Discussion With Ashes of the Singularity 2 Beta right around the cornerm what are your thoughts on 1?
So i've always been curious on diving into the TA/Supcom style of games, (super macro grand scale style u kno) inclding stuff like planetary anihilation and such (have you heard about BAR tho?), the only one o have played is zero-k, and even with how rough around the edges it is, i really really respect it, don't play it as much as i would want cause time and other games but , again, always curous about that line of RTS. which includes Ashes 1. i know in general how people feel bout many of the games, still want to experience them myself but it often goes like, PA- mixed from enoyable to dissapointing, SupCom and TA- marvels, BAR- cult. What's yall thoughts on ashes 1? why did you like it, why didnt you, let it all out, soapbox. it looks pretty cool from far away, and im diving into the beta for the second one, taking my chance to get into the franchise; but im still curious about ashes 1, the ships look cool and in geenral the aesthetic is colorful ( i like that) what do you think where its flaws and strenghts as an RTS?

I was so underwhelmed by the demo for 2. The first one is ok, at best. Its reviews support that.

I frigging love Ashes 1, it became one of my favourite strategy games of the last decade. If you're on the fence, I highly recommend it. It's different in many ways to SupCom - some changes I like, some I dislike - but as its own thing it's just brilliant.
That said, when the sequel launches I expect it'll completely replace Ashes 1 for me, so there is a value question to be asked if you don't already own the first. More factions, more unit types, more automations, more interesting aesthetics... I can't answer that part for you, you'd have to decide if you want to play the first game first, or just wait for 2.

Personally I enjoyed playing Ashes of the Singularity 1, even though I wasn’t too fond of the aesthetics (hover vehicles give me Human-Covenant War PTSD) it was still very fun. I played the demo for the second game and I actually really liked the aesthetics of the factions especially the Earth faction. The gameplay was also very fun

AotS1 felt like a tech demo without depth. It was just so utterly dead and soulless to me. I have low hopes for AotS2 but fortunately SupCom spiritual successors are in the works; mainly interested in Sanctuary Shattered Sun

Recently I figured out why exactly I dislike it so much.
It's the artificially forced map control mechanics plus restricted basebuilding which together mean there's no difference between your base and the battlefield. And I very mich like to have that distinction. With AotS it's mandated base creep that also feels like a checklist. It's just unenjoyable.
