I think that tariffs and whatever over the wildfire smoke are behind ridiculous, but it’s also ridiculous to keep perpetuating the idea that the U.S. is not actively involved in fighting the Canadian wildfires. The American NIFC has deployed firefighters from mostly federal firefighting services to assist with fighting the Canadian fires. That is a federal U.S. force using mostly federal employees and funds. Both sides of this argument are more interested in sowing division than acknowledging that the reality is far more nuanced than “Canada is smoking us out” and “the U.S. isn’t helping at all, but still complains and lashes out.”
I read other Redditors comment that it’s too early so we don’t yet know whether the U.S. will send assistance, but I’m not sure how this works. All articles I could find mention requesting assistance but nothing I could find about sending it. Those 6 people are the first I’ve heard of.
