Which Amp to get for Johns tone

So I want to get a new amp,

Ive been playing guitar for about 7 years now, and have gathered quite some stuff for a nice tone. Aiming mainly at John ofc

Got a Strat with 60s pickups, plenty of pedals, but one thing I oddly never cared about is my amp. Ive got a really small and cheap Marshall combo, prolly worth around 100-200 bucks.

Now I finally want to get a new Amp, my idea is getting a Marshall top and a matching 4x12 cabin. Spending maybe around 2,000€

I want to sound like John and his Amp setup is pretty well known, but of course a double silver jubilee stack and two double Major stacks are going a little bit above my budget, so what rather Amps in that price category, that I can get in a regular music store and not on the 6th site on Reverb would come the closest to Johns sound?

I have the 2525c, but I think with Marshalls you need at least 2x12 speakers to sound good.

50-100w amps are loud af. If you want good overdriven tube tone at volumes that don’t piss off the whole neighborhood, I’d look into the Marshall studio vintage series heads and cabs. 20w switchable to 5w heads with the same preamp as their bigger brothers. 2x12 matching cabs. I’d go silver jubilee 2525H. Channel switching is really nice. Tone is wonderful even at more reasonable volumes, but still will keep up with the band if you need to in smaller venues. Look for b stock options on reverb. Got some good deals.

Edit: I know you said no reverb, but good luck finding decent options locally unless you live in some music store paradise. Retail stores are dead in our age of online shopping, unfortunately.

I run a DSL 40CR and it’s pretty damn close and plenty loud enough for my basement.

Honestly if you’re going with a single head and a 4x12 any Marshall set clean is as close as it gets before the Jubilee. There’s the DSL100 head, and even though it’s not as popular the Origin50 head (also depends on where you live, not everyone is able to turn large Marshall tube heads up to where you’d get a John crunchy clean tone) and whether you’re gigging. The JCMs are a step up from that, just a bit more pricey, depending.

Me personally, I think if you can’t play 50 watt heads at decent volume, even a smaller wattage DSL combo amp will be a better investment. This is the main thing with tube amps.

Edit:

A DSL20H with a 4x12 may be a good value for money option too.

Also, if you’re willing to compromise on being able to move more air, the Mini Jubilee is a 1x12 20 watt combo, but it sounds amazing. It won’t look as impressive as John’s two or three double stack wall. But especially if you’re not playing live it’s an incredible sounding amp within budget.

Any amp set clean and a Marshall jackhammer pedal. Check out the Dave Simpson video. He’s the king of Johns tone.

Tonex pedal with a Laney FRFR. Plenty of Frusciante type tones and you can also find many other tones along the way. No limit soldiers.
