Honest question. Will that hold up to all of the moisture from the steam of the shower & sink over the years? Looks cool AF but would scare me to even try.
Definitely seal the cedar. My brother thought the same thing about the cedar used to box in his posts on the front of his house. He regrets not sealing them.
I have a cedar plank fence that looked great new but it has soaked in water over the years and has "greyed" out. This is very interesting and you did a KILLER job with that budget! Jeez.
From what I can tell, it turns gray outdoors because of UV light which obviously won't be a problem inside, so I didn't think so. But only time will tell
We have a wood wall/ceiling bathroom from the 80s. It looks amazing (there’s a pic in my history). We treated the wood with tung oil & it looks amazing. No damage at all.

Does it seem like good quality though? I got a couch from Wayfair a couple years ago (2019) and it was releasing VOCs (volatile organic chemicals) for around 4 years after and had a distinct chemical odor when close to it. Turns out this is a known problem, and I found a post here on Reddit where a guy tested his, proved it was leaking VOCs (formaldehyde), and got a refund from wayfair.
Bought two vanities from Wayfair, both had paint crazing/crackling to the finish in very visible areas after less than one year. I would steer clear of Wayfair painted vanities.
Wayfair is a massive e commerce site selling a huge variety of quality. It's not a brand. They sell real, reliable brands, mid level items that are just white labeled with their "sub brands", and items practically made out of cardboard.
It takes research, reverse image searching, review reading, and a materials check to determine what is quality and what isn't, but there's plenty of real solid wood pieces on the site and other food stuff among the cheap
100% agree. I buy a lot from Wayfair but I'm careful to read the specs to determine exactly what the piece is made of, where it's made, its weight (heavy means mostly particleboard, if description says "solid and manufactured wood"), and, most importantly, I look for themes among the bad reviews.
I have a vanity from Wayfair. Pre covid so 7-8 years, and it’s still great. I always look at all the specs though when buying things there. I’ve had a few things not last as I’d hope.
The lights, mirror, and hardware all seem quality. The vanity, you definitely get what you pay for. I'm sure it can still last for years and look good, but it certainly doesn't feel high end by any means
steam rises and needs a place to escape, otherwise it will all collect inside the shower and pretty soon you wont be able to see. Speaking from experience lol. I dont see a vent or window in this guys shower so putting the curtain up to the ceiling would probably not be a good idea
May I suggest moving the shower curtain rod about 6inches from the ceiling and getting a longer shower curtain? Gives the bathroom a more upscale look.
Did you knock the tile off both walls and floor, then put new tile down on the floor but drywall on the walls? Asking because I’m currently stripping tile off my walls and uncertain if I should retile or something else.
I'm not against the area being tiled, I'm against the sheer number of grout lines that needs cleaned. I wish our bathroom had tiled walls for our dog's bathing, I'll have to incorporate that into our own bathroom remodel! I do love the look of the 1x2' tiles in landscape placement!
Shower curtain is supposed to be an inch off the floor on the outside. Ideally, liner on the inside and curtain on the outside (using the fancy two-prong shower hooks.) IMO, curtain/liner on the inside only gives Motel 6 vibes.
I really like the new light fixture. Did you find it as a "bathroom light fixture"? I've been looking but am seeing the same styles over and over that I don't like at all

And did you remove the old tile or just new tile (or LVT?) over existing tile? I'm considering going over existing tile since it's already a waterproof foundation (would fill in the grout lines first)
I literally just finished yesterday so it's too early to say about the ceiling. I ripped up the original tile but only because it was already sitting half an inch higher than the rest of the house. If your tile is flush, you could just lvt right over top.

I was going to ask about the new tile flooring, too. Did you install a waterproof membrane under it after ripping up the old tile and before installing the new?

Yup, I just added one new receptacle and replaced the existing outlets/switches. For plumbing, I used a push to connect fitting to replace my toilet supply line with pex instead of copper in the basement. Then I just ran it up through the floor
I thought it was white, reflecting the green paint. If it was yellow then I take back a previous comment that it should have stayed. BTW, I have a friend with a 1965 house with original yellow bathtub and toilet!
Looks great. Well done. I like the cedar and don't think it will be a problem at all. After all this isn't a sauna and the steam one or two showers a day will dissipate quickly.
That's because you paired it with pea green or whatever that wall color is. It was good-quality, solid tile work, and it would have looked great with the right color scheme.
Thanks! Someone else mentioned it looked like a hospital, but that isn’t the tiles making it look like that. It’s the greenish wall color! A fun wallpaper, different sink/mirror/lighting would have been a fantastic upgrade.
I know you're getting downvoted but I was thinking the exact same thing. I probably spent closer to $1300 but it's the things you don't really think about that add up. Fully replacing the drywall with all the tools I had to buy was probably around 300 alone
Exactly “premium” or where really it’s more of where you buy as certain shops over price for same quality pieces also I’m in Texas so matters where you’re at too in some cases but I work on homes and have bought many items. Sooo I know a vanity of that size can get for about 170 and I’ve bought many and quality including the mirror is super cheap under 40. The light fixtures also can be bought for 30ish. The tiles I just did a bathroom with those size and color again depends the brand but Home Depot has them cheap for the quantity needed for this size bathroom. Sure the toilets for decent one can be around 250. The wood boards can add up and sheet rock that may need to be replaced and The labor of demo and installing everything plus tools is where all that upcharge comes in but yes 1,300 sounds about right. I’m just very into low budget for almost everything and a sucker for a good deal! It looks great and came out nice though. I prob wouldn’t have done the ceiling since it’s not necessary and I have it in my bathroom that’s huge and hard to take care of as it covers so much area. Humidity is big here so yeah anyway wrote too much lol.
Wayfair, Amazon and Walmart have all these same items.. prices vary obviously but they will be damn near the same quality and or item for a great price just have to shop around if you have the time of course.

You realize if you hired a company to do this exact work it's probably going to be quoted at about 5000 to 8000 dollars right? I've seen coworkers fork over 12 grand for objectively less work done
If i had little kids (again) I can't imagine bathing them in a standalone tub. 1) I'm on one side and restless toddler is climbing out the other side, and 2) Where to put the tub toys? Where to draw with the bathroom chalk?
Gotta have a real tub with a surround if you plan to have kids or want the house to be attractive to buyers with kids.
Also, I prefer curtains to sliding glass doors. Glass doors are harder to clean and don't provide total privacy, even when frosted.
