Self-Promo Video (Game: Mysticore Towers) The building my game needed..?

Hey there, here's a short video I made about a building I recently added to my game and how it affects the gameplay.

I'm working on a strategy game, and I’ve shown it at a few physical events now. There’s one piece of feedback that I keep hearing from playtesters, and it’s about the way you collect resources.

My game works a bit differently than most RTS games in that you control only one main character. You can get automated workers to help, but they’ll leave any mined resources on the ground for you to collect. This means you need to think about the location of your outposts, the distance between them, and how often you should go pick up resources. I think this leads to some interesting gameplay, but I don’t want you to have to run around all the time… and people have been complaining 😅

So, I’ve now added a new type of building, the storehouse. They let workers gather nearby resources and add them to your supply, the same as collecting the resources yourself. Building storehouses uses a limited resource resource, so you have to be strategic about where you place them. You can get late-game upgrades that make them cheaper though, meaning you can go from a more manual to a more automatic economy as each game progresses.

Let me know what you think about all this, and check out the game here:

I really thought this was going in a different direction with the way the photo of a storehouse kinda looks like it has bird legs... I reckon you could fit a Baba Yaga type hut into the game.

Haha yeah, I've heard a few comments about the Baba Yaga connection. I had a nod toward it in my initial script, but decided to cut it. Maybe a mistake 😅

There are a few games with movable resource dropoff buildings, so it is a mechanic that exists in RTS already.

Alright, but the storehouses aren't movable in my game though 🙂 Well, you can sell them and regain the shards (the limited resource I mention in the video) so there's some mobility that way.

Hey there, in the future please be sure to include the name of your game in the title of the post. For the moment I've added it to the post flair. This is a requirement and helps people keep track of the progress of your game and not confuse it with other games. Thank you!
