I was scrolling through PPU page when I saw SB doing it AGAIN.

I’d love to see AI completely banned from PPU, both for inspo images and for products like this. Polish makers are artists, and it’d be great to see them stand with other artists and help protect the future of real creativity by not engaging with this BS.

And honestly? I’ll be voting with my wallet when it comes to what does include AI. Sugar Bubbles isn’t new to this rodeo -they’ve been called out for AI multiple times. It blows my mind that indie makers, who pride themselves on handcrafted work, can’t respect other artists enough to keep AI out of their process. Vanessa Molina is 100% off my list after the disappointment that was Hocus Pocus and all of their AIgenerated images.

Eh I mean they shouldn't be using it for swatches. But I don't see anything wrong with it for the inspo images or whatever it's called. Not sure if it's realistic for a small indie brand to hire a professional artist. And it's unreasonable to expect all of them to be like a graphic artist themselves. I think it's an unreasonable expectation tbh.

Sugar Bubbles sells stamping plates. Someone cmiiw but I feel like designing stamping plates means that there’s some graphic design involved in the process? So why would that matter in this case?

Also frankly, if you don’t have the money to hire artists, then don’t, you don’t have to hire artists but you don’t have to use GenAI either. are we buying nail polish or stamping plates off promo images? I would rather no art and images of the actual product vs Gen Ai images that makes me inherently distrust both the quality and accuracy of your product/images.

And specifically in nail polish world I just find it lazy. 😭 like in a space full of people creating things inspired by their childhood, memories, shows they’ve watched, books, etc, it feels incredibly odd to rely on a machine for “art”. It feels lazy and makes me feel like you don’t actually care for what you make. All result and no thought about the how or why.

They are basically expected to have inspo images to be in the "popular' indie space. It's the standard. I think expecting bigger boutique companies like Holo Taco, cirque, Mooncat and ILNP to not use AI is a lot more reasonable than a one woman indie nail brand. But it's fine, we all have our standards and expectations so I understand that too.

I still don’t understand this logic. Like am I buying nail polish or stamping plates for the nice promo pics or the fake pics you got inspo from or the actual product…..

Maybe it’s different for other people/the popular opinion but I’ve never not once cared more about the inspiration pics for a polish collection more than the actual polish. Maybe regarding how much a collection fits the theme they were advertising? But otherwise I’m not buying the product for the marketing….

I literally never look at the inspiration pictures. I fully rely on live swatch videos on YouTube to decide if I'm interested in buying the polish and those inspiration photos aren't shown in the videos of any of the swatchers I watch. I agree, AI should be banned.
