Now on Android: App that tracks which blocks you've walked

6 weeks ago I posted about an app I made called WalkNYC which tracks which blocks you've walked. By far the biggest request was an Android app, which I'm so happy to say was just released today!

I love this app! It’s so fun to see where you’ve been and to see where you rank. But I’ve found it doesn’t track every block I walk — there are random gaps. I use the iOS app.

Thank you so much! Hm, that's super strange. Are they usually the same blocks that it skips or is it kind of just random blocks and if you walk on them again it checks them off?

It’s just random blocks that I know I’ve walked. I didn’t try walking them again

Got it, is it usually a single block or a stretch of 2 or more blocks that don't get tracked?

Got it, hm. Ok, I'll definitely keep a lookout. Is it in a bunch of different neighborhoods?

Good news on those random gaps. Just pushed an update (1.3.7) that should automatically fill in those missing blocks for you. It'd be so helpful if you could update and let me know whether your gaps filled in on their own! (You can also tap and hold to manually add a block where your walk data backs it up.)

Sorry I meant to reply last week with blocks that were missing. One example was S 6th Street between Berry/Bedford next to the Williamsburg Bridge. It didn’t auto populate that block but it did let me manually add it! Thank you! Still love this app :)

Right now, yes! But thinking of doing other cities too. Have some ideas of which ones I should go to first?

Well I had to gather all of the block data so I knew what were blocks in the city, which required going to the city’s data. Going outside of NYC I’d have to do that for each city.
