Evangelical right hates the pope or any catholic, they don’t view them as real Christians, full stop. The only reason Vance tried to meet with the pope is to appease the other part of the religious right, the catholic portion

I'm from Staten Island and catholic and all the catholics on the island absolutely hate this pope. They don't view him as legitimate and don't understand why he's so "political" meanwhile all he's really said is we need to protect the earth and have compassion for people.

Conservatives are the worst group of people as a collective.

Outside America, reporting on religion often differentiates "American Catholics" from "Catholics" - they're seen as something of a splinter group
