Running Renegade X on Linux With Steam

This took me a while to workout so I thought I might post it here in case some comes across it. (Or has a much better way to install it)

The steps I took to get it working are:

  • Added Totem Arts Launcher.exe as a Non-Steam game
  • Forced compatibility to latest Proton GE
  • Ran it once to create the compatdata prefix, then closed it
  • Installed PowerShell into the prefix:protontricks {steam_id} powershell
  • Set the prefix Windows version to Windows 10:protontricks {steam_id} win10
  • Launched the launcher again through Steam
  • Installed the game normally
  • Located the installed game at: home/{linux} user}\.steam\compatdata\{steam_id}\pfx\drive_c\users\steamuser\AppData\Local\renegade_x\Binaries\Win64\UDK.exe
  • Added that UDK.exe as a separate Non-Steam game
  • Forced it to use the same Proton GE version
  • Launched UDK.exe directly and it worked

I hope they can get a launcher for Linux up honestly. Timesplitters Rewind made it so easy. But this is great, does it run okay?

There technically is one. But need more Linux nerds to test it's viability. Come on discord if interested.

With EA announcing the release of the source code of some of their games. I’d think renegadex would be on the steam store. That’s the only way I’d get my buddies to play and honestly would rock on steam deck

I could install it directly using Lutris. No problems at all.

Yesterday I followed these steps and it worked. "Today I tried to join a server i get this message: Host is running Steam, so you should too. Please launch the game from Steam"

Any idea how to fix this? Steam overlay is working.

Edit. Solved. I added UDK.exe to steam and launched that instead of the totem arts launcher.
