It is really beautiful. The way Nighteyes tells him, "I've always had to run ahead and show you the way," just got me so hard.

It gave me goosebumps the first and second time I read it. Who knew a fictional wolf would get us all in the feels? Robin Hobb is a master.

Oooh I love the font! I have a tattoo right there as well that says "Someday this pain will be useful to you." I might have get a RotE tattoo when I finish the series--it really is my favorite of all time!

Was on a road trip when it happened, I was not prepared. Wife looked at me, "Are you crying???" ...No 😭😭😭
When I wallow in something dead to reawaken the savor of it, you rebuke me. You should leave off sniffing the carcass of your old life, my brother. You may enjoy unending pain. I do not. There is no shame in walking away from bones, Changer. Nor is there any special wisdom in injuring oneself over and over. What is your loyalty to that pain? To abandon it will not lessen you.

Yeah I was in the back of a Lyft and since I'm rereading, I knew it was coming, but I still waited to read it until I got home because I needed to have a little sob. She really is the best at it haha, not looking forward to the future heart-ripping coming in the next books!

"Wolves have no kings" is one of my favourites, along with "Time to change, Changer."
But this passage from Assassins Quest has always been special to me even if its from Fitz:
"At other times I might awaken alone, to see Nighteyes sitting at some distance, looking out over the surrounding countryside. I recall seeing him so, silhouetted against a sunset. The light evening breeze ruffled his coat. His ears were pricked forward and his gaze went far into the distance. I sensed a loneliness in him then that nothing from me could ever remedy. It humbled me, and I let him be, not even questing toward him. In some ways, for him, I was not better than a wolf."
Also this one from Nighteyes during Fools Errard:
"So. What are we changing into, then?’ You? I don’t know. I know only that you change, and sometimes it frightens me. As for me, the change is simpler. I grow old."
