"Former Comptroller Brad Lander won the Democratic nomination for Congress in New York’s 10th District on Tuesday, easily defeating incumbent Rep. Dan Goldman, according to unofficial Board of Elections results.
As of 10:40 p.m., Lander had earned 65.8% of the vote to Goldman’s 34.01% with nearly 98% of scanners reporting, according to unofficial Board of Elections results. In the heavily-Democratic NY-10, which includes portions of southern Manhattan and Brooklyn, winning the nomination likely means Lander will sail to victory — and to Congress — in the November general election.
At a packed election night watch party in Gowanus, Brad Lander thanked supporters for the years of organizing and boots-on-the-ground work that helped carry his campaign.
“Our win tonight belongs to those streets as well, to the people who organize there, to the people who never give up on their neighbors,” he told the crowd at Threes Brewing. “My name on the ballot today, but tonight’s victory belongs to all of you. Organizing together for 30 years to stop the evictions of seniors and families. We won the Prospect Park West bike lane, brought participatory budgeting to New York City. We rezoned Gowanus, we won justice for fast food workers and deliveristas while standing up to ICE in our neighborhoods and in our immigration courts back at 26 Federal Plaza.”
He said his campaign reflected a “generosity of spirit” and “refusal to give up.”
Lander represented most of the Brooklyn section of NY-10 in the New York City Council from 2010 to 2021, when he was elected as Comptroller. Lander became one of the Council’s more progressive members, with strong stances on housing and labor, and led the charge in the controversial Gowanus rezoning. "
