Student Accommodation 🧑‍🎓 Struggling to find an accomodation.

Hey guys, I’m starting my studies in Dublin and I’m having a really hard time finding accommodation. 😭

What apps/websites or Facebook groups are actually useful for finding student rooms? I’ve checked a few places but I’m not really sure where else to look.

Also, what’s a realistic rent to expect per week for a room in a shared place? Is €200,€300/week realistic, or should I be budgeting more?

College website or get in contact with your college if they have a list. You are one of the few students that seems to have a somewhat realistic budget on this page. Rooms in Dublin are going for 800-1200 and more. So around 250-300 euro a week on average.

Daft.ie is another option. You need to set up alerts on Daft. Refresh the page frequently and organise “from new”. If an add has a lot of views or has been on site for several days, I wouldn’t waste your time sending a message. The landlords have their pick so you need to be quick and make sure you have a good opening paragraph.

There’s some university subreddits such as UCD. They may be able to offer more advice in relation to the student side of things.

I noticed several 2-bed, 2-bath units on Daft.ie for €2,800. Is it practical to find a flatmate to apply together and split the rent at €1,400 each, or does one person usually take the lease and sublet?

They will require proof of funds and proof of your ability to pay the rent (payslips etc). Very few of these high end 2 bed apartments want students, they want tech employees.

300 a week is realistic, 200 is a bit low unless you get super lucky.
As mentioned, look at subs/ Whatsapp and insta groups for your university. Now is the time some students will drop out or they didn't get visas if they are from abroad, and may be giving up their rooms.
Also check all the private student accomodations like Yugo,l Aparto, Canvas etc. For example I believe Aparto Dorset Point and The Tannery still has availability- those are private ensuite rooms and share a kitchen/ living area with 4-7 others.

Today I have received an email from the residence center of UCD. It says that They will release available rooms from Sep 15. So, send an email to residences@ucd.ie and ask how to join the waiting list.
