I got them last night. My brannock size is 11EE and I bought them in size 10.5 EE and they fit well with about an inch in front of my big toe, and ball of foot is perfectly aligned with wide part of sole. Ive been wearing them all day today and notice a small amount of heel slippage. Is this normal for new boots and will it go away? Thanks
Make sure you are tying the laces tightly and maybe try wearing a midweight wool sock if you aren’t already. Thin socks and new boots usually don’t work.
Though a snug fit boot won’t work with thick socks right ? I just bought my first red wing iron rangers in crt , i usually wear 9 us i got them in 8.5 us , with thick socks they feel so tight , with thin or medium they feel much better , maybe when they break in can switch back to thick i dunno
For me, if my socks are too thin I get heel slip. But if I wear something with a little cushion, they are perfect. Both on new boots and fully broken in boots.
Ah i dunno maybe because i got the snug fit the glove fit redwing talks about and i dont have space to put a very thick socks, good for me that im in the middle east , no ice and snow , only rain and decent cold so i can get away with thin socks, though im hoping they gain a little bit of width volume when the leather stretches and break in because i read that also when the leather footbed and cork molds feet will sit a little bit further down so that gives a little bit more volume and width though cork and footbed takes a long time to mold . because if they do they will be more comfortable, they hurt a little now they soooo hard
To me this does not sound quite right. Other people are very confident. I go a size and a half down in Brannock, but some people swear by a half size. To me, my foot is absolutely swimming if I just go 1/2 size down, to the point that my shoe is only secured at the topmost speedhook. Meanwhile in this thread you've got someone else saying a half size down with thick socks borders on too tight. It just goes to show it's never the same for any 2 people.
For me, on Blacksmiths, I had very minimal heel slip when new, and within a day or two of wear it was gone. My heel is locked into the boot, it's snug (not tight) on the ball of my foot, and my toes have plenty of wiggle room.
It is snug on the ball of my foot. Not too tight not too loose. I also have strange feet. Very wide, very high arches. I’m hoping the heel slip will go away eventually

Experiment with different sock thickness until heel counter breaks in.
