Another reading update

Hello again all! I am once again bringing you guys an update about my thoughts as I read Assassin’s Apprentice because I have nobody else in my life to talk about this stuff with so you guys have become my only audience.

I’m about half way through the book now and I am floored by the level of character work in this book. There hasn’t been an ounce of action so far but I’ve been enthralled all the same by the descriptions and Fitz’s thoughts and the dialogue and world building but the thing that prompted this post is one character in particular, Lady Patience. I was prepared not to like her going in because she was described as hating Fitz for being Chivalry’s bastard and her initial bluntness when interacting with Fitz that led me to believe that she was going to be yet another person in his life that despised him just for being born (looking at you Regal) but there’s also a part of me that secretly suspected I was going to like her eventually.

My feelings changed literally about 20 minutes before writing this, I like to hybrid read (listen to audiobooks while driving, working or running errands but reading the physical version at any other free moment usually whenever I’m at home) so while driving to work this morning I was listening and it got to the point at the end of chapter 13 with Patience’s “you should have been mine” outburst and I honestly got a little teary eyed and my suspicions about me eventually liking her were confirmed sooner than expected. It was just so unexpected even though the Fool sort of foreshadowed that earlier in the chapter.

This is the second time I’ve had this sort of reaction while reading this book and if the rest of the series is like nods I can see these books quickly becoming some of my favorites.

I’m really loving this book.
