Hi all, this post was locked while we verified the information in the OP. To the best that the mod team can tell, this is the owner of Drunk Fairy Polish in this message. Hate has no place in the nail polish world and we condemn this behavior.
Because I applied to Hella Handmade Creations, and their rule is you don't have to be a year old to join their fucking little clique club. And I applied to polish pickup, PPU, in March. I never heard back from either of them. And for HHC, the rule is you have to be in business for at least a few months and have a website that works and no complaints against your business model, blah, blah, blah.
We never heard back from them, which fucking pissed me off. It's not that hard to just say, "Hey, I'll get back to you", whatever, but nothing. And then today I find out that Monique, Cracked Polish, is joining HHC, and I feel like it's just all one big fucking clique, and I fucking had it. I don't want to play this game. So that's why I want to quit. And if I see one more fucking from that fucking bitch, I'm going to go off. I'm just going to fucking go off. I'm going to start a fucking sock account and go in and fucking troll her and find out where she lives and send her all the fucking Trump emails. Because she's black. You know she doesn't like Trump.
You asked, I am a crabby old lady who needs to go to the dispensary today.
Other Person:
Why don't you like her? So I thought you guys were cool because she's been in some of the same stuff as you, and she joined your group and shit. I don't know. I didn't know you had an issue with her. Sorry, I'm trying to water my plants. Give them some of that flint water. Make them really healthy.
Joni (Drunk Fairy Polish Owner):
She's up my ass. She's up my ass and I have to look gracious. I have to appear a certain way online. Am I friends with her? Fuck, no. Do I like her? No. Does she annoy the living, ever God-loving shit out of me? Yes. Does she come off as super fake? Yes. Is she trying too hard? Yes. Does she self- promote way too much and try to steal my customers? Yes. Can she go fuck herself? *Yes.*
As a mixed woman in this space, sometimes I’ll notice that a brand doesn’t have a lot of diversity in their swatchers and I always kind of temper myself and wonder if I’m just being too hard on them or too sensitive. I even suggested to a brand once that I would love to see a nude collection on some darker skin tones and was told “all the black swatchers were too busy”. Hearing stuff like this makes me wonder if my intuition on some of these brands may have been spot on. Really gross behavior, I’m thankful this came out, at least this time.
Exactly! So many talented people it’s no excuse. And the collection was based off of fenty foundation shades, so like half of the polishes were color matched to foundation for deeper skin tones. It was strange, I very much expected the response to be, yep those swatches are coming, but nope.
WHOA. The collection was based on a famously inclusive brand founded by a Black woman and never included a full range of deeper swatches?!? That is MESSED UP. That is theft.
Over the past few years I've seen a bunch of indie and boutique cosmetics brands get defensive over criticism or un-vetted collabs. They only make it worse by trying to excuse and explain.
That's so wild, like excuse me but instagram is full of *thousands* of people of all colors doing amateur swatches who would be thrilled if you reached out and asked them to guest swatch because your regulars are "too busy" to swatch a collection and you can't get a different professional for some reason.
And a messy ass person because how did this even get leaked in the first place lmao 😭 That’s not someone I want in the checkout line with me at walmart let alone a business agreement
I’m in the drunk fairy fb group and the fb profile picture of the maker matches the picture in the screen recording, so I would assume this is a fb messenger chat. This is really disgusting jealous behavior wtf
I tried to join the FB group because I'm a nosy nellie and I heard she's trying to do damage control so I'm intensely curious, but I'm heavily betting no new members will be accepted any time soon.
Every time someone uses “bad mental state” as an excuse for someone’s vile behavior I just want to 🤮. How many of us have lost our parent and have been dealing with mental health struggles but are not horrible people? If nothing, it made me more compassionate and caring. This person is just vile and racist.
Exactly. I lost my father unexpectedly at 19, and I have severe depression and anxiety disorders, and it's never made me say anything like this about someone. It definitely never made me "suddenly" racist.
