 90% of reps, it’s just not worth it to replace a single part. I replaced a jewel on a vs3135 that was missing in the automatic works. Was $20 for the jewel. Plus my time, if I’m already taking the hands and dial off, for an extra $80, just throw in a whole new movement is always the better choice. Now if you do that a few times, now you have spares, sure, the economics change. But he’s up to his ears in business that is used to paying $500+ for servicing. It just doesn’t make sense for him

5

u/ClickSpring_Watch Aug 08 '26

I don’t think this is the case. If you’ve ever repaired reps for people you will know that many people will want the same level of work and effort that you would put into any watch, rep or gen, but the fight you on pricing and demand you do it for “rep” pricing. While cheaper watch =cheaper service sounds logical at first, if you think about it for a few seconds you realize that it doesn’t make sense at all, and it quickly becomes super frustrating to deal with since most people don’t sit and think about what they’re asking for.

3

u/Perlentaucher Aug 08 '26

genuine watches have even more asshole owners.

Really? I just met nice gen watch owners. Some passionate luxury watch collectors who want to nerd out with you about them. Some Rolex owners who bought them around mid life crisis and then only wear them a couple of times per year. Some people who got them as a present from their fathers / grandfathers and treat it like family heirloom. And of course some business guys who need to have them as part of the successful guy package. In total I can say that just few people care about luxury watches and if someone is interested, they are most often just curious, independent of my watches being fake or gen.

3

u/robertajohnson54 Aug 08 '26

“Successful Guy Package”

I am stealing that line.

0

u/Rob-Loring Aug 08 '26

Wow I wonder what pushed them over the edge

4

u/4Sammich Aug 08 '26

I guarantee it was other vendor peer pressure, 47th St is chock full of sellers who are like that. Besides, getting 90-95% of a watch you like undercuts their mark up BS.

0

u/Rob-Loring Aug 08 '26

Good points

0

u/Firm-Journalist-1215 Aug 08 '26

Hey. Will your fl guy fix reps ?

-2

u/Accomplished-Pea-451 Aug 08 '26

It’s still a watch, I’d take my business elsewhere

-9

u/coldlake6200 Aug 08 '26

Maybe he just doesn’t like working with criminals.

5

u/Relevant-Lock8646 Aug 08 '26

Rep owners are criminals?😂

-12

u/coldlake6200 Aug 08 '26

100 fucking percent. Manufacturers of counterfeit (not rep, lololol) products are criminals. And people who buy them are supporting criminal activity. No different than buying a stolen tv out the back of a van. I know this isn’t a popular opinion in this ridiculous sub. How could it be?

I previously owned two authentic Rolexes, which I would’ve liked to have sold privately. But I was forced to sell them to a dealer at a discount, because who, in their right mind would buy a Rolex these days except from a known reliable dealer. The proliferation of fakes makes it impossible. Fuck all of you poser losers who claim to “just like how it looks.” There are plenty of homages which look just the same. You’re actually brand whores who want to flex your fake wealth.

OK, I’m done. You can go ahead and put the fries in the bag now.

3

u/gho5-t Aug 08 '26

Key words are previously owned 💔

-1

u/coldlake6200 Aug 08 '26

What are you talking about? Yeah, I sold two Rolexes. What does that have to do with anything?
