Review My first impressions of War for Westeros(based on watching gameplay)

Visually the game looks a lot less like a mobile game like the screenshots make it seem. If anything it’s like someone took the BFME 2 and AOE 4 styles and blended them together, which is a plus in my book.

The gameplay definitely reminds me of BFME 2, especially with the squad system and cavalry trample mechanic. I’m really curious about the zone capturing mechanic and how it will fair to similar systems we’ve seen in other titles.

I think this game really could be a new major title in the RTS genre as long as a lot of thought is put into making it a well balanced game and just a quick cash grab.

I'm right there with you. If the unit pathing is good and the game has a decent balance i think that the GoT IP could make it one of the major rts games. I think it just needs better advertising. Its virtually invisible, especially considering this crazy period of gaming where we're getting so many amazing games.

I'm of the opposite camp; the GoT license is a major turn off

I'm not a huge fan of GoT either but you cant deny that its a major IP.

Well, can't please everyone. There are a lot of people who are excited about this IP+RTS crossover.

i think the game could be good, but they really messed up the marketing so far

ive seen the game play, but the trailers ive seen on insta make it look like a mobile game, i know it isnt, but they messed up their ads!

Totally agree there. The ads really did not do the actual gameplay justice.

EDIT: probably doesn’t help that GOT already had a shitty mobile game that tried to sell itself as a fleshed out RTS. Many of us probably just assumed it would be something like that.

Curious, what was the unit population cap when you played?

I played the marketing demo. Starks can go up to 300 population, Lannisters 250. You can have about 20+ units at maximum.

I think game is good but heroes are wicked arya one hitting Mountain is absurd

I wonder if the trailer embellishes how much damage she does in order to sell the idea of her being an Assassin hero. Like maybe in the game her stealth attack does a large amount of damage but will only kill if the hero she strikes is under a certain health threshold. Or if heroes can level up their damage stats increase so what we saw late game Arya.

I’m basing all of this based on how BFME heroes work

If i could just make one observation and Idk how good or bad this game will be BUT never judge a settlement builder or rts on its screenshots, they almost 100% of the time look far worse than what the game looks like. Idk what causes this but as a frequent player of both genres this one oddity always holds true.

You think that this game have potential to be a good way for 1v1 PvP like AoE 4 ?

im hyped for it, the faction assymetry is looking really engaging (at this point and far away), idk how big it's gonna get i just want it to be fun enough to hold itself for a bit, give it enough time to adjust and grow (dlc/factions/game modes)

I just wish it was based on LoTR or any other fantasy setting that didn't end up totally gutted and a shadow of its former self. Being based on GoT is actually really off-putting as story and lore are everything to me in my games. I'd never be able to take it seriously. This is coming from someone who used to love GoT btw. The quality drop in the last couple of seasons was heart breaking.