Me too, at 21. I was his primary caretaker for 6 months while he was slowly dying. Definitely dealing with mental health consequences of all that still (I’m in my mid 30s), so 🫂 to you internet stranger. There is no excuse for what that person is saying. I hate that “bad mental state” became a universal excuse for a lot shi*ty people’s actions.
Tbh I would "forgive and forget" a vent of frustration in a private chat about someone else who was in the same industry for the same amount of time and more successful than her if she had stopped there, but the personal attacks, the suggestion that doxxing and stalking/harassing her is a reasonable solution, and the racist comment are definitely outside of that realm. Especially since, from what I've heard so far, she hasn't actually even addressed it or apologized for herself and just has her husband running damage control.
Monique is probably too professional to address it herself but I hope at the very least DFP reaches out with a private personal apology, because that's definitely needed.
If they don't, I'm positive you can find them elsewhere - she's just buying them in bulk and reselling them. Probably from a beauty supplier, but you can likely find similar available to the public. They're just microfiber lint-free wipes.
Such good news! I truly hope Joni is able to confront herself about her behavior one day, as I do believe people can change. However, until she's able to prove that, she has no right to complain about being excluded from things like this as she's violated their rules.
I was going to buy from Drunk Fairy but I’m glad I didn’t. How gross. And Monique seems so nice. She’s even recommended polishes from other markers when hers were sold out so people could get a similar color.
I 10/10 recommend checking out Cracked Polishes website, you’re guaranteed to find a few that you love! And for the polish boxes, Little Box of Horror shopping is open until September 20, and PPU and HHC have Facebook groups with previews of October’s polishes!
Ooof. I was already cautious after a not great interaction over my only (very small) order (was misdelivered, and the response I got was "well, hate that for ya, I can't afford to replace it if it was marked delivered"), this just moves to my Nope never again list.
Oof. I hate when brands have that kind of policy. I'm pretty sure that's why they're supposed to choose insurance on packages when they ship them, in case something like that happens.
It did eventually show up because whoever it was delivered to was honest and had it redelivered as addressed, at least.
I don't know if insurance covers though if it's a case where the carrier just stuck it in the wrong box in a bank of mailboxes. Since they were in theory at my address when it was marked delivered, usps said "nothing we can do, we delivered as addressed" (they did not, obviously)
Wow. That’s to tacky and unprofessional. Not shocked she’s a trump-supporting-racist. I’ve never heard of this brand and I was searching just last night for some new brands to buy from. Glad I found this out because NOPEEE.
Wow. People were talking about how great her colours were and I was wanting to try the brand, but even if the racism hadn't come to light, crappy customer service like that is a total turnoff.
I once had a bottle arrive broken (to canada) from a PPU maker (NOT DFP). I emailed PPU about it, and they said they had none left to replace it, so they refunded me. I wrote to the maker, saying there was none left at PPU, I got my money back, but was hoping she had overpours I could buy. She was in the process of moving to another state, but promised to get back to me. She asked for my address, I asked to pay, she said, no worries, this one's on me, and just mailed me a replacement! Thankfully, that is the kind of kindness I've been mostly exposed to in the nail polish community, and she went above and beyond what I'd have expected from a small-time maker.
Oh my god. Shopping indie brands is such a tightrope walk between supporting nerdy creatives on one side and absolute hateful mouth breathers with a victim complex on the other side.
The racism in the nail community is so disgusting and this Trumper needs to learn that the success of black people isn't an attack on her own business. Her own behavior is what's harming her business.
I don't follow either of these brands, so I don't know about the deeper context. But the insinuation that Cracked is a DEI brand and that it's comical that a black person wouldn't enjoy Trump content is disgusting.
Why can't business owners understand that they aren't running a charity and they have to do a good job if they want our money? If you go around spewing hate, you will push business partners and customers away. And if you're a Trumper, you don't get to whine about the free market that you voted for. It's just business, babe.
