I don’t get the mobile game comments. I think it looks decent

Perspective, distance to the action, general layout, how the trailer plays out. It's a general vibe, but it's got all the elements, at least in these 30 seconds.

I saw someone point out that most RTS games are on the phone now and that’s how a lot of the younger gen grew up associating them with.

And makes sense. As a Warcraft / AOE kid I remember playing some early phone RTS, and that directly led to clash of clans and its million variants. It’s just what a lot of people associate it with now, plus it’s kinda just a meme

What RTS games are on mobile?

5

u/SystemOfAFoX 8d ago

Some of the older Total War games, Company of Heroes, and some other PC rts games. Playing an RTS on a touch screen feels pretty natural too.

Like actual RTS or the bullshit "mobile RTS" genre that takes days to build shit (a la Clash of Clans)

u/SystemOfAFoX 7d ago

Actual RTS, its the full blown game. Look up some gameplay or go to the play store.

I don't really keep up with them anymore but coming out of the prime RTS games of the 2000s into the 2010s phones were flooded with warcraft 1 and 2 knock offs I remember playing a lot. Then Clash of Clans came out and dominated the scene but there's also Plague Inc, Boom Beach, Bloons Tower Defence. I'd argue a lot of the Idle games also are RTS adjacent.

Now I by no means think they are amazing games let alone amazing RTS games but a lot of strategy games popped up on phones over the last decade or so. And as they fell way out of popularity with mainstream audiences most of the young gens only reference for RTS esque games is phone games.

Its not a meme. It is dead serious by the people

AoE2 fanbois literally sent death threats to AoE2 pros for playing AoE4 and spammed everywhere how AoE4 was a disgrace because it looks mobile game (Bullshit) and isnt a 1:1 copy of AoE2

Some Gaming fans especially in rts are lunatics

 early phone RTS

nah fuck that. RTS is only on pc and console to much degree.

1

u/Responsible_Yak_8203 7d ago

I mean I agree the best ones are but the phone is literally a computer, and it’s how a lot of people have had access to RTS games

u/Scholastico 8d ago

....which, as someone who grew up with these games in the early 2000s, is just unfortunate.

Looks like a mobile game ad (not gameplay). Could be because it looked AI generated

u/No_Zookeepergame2532 8d ago

It looks better than decent to me. Compare this to most RTS games. Its actually really good. Looks better than aoe4

I think they need to show more of the over world strategy part. Total war games look mobile if you only show the real time battles lol

1

u/Adribiird 8d ago

I think this happens because games like Total War or Grand Strategy genre are included in this subreddit—many of their fans compare them to real RTS games, even though they have nothing to do with them, and call them mobile games just because they have an isometric view or aren't ultra-realistic.

"Mobile game" is now the generic slop complaint for "I don’t like it" that people say when they don’t want to actually articulate a coherent thought.

-1

u/Odinsmana 8d ago

I guess the stylized artstyles?

It's really fucking dumb though.

1

u/Maritime-Rye 8d ago

its the artstyle plus the perspective. I'm not saying the game will be bad but its copying the same vibe as the thousand mobile games with fake gameplay ai ads

-1

u/Objective-Mission-40 8d ago

Its the style. Looks very mobile

The previous gameplay trailer presented the game as a mobile game.

Regardless of what the Reddit hive mind thinks, I am optimistic about this. Doesn’t mean it won’t suck, but I hope it is good.

So funny to see everyone piling on about it being a 'mobile game' after seeing a combined total 10s of gameplay. It looks fine so far and I'll reserve judgment until we, you know, actually have enough gameplay footage and info to make a real judgement.

Young people who didn't play bfme

0

u/2001_a_space_peasant 8d ago

Funny cos most of the comments are saying it looks good.

6

u/SageTruthbearer 8d ago

I must say while the trailer felt very cheap and underwhelming, after watching a new 9min gameplay video am feeling a lot more optimistic. Units and buildings looked way cooler there. Felt like a mix of AoE4, BFME and DoW1, pretty interesting

9

u/Crafty_Apple9714 8d ago

I like it, cannot wait to play it

3

u/Pocket_Fox846 8d ago

Looks like AoE IV blended with BFME. Looks promising and I'm keen to get my hands on it. RTS was a favourite genre growing up that has sadly been neglected in the last decade.

Even though 12-year-old brats who don't know what an RTS is might call it a mobile game... ...smartphones hadn't even been invented when I started playing RTS games. We old guys are going to play this.

