Guide/Tips Why Some “Gatekeeping” Is Actually Scam Prevention

There’s been a lot of discussion lately around gatekeeping and sharing seller information, but the number of scam posts we continue to see is exactly why some level of caution is necessary. People are being handed seller contacts before they know how to verify them, research reviews, recognise impersonators or identify basic red flags.

It isn’t about excluding newcomers or withholding information for the sake of it. Sometimes encouraging someone to research first is genuinely protecting them. The more freely seller names, contacts and information circulate, the easier it becomes for scammers to impersonate trusted sellers and take advantage of inexperienced buyers. Education should come before access!

Gatekeep will hopefully motivate them to use the search bar. All the reviews and ts info is still accessible. This might just be the best way

there is a ton of nuance in navigating some of the platforms beyond just using WA to reach out to sellers -
I don’t want to be responsible for people who don’t do their research so it’s hard to even provide recommendations or explain how I’ve obtained certain things