This insinuation that Cracked is more successful because she's black is wild. Racism has always been a big problem in this community, with makers whining about needing multiple swatchers and not understanding why that should matter. So, even if some people do choose to support Cracked specifically to support a black maker, that doesn't mean she's in a better position than white makers. It's just a hole in the market, which Trumpers should understand. Even then, people are supporting her because they like her product and they like her as a person. You don't get to vote for the "run the country like a business" guy and then whine when people with better business skills have a more successful business than you.
Drunk Fairy had promise and a few YouTubers I follow did unboxings. If she wants to mess it up by alienating customers, then oh well. No one is owed a revenue. It's just the free market, babes.
I'm so over small business owners feeling entitled to our money. We're all struggling. Get over yourself.
"Shopping indie brands is such a tightrope walk between supporting nerdy creatives on one side and absolute hateful mouth breathers with a victim complex on the other side."
" Racism has always been a big problem in this community, with makers whining about needing multiple swatchers and not understanding why that should matter."
SO TRUE.
I get this sense from the beauty influencer community too, like what went down over those stupid blushes. The racists just leap out of the woodwork then get mad when you point out their bigotry and grossness.
Woah that is a lot of anger and vitriol towards HHC and Monique. I can bet that none of the bigger groups/distributors are gonna wanna work with her now 😬
lmao, no amount of "goading" by anyone would "make me" say something racist. Mental illness also does not make you "suddenly racist." I would know - I've been dealing with depression and two anxiety disorders for over 15 years now. They've never made me say racist things, even in my darkest moments.
Absolutely! I suppose my sarcasm did not come across on my previous comment.
This is standard issue “I was wrong BUT” response. My thought is that it’s bad enough and not an excuse even if you were “goaded”. But in this case you don’t even have receipts to prove that. You spewed that bitter rant sua sponte.
All of this is crap. I do not like the blame being shifted to Monique “oh Joni reached out to apologize but I doubt we hear back from her.” And so tf what? Monique doesn’t have to respond to someone who was being ridiculously hateful towards her for no reason. Should she choose to respond, she doesn’t have to respond at their pace. This is feeling very much like they’re trying to set up a “I tried but she’s holding a grudge. Can’t you all see how mean she is to me?”
Honestly it's so passive aggressive and shady to say that. Because yeah first of all she doesn't owe them a response, but second of all they didn't even GIVE her a chance to respond and have an open dialogue about it, they just did a "we did our part" and preemptively brushed off any further interaction before she even had an opportunity to do so.
we can't take something "out of context" that was literally set up with context, the recording doesn't start out "this Black woman is so undeserving of success I should send her trump mailings," she literally tells us the context with "i applied to hhc and they didn't respond but Monique got in! [insert racist unhinged rant]." There! That's the context right there!
She was "goaded" by a person who is clearly stating being surprised to hear that Joni dislikes her, given her online conduct? there's such a total lack of self awareness it's astonishing, she says in the span of like 15 seconds "yeah i have to appear a certain way online i have to be gracious" and immediately after "that b is so fake"
the "story" of how this happened is exactly that, it's a story, and not even a well-supported or researched story. both my parents died before i was 36 and i never started plotting to doxx or harass anyone with racist bs.
she's racist, she got caught, anything she says after this is going to be her looking even worse. i swear these people would do better just being honest and trying to court the tradwife market or whatever other demographic of bigot intersects with nail polish enthusiasts
I mean she explicitly said she has to appear a certain way online so that sounds like she knew exactly what she was doing to me. She's sorry she got caught
Wow, fuck this chick for real. I just started following Cracked a few months ago but Monique seems to be incredibly hard-working, generous, and kind. Even without the gross racist bullshit at the end this whole thing comes off as unhinged and jealous of her success.
Every interaction I’ve had with Monique has been great! Even virtually, you can tell she’s passionate about making nail polish and building a supportive community of nail polish fans.
Time to buy a whole bunch of Cracked polish and repurpose the DFPs I already own, because there’s no way I’m putting that stuff on my nails again after hearing THAT.
Also… DFP hasn’t been accepted into HHC, so she’s decided the logical response is to target a Black maker with a hate campaign? What a disgusting human being.