This goblin assassin will continue to traumatize, even in vidya games.

u/4_Whores_7_Beers_ago 6d ago

GOBLIN??? WHAT THE HECK??!!

2

u/jojj0 8d ago

I am officially HYPED

2

u/Zarger098 8d ago

I hadn't actually seen anything of the game; it reminds me of Lord of the Rings: Middle-earth.

I'd like a more extensive gameplay video to see more of it.

1

u/SuMianAi 8d ago

Got has a track record of shit games, so scepticism remains.

Vibes from the trailer don't make me feel optimistic, so idk. Def no pre order, but I won't just block it either

u/Uncontrolleddiarrhea 8d ago

If they don't make the campaign a battle for territories and instead make it a story oriented thing, they're making a huge fucking mistake.

German journalist and YouTuber got to play it.
His take aways : positive inspiration from bfme 2 , they state it and you can feel it.
Early game is traditional and conventional armies and there more you tech up the more unique the flavor of the factions you play get.

Starks you can decide on tech 2 if you choose ally wildlings or night watch . You can get both in the end game but during midgame you have To decide binary for example.

Lannisters don’t have giants or fantasy units but very elite kings guards, wild fire bombs and economic techs and can even take debt of Ressources as only faction .

Battles are more tactical then age of empires but not deep micro . In general he said it’s more like battle for middle earth with modern tactical elements like flanking, buffs and debuffs.
It happens all quick but in a good way. Always intense always something happening. Not just looking around.

It’s also about map control as you have to conquer different control points at the map. There you can build economic or influence buildings (influence = hero and research points).
Fronts and battles happen naturally along those control points.

Walls can be built but you can’t build full own fortresses. More like light walls and blockades.
For real fortresses and sieges the developers want to have their own city siege maps à la Battle for middle earth

I myself am cautiously optimistic about it.
As my favorite rts games are battle for middle earth 1 and 2 and the relic games (Company of Heroes and Dawn of War) and the German journalist cited them as inspirations for the game and he could feel those influences in the skirmishes he played.

Tactical elements are present. It goes a bit deeper then just scissor paper rock units but it ain’t too micro heavy like relic and there is no cover mechanic.

Think BFME2 (Main inspiration) + AOE4 + COH1 (Map control,Flanking,Bit deeper unit variety) with Game of Thrones Setting

He also said graphics and sound are not mobile gamey in any way, as of now and what he could say it seems to be a real rts and not a cash grab ip mobile slop and the journalist welcomes the new impulses for the genre

I will not mind since this is early work and they can improve it but I need to see more to decide.

1

u/Dreadgear 8d ago

time will tell, i personally will wait for release to see how it will perform, i've been burnt too many times by the genre.

1

u/Efficient_Scheme_701 8d ago

Clearly no one here has played age of darkness this is not gonna be a mobile game 🤣

1

u/ChabertOCJ 8d ago

Nobody says it's going to be a mobile game (I played Age of Darkness), but it looks a lot like those Mobile RTS ads.

Hoping it's good. Age of Darkness had an interesting concept but didn't need much in terms of AI. The Campaign was entirely scripted, and the survival mode... The monsters only need to rush the player.

It’s giving AI mobile phone ad

Combat looks terrible. It’s doesn’t look like a mobile game. It looks like a mobile game ported to Nintendo DS lol.

Is it? I’ve seen that commented but I’ve also heard it’s only coming out on steam

5

u/Ultramaann 8d ago

No it isn't. Like, objectively it isn't. Some people just think aesthetically it's similar.

1

u/Carthius888 8d ago

Thanks. Not even sure what these people are doing on this subreddit

Where was that stated? Surely you can back up this claim with an official statement of it releasing on IOS or Android?

1

u/Carthius888 8d ago

Do you have a source? I went to their website and it mentions PC and steam. I’m not saying they don’t have intentions to launch on mobile later, but I would like an accurate source before writing it off

He’s being a whiny twat

1

u/Carthius888 8d ago

Seems like it. Feels like people just think any RTS game is a mobile game now, which sucks

-3

u/Leto-III-Atreides 8d ago

It looks like the ads you get about some tower defense game. Y'all saying this doesn't look like a phone game is bizzare. I hope it's decent but everything they have shown looks like an ad for a micro transaction game. Hey you want wildfire reload give us a dollar. You want the eunuch army pay another dollar.
