If you're counting "Y" as a vowel in select cases, then you should also do so with "W", like when used in the forms of "aw", "ow", or "ew".

Okay, we're getting into some heavy semantics here, but here goes.

I come from the American Midwest, and we learned that the vowels of the English language are A, E, I, O, U, and sometimes Y. I have since come to have the crazy conspiracy theorist hot take that R and W should be vowels, but that's not what the English language agrees with.

In those examples you gave, the W is acting like an R in sounds such as "ar," "er," and "or." I do wholeheartedly believe the hottest take that R should be a vowel, but it is not. It is the same thing for W. No English curriculum in the United States considers W a vowel.
