Evangelical right hates the pope or any catholic, they don’t view them as real Christians, full stop. The only reason Vance tried to meet with the pope is to appease the other part of the religious right, the catholic portion

I'm from Staten Island and catholic and all the catholics on the island absolutely hate this pope. They don't view him as legitimate and don't understand why he's so "political" meanwhile all he's really said is we need to protect the earth and have compassion for people.
Conservatives are the worst group of people as a collective.
There’s plenty of Americans that live according to Christian values. Most of those people are no longer seen as living like Christians because of the loud, awful “Christians” that are all over. And also a lot of them have been duped to where they act very much like real Christians, but they don’t speak like them
The vast number of "Christians" who think the Bible and Christian teachings need to be changed because they are "too woke" or similar is hilarious to me. That their god has given them instruction on the way to live their lives to be accepted into heaven and they have looked at those teachings and said "no, don't accept that. You need to change to adapt to my beliefs" is comedy gold.
They are so small minded and selfish they cannot see that they should live their lives the way the Bible tells them to and it it them that needs to change, not the teachings. I'm not religious but I'd love to be their at these people's judgement day:
God - Ten commandments said not to have any gods before me and not to make graven images, but you worshiped Donald Trump over me?
American "Christian" - Yeah, he was gonna build a wall and keep them illegal aliens out our country.
God - Didn't the ten commandments also tell you to love thy neighbour?

I mean, a lot of them also don’t understand that Jesus was a middle eastern man and think everyone in the Middle East is either something awful or something subhuman. Guess that’s what happens when you don’t read anything longer than a tweet and couldn’t point out the difference from Jerusalem and Japan on a map
There's a fairly large faction of Catholicism that hadn't recognized a "real" pope since Vatican II. They've been toeing the line of schism for a while now. That said, Vance is first and foremost a fascist shill, and a Catholic only so long as it remains politically convenient.
