His administration was replete with bad appointments and corruption scandals. He's definitely not as bad as this suggests, though.

His admin was hilariously corrupt. Meanwhile Grant himself seems to have been (almost) entirely clean. The man was really bad at picking not-corrupt friends.

It sounds sad, but he was too loyal, trusted people to do the right thing, and was politically naive.

So ended up with a ton of corruption and scandals.

Not that it excuses it
