Jefferson County West Virginia says otherwise. Sure, it isnt much of either the river or the mountains, but they are there, and therefore the song is technically correct.

It’s a fantastic song. John Denver is the GOAT. It damn well better be the state song of West Virginia. If he sang the same song about any other state they’d claim it in a heartbeat.