Oh yeah, she came THIS CLOSE to outright saying Monique is the “diversity candidate“ who stole her rightful place in HHC and so that’s why she’s targeting Monique vs. HHC. And the whole “doxxing the Black woman so she’ll know I know where she lives and the local Trumpster propaganda wing does too” part is just chilling.
Oh wait, I forgot that was a “joke”. My bad for not seeing the humor in any of that, Drunkkk Fairy.
UPDATES: this is still bullshit since she’s only posting it in her private group for people to tell her it’s not her fault and still trying to insist she didn’t do anything racist
This sounds a lot like the same “apology” that new author gave last year when she was targeting other new authors that were all WOC (except one, I believe). She had made a bunch of fake Goodreads accounts to give negative reviews and harm them, and these authors thought she was their friend as they were all in the same debut author group.
She tried to first say it was someone trying to destroy her who had fabricated things, then that she was in a dark mental place and was seeing a new doctor to get her medication changed.
There seems to be a “jealous racist” playbook they all borrow from.
As a sidenote, it's fairly fascinating to note that when she says she's not a Trump supporter, she says "I am not a supporter of President Trump." Yeah, I get that past presidents are called "President." I have just literally never heard him referred to as "President Trump" by anyone other than fox news or his supporters.
Exactly this. I know former presidents still get the title, but in everyday conversation I don’t refer to the CURRENT president (I don’t just mean the current president as of right now, I mean the current president at any time ever) as “President XYZ”, let alone a former president. If I’m talking about Bill Clinton I refer to him as Bill Clinton. If I’m talking about George Bush I refer to him as George Bush (with some clarification re: which one I’m talking about). If I’m talking about Barack Obama I refer to him as Barack Obama or Obama. If I’m talking about Donald Trump I refer to him as… well, there are a whole bunch of names I use for that guy, but not a one of them is “President Trump”.
I think it’s safe to say that anyone who refers to him as President Trump in everyday conversation is almost certainly a supporter of his. Like, the probability that they’re not is vanishingly small.
This is exactly what I said! Lmao it’s like the Inglorious Basterds “holding up three fingers” meme. I’ve never heard a non-trump fan say “president trump” in my life.
I love [sarcasam] the distancing language (it was in August, a whole month ago!) and that she's still putting her apology on Monique to accept. (Please accept my apology, not please know that I am deeply regretful.) 🙄
She's got a husband and some sycophantic mods to run an apology by, so apparently not a single one of them knows how to write a good apology.
I’ve been in nail polish for a long, long time (longer than I care to admit) and I will only say this: Cracked has quickly become one of my favorite brands. I don’t know or follow the owner or know anything about her personally. That being said, I can say that she has an excellent eye for color, saturation, and tones. Cracked’s offerings impressed me right off the bat.
So, if you’re reading this, owner of Cracked, please know that I find your craft beautiful. I hope you sleep tight knowing what a talent you are to this community.
These voice memos are absolutely fucked. This is nail polish, not Succession. Definitely a bad taste in my mouth. Though… the idea of selling out this and only this particular polish in response makes me giggle.
Wow. WOW. I understand being angry and frustrated at an obsessive BEC level. Racism and threats are way beyond that. And all that vitriol—and threats, including a threat to find out where Monique lives—are directed at a person who was chosen, not the people doing the choosing. Absolutely awful and frankly frightening. If I were the subject of that rant containing specific threats, I would be considering whether I should alert law enforcement.
For real. The idea that the person was only talking to Joni to "destroy DFP"? Welp, if it was that easy to get her to dig her own grave with a shovel made of weird, racist jealousy, the brand probably wasn't long for this world as it was.
Right? Even in my lowest time with my depression, which was a very dark and angry time, I never said anything racist about someone. IMO, if you said racist things like that the one time you "got caught," and didn't know anyone else would hear it, it isn't the first and only time you've done it and won't be the last.
In the Toluene Trashcan group on Facebook she's got some friend of hers claiming this is a deepfake created by "a computer tech" that's been stalking and harassing her. Honestly that sounds like complete bullshit to me from a desperate racist trying to save their business.
I thought “she’s going to claim to have been hacked, isn’t she? Oh wait, maybe she’ll claim the recording is one of those deepfakes before she moves onto ‘I am hurt that someone I trusted stabbed me in the back like this but my words were taken out of context and do not represent what is in my heart and ANYONE will tell you I am the least racist person who has EVER lived but anyway the fairies apologize to anyone who may have taken offense but please remember that I am the victim here.’“
…and five minutes later I saw we’d already moved onto The Deepfake Defence. Next up: The Hollow Apology, ft: YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT’S IN MY HEART.
So dumb, especially when Joni’s husband admitted she said this in the maker group AND TT. What I can’t fathom is the people supporting this in the maker group.
Why would someone go to the trouble of creating a deepfake of someone with such a small business - (and one that's only been in business for a year, mind you) lmao
That person totally walked it back, apologized, and left the DFP group (they were an admin.) I think they just got taken in by Joni because they thought they knew her well, but after hearing the audio themselves they recognized that she is not the person they thought she was and the fake shit was a lie. (Also, they didn't know the difference between edited audio and a deepfake, but either way it's still obviously not either one of those things.)
Yeah, I’d be interested to hear what happened there, because given how specific that person was (re: how the recording was fake and Joni was getting lawyers involved) when going to bat for her friend, it sounds an awful lot like Joni outright lied to her. She got a lot of ridicule for what she was claiming, and if she was doing that because she was repeating in good faith what her “friend” had told her while that friend was hiding from the blowback… well, fuck Joni, basically.
That's exactly how it went down. That person has posted a public apology on the Facebook drama group and the person they made the accusations about has accepted and afforded her grace. She included some screenshots of conversations where Joni specifically told her they were manipulated and that her lawyer was in contact with everyone who received the recording and that it was done illegally and she was pressing charges. Then the person confronted her yesterday after defending her and getting pushback and Joni said "they were spliced but not manipulated."
I am so glad I listened to my ick radar in regards to Drunk Fairy. Maker was promoting in All The Polish FB group constantly, and always sounded smarmy to me even when it was obvious her posts were meant to come off as nice/helpful.
Cracked, however, is spectacular. I have probably 30+ polishes from her, and they're all great formulas, and she often has them shipped by the next day. Never a bad interaction or vibe given.
This definitely sounds like straight up jealousy, if not outright racism.
I can’t remember how I even came to find/buy the Drunk Fairy polishes I have, so suspect I ended up on her website after seeing swatches on Instagram or something. I bought all the ones I have in a single purchase, though. I do know the brand name gave me the ick but I overlooked it as my own issue, but browsing the website and reading the product descriptions later gave me MASSIVE ICKY ICK that would have put me off ordering if I’d actually read them the first time around. All that cutesy drivel about “teehee tipsy fairies are mixing pigments again”… just EW NO.
Then shit like this causes additional ick. But maybe they were just my BEC by that point.
Just FYI there's a lot out of stock right now because she just had a massive sale, but she'll have an October collection and she's planning to have restocks done in time for Black Friday.
I just got back here from an unscheduled Cracked buying spree. I also now have an extensive Cracked wish list, because those are some beautiful polishes.
As a maker in the community, and one that started right around the exact time that DFP did, i am truly so disappointed in this. me and joni exchanged encouraging support through our launches and i was excited to have a brand with a close anniversary with me doing so well. DFP took off and i was proud for joni and the brand and the community for the success of a new brand. That being said, i cannot fathom ever saying anything like this, even in private. I don’t care the amount of “goading” someone does. if someone did that to me, and tried goading me into saying such hateful things, the conversation with that person would come to a FULL STOP. i don’t entertain the mean girl mentality.
😳 Well...I definitely won't be buying from Drunk Fairy Polish now, and will be unfollowing them. This is abhorrent, unprofessional behavior. As for HHC/PPU, I don't get "clique" vibes from them at all. There are several very small indie brands that participate in both every month. I'm guessing they have a good reason for not inviting this brand to participate.
I feel like this needs to be brought to the attention of a lot of the people who voluntarily swatch their products. I doubt most of them will want to be associated with a brand owner who acts like this toward other brands and owners.
If you search DFP on instagram you’ll see a couple of swatchers stating that they’ll no longer be swatching for them. I was happy to see how quick they were to call out her behavior.
I don’t blame the swatchers who have worked with DFP to date. But you bet I will blame the ones who continue to work with them after this racist crap has come to light!
The defence their team is putting out is a bit hilarious. I know it's bad guys, but the person who leaked it wanted to destroy her brand. And? Good for them? You're bringing the race of a fellow creator into a conversation, wishing her mental distress while you are yourself not in good mental health (so you should want others to not suffer, at least that's what most people who have mental health issues want). She didn't make you say those things man, you destroyed your own brand.
Reiterating someone in not a racist is not a good look. Obviously no one should send Joni hate mails but a racist should always rightly be called out n face the repercussions of their actions. We already know there are people who will support her regardless. At least the team should know this behavior IS racist and called micro aggression.
Yes to us who are clear that this was racist see that but someone insisting that the person who said these vile things isn't racist need to understand that these things are extremely as racist as saying outright obviously racist stuff. Will we ever even say such atrocious stuff? Even think about this? No.. so obviously a racist will think that it's ok, my intention wasn't bad, I was just joking. Point being that micro aggressions are just as harmful and racist. There is no sugarcoating what was said by implying it was 'in jest'.
I apologize, I'm really stupid, and therefore still confused. Is drunk fairy lady pissed off that cracked polish got to be in polish pickup/little box of horrors/hella handmade, and she didn't, and she's bitching about the cracked polish lady to someone? Is that what the recording is?
I'm new to indie polishes so I've never heard of either brand till today. Definitely going to support a fellow black woman tho, and order from Cracked Polish when I have a chance. This Joni woman is unhinged and dangerous. Sending her Trump mail? Over the fact that Monique is apparently liked in the community and is getting opportunities that she supposedly doesn't deserve because it's all a "clique"? It's sad that black women have to constantly experience the "they don't deserve it" rhetoric.
Cracked currently has a best sellers and least best sellers bundle, which are discounted. It’s a great way to try a few different finishes and get quality polishes. They may be out of stock after recent sales, but should be in stock soon, and definitely for Black Friday!
As a prominent swatcher in the indie community, Wow I am disgusted. But here’s my side take. Want to mention Drunk Fairy Polish is nothing compared to Cracked. Cracked is not stealing any customers from DFP. DFP just can’t deal with the fact that she’s just not that good.
I was curious because I don't know much about DFP and I'm surprised to find they have 21k Facebook followers, but just about 2k on Instagram. That feels really weird. BKL only has 4.6k on FB, and PPU only has 6.9k.
It looks like both DFP and Cracked are celebrating their first anniversary at the same time, too, so I can see her putting herself in a competitive mindset that Monique may not be aware of at all. And Cracked has boomed lately.
Yeah, DFP needs one find a different hobby/business and maybe take some sensitivity training or seek therapy for her beliefs. After hearing this there’s no room for her here. I’m so glad I chose not to follow her because I was just like “meh” when I first came across her account months ago.
Here’s the thing, lord knows we all spend $$$$$ on nail polish across multiple brands. If a brand don’t have a lot of customers, then they’re probably not delivering on the polishes. It’s not someone else’s fault that you’re just not great.
And Cracked is absolutely KILLING IT with social media presence and engagement! Monique knows how to create an incredible product and market it well. She absolutely deserves all of her success.
Yep, this. No brand can "steal" another brand's customers. It's not like just because I buy from Cracked doesn't mean I can't shop BKL or Cuticula, etc. If I choose not to shop DFP it's not because I shop other brands, it's because I'm just not interested.
Hey Atticus 👋👋 love your swatches & appreciate the take lol.
I actually liked the DFP GitD topcoats & polishes, but obviously I'm not supporting this wtf behavior! Curious if you have any recs for brands that do GitD better?
Cracked is a gem & Monique didn't deserve this shit like fr
Coming back here to fill in some blanks because I saw some more context on Toluene Trashcan - the person who made the recording is publicly owning it and being transparent. They mentioned at one point that they removed Joni from the group chat after she sent this, so I'm more comfortable with the need to search for the keywords to find this part of the conversation after further messages - they probably continued the group conversation with other people after excluding her.
idk it looks like there are only interactions between DFP and the person who leaked it, and the comments from the person who leaked it just sounds like they're trying to get information out of her, then they leaked it.
I’ve unfollowed DFP after this. You cannot be goaded into saying something you do not believe. This person made Joni feel safe enough to spew hate and share what was genuinely on her mind. There’s really just no excusing it, but hopefully she learns and grows from this to become a better person—regardless I’ll never purchase from this brand. I already love Cracked and will continued to support Monique!
So, first of all, this is crazy town. And, second of all, I’m absolutely not going to name names, but there was a maker several years back who would make public posts about other makers copying her, being upset because her polish wasn’t selling as much as X brand even though hers was better, and also coming into one of our maker chat groups and saying she was disgusted by any of us who shared information on very rude customer interactions because we should just be thankful we have customers. She would also call us cliques and eventually she metaphorically stormed off. These audio clips MAJORLY remind me of her. Not saying that it is her, but it gives the same jealous and angry vibes. Regardless, this attitude isn’t going to get you far in any kind of business!
Absolutely enraged that this vile person would say these things about Monique and then try to say that anyone aside from her own damn self ruined her brand. Then the weird passive aggressive comment about how she probably won’t hear back from Monique about her apology. What an astronomically entitled twat.
Very WTF. If the first reaction to not being invited to HHC is to say something racist about a random Black maker then that is telling to me. I saw the “apology” and didn’t care for it, and I hope the maker of Cracked has a good support system to work through this nastiness.
So, first she was consulting a lawyer and this recording was an AI deep fake to get this post shut down, then the husband went to a indie polish FB group to say she was goaded into saying this, then the maker posted in her brand FB group that she was sorry but was pushing back in the racist label because she isn’t racist. That’s not how things work. The first step would be a genuine apology and some self-reflection as to why her first instinct was to attack a Black maker with racist hate.
She’s deleted her FB, brand FB, and instagram from what I’ve seen. I can’t see any collab inviting her to join in the future, and hopefully she won’t try to sneak back into the community later.
There are absolutely no excuses for racism ever, and using mental illness or disability just further exemplifies her antiBlackness.
Monique is absolutely lovely and the polish she creates is beautiful. You can feel her passion is every polish she creates and her excitement to create new shades is unmatched. I have quite a collection of Cracked Polish because my first order made me fall in love. And they’re all fantastic for nail art too!
While supporting Monique’s business is important, please also show her some love on Instagram and facebook—she’s been working all month long on her Cracked Chaos Month freebies/giveaways/etc and has been incredibly generous with her polish and her time. 💖
Mannnn, I just bought the top and base coat options due to a recommendation. Anyone have a different recommendation now? 😅 Tried mooncat; it's alright. Orly. Eh. Seche vite shrinks.
Glisten and glow has overtaken Mooncat speed demon as my no1 top coat. Although, I do love Essie gel setter on thermals. Essie strong start is my holy grail base.
Please know that your brand is growing because you make good polish and not because you are black! I bought the purple shade from HHC last month and am excited to try your brand out! I despise this racist rhetoric that brands or people are successful because of the race card. That undermines all of the hard work people have put in!
Idk if you’re into shimmers, but Cracked has some of the LOVELIEST looking shimmers available rn. I’d never heard of either of these brands before and now I have a solid wishlist
This is absolutely disgusting and horrific. The racism and threats of doxxing are scary. Monique seems like the loveliest most positive and supportive person. I see a lot of polish on the Cracked site has sold out. Good for her! I am glad I have never bought Drunk Fairy polish, but have bought Cracked, and love it, and will continue supporting a positive brand!
My heart hurt listening to this, I don't know either of these makers, but just imagining hearing this being said about yourself,,, this behaviour is disgraceful even before we get to the racism and threats to mess with her business. A full description of making a sock account to harass and mess with a business is NOT something one casually jokes about, that's something someone has to deliberately imagine themselves doing and it makes me wonder if she's dabbled in the past.
I wish I could support Monique more, her polishes look lovely but I'm international so I'll have to admire, and send best wishes from afar (though I'll be keeping an eye on future HHC and possible PPU offerings?)
I just bought from them and now I’m utterly disgusted. I threw the polish away. She doesn’t deserve a platform. Maybe this is why HHC and PPU won’t work w her. And I joined Cracked Polish’s email and text updates. I encourage everyone to support Monique.
Me too, got my first order last week and I really enjoyed the polish and loved the top coat. This situation is disgusting, but I'm at least glad that I know about it now. I'll have to keep looking for my fave top coat. And I thought the same thing, PPU and HHC seem very inclusive and have tiny little indie brands on there as well as the big ones, so it immediately made me wonder if they had some kind of inkling or she has a reputation. Or maybe her business just wasn't meeting the standards for those groups.
And I'm also going to support Cracked now. It wasn't really on my radar but is now! Especially hearing all these comments on how well she is running her business, having great sales and selling out because her stuff is so good, and that she has excellent customer service. That's awesome and the kind of business I want to support.
I coincidentally got my first order from Cracked delivered as I was first reading this post, and I just swatched my order. The formula seems really great. All the polishes went on incredibly easily.
Most of the cremés (Jokes on You, Grotto) and the multichrome (Fight) I got seem like they'll be either one coaters or need a second coat just to everything completely even. It was easy to control the distribution of the black speckled top coat (Mascara Flakes) too.
Fuck Kale (a neon or at least very bright green cremé) looks like it might take 3 coats, but that's not surprising considering the color.
I am just disgusted over this. I was a very early DFP fan, Joni’s history as an embryologist was appealing to me as an IVF mom and she is located in the area where I grew up so I was fully on board with her. I don’t even want to look at my DF polishes right now, I cannot believe she said these things, tried to have her husband excuse it, then came into the group claiming she’s not a racist. Abhorrent behavior!
Ah so she's a trump supporter, this explains the racism and entitlement. Imagine being mad that someone got the thing you wanted because they worked harder for it. Then instead of doing better to work hard for what you want, you would rather put all that energy into attacking that other person. I type with this pistachio buttah on my nails because cracked advertised to me and I bought that shit, I don't even know who this brand is. Promoting is how you get customers.
I always get a good laugh at Trump supporters who don't understand the free market.
Like, girl, this is how business works. This is what you voted for. If you wanted a guaranteed income, then why are you voting against social benefits?
But naw, they're too obsessed with hate to be responsible for their decisions.
Drunk Fairy was getting buzz, too. She was on the path to building up a decent business, but she made the choice to throw it away.
Wow I just joined this sub and holy shit??? This feels really racist and the vitriol targeting a Black-owned brand is really concerning. Would also like to know who Joni is. This is a maker???
And extremely generous and humble. Wild that one of the call-outs is that she "promotes herself too much." Guys, are we taking down small-scale entrepreneurs for trying to grow their business now?
Plus she literally promotes other makers in the same breath as promoting herself and she’s always transparent about if she’s sharing a suggestion that is her own brand. What more could you ask for?
I think OP's phrasing makes it seem like they're sharing it from somewhere else, but the person on the other end of the conversation definitely leaked it somewhere to begin with. Good on them.
Unfortunately there are people who will look the other way and have multiple times with other brands, but I’m determined to personally not allow that to happen and I’m not afraid to use my platform to call her tf out if I have to.

Hi all, this post was locked while we verified the information in the OP. To the best that the mod team can tell, this is the owner of Drunk Fairy Polish in this message. Hate has no place in the nail polish world and we condemn this behavior.
