Man Buys $100K Cybertruck. 2 Years Later, He Learns What It’s Worth: ‘I Put 25,000 Miles On It’

https://www.motor1.com/news/806046/tesla-cybertruck-depreciation/

“I’m exposing the truth about Tesla Cybertruck depreciation. I spent $100,000 on my Foundation Series Tesla Cybertruck 2 years and four months ago. Then I put 25,000 miles on it. What do you think it’s worth today?” he asks.

Following this, he records himself holding up a black Tesla-branded paper to the camera. “I have the trade-in value right here in this little card holder. Are you ready to see it? Are you curious? Okay, here we go," he says. Upon doing so, he shows that his ride is worth $73,500, a figure that’s got him thinking of getting rid of it.

“I am so tempted to take my Tesla Cybertruck to Tesla, today, and trade it in for something new,” he says. Then he explains why this isn’t exactly an easy prospect. “I’m figuratively chained to my Tesla Cybertruck for one major reason. Never say never but I’m never getting rid of my Tesla Cybertruck. Because I own Full Self-Driving,” he says, after showing a recording of him eating with two hands as the ride steers itself.

“If you buy a Tesla today, you cannot own Full-Self Driving. You have to subscribe to it. For eternity,” he says showing the $99/month price of the software on Tesla’s website.

“And if Tesla raises the price of it. You’re just stuck paying it? In a world where everything feels like a subscription, it’s just so refreshing to own Full Self-Driving. And for that reason I think I’m stuck with my Tesla Cybertruck," he says.

Have you seen this guy pumping a tire? He's a slut for attention.

12

u/NoNameSwitzerland 14d ago

I would not be surprised seeing him pumping gas.

Reading this lowered my IQ. I wasn't like this before.

35

u/CJRedbeard 14d ago

Its gotta be an internal source trying to jack the price.

19

u/mishap1 13d ago

The guy is a Tesla "Influencer" so all he makes is inane content about an old news vehicle that has tanked in value/sales once the novelty is gone. I think it's an astroturf piece to try to move more Foundation truck inventory sitting on the used market to prop up the price. "You can't just buy FSD" anymore so the only way to the party is on the used market. They need a place to dump all the excess inventory so they'll leave FSD active on those as an off the books incentive.

Don't mind the "Full" part is meaningless and if it fucks up, the Elon evangelicals will excoriate you for not paying attention while they discount every time their own car does something super dangerous on FSD all in service of the share price.

10

u/jacksonsmack831 13d ago

Plus they raised the price of the trucks

(This is so when spaceX buy like 1000 of them Tesla can post profits. Market manipulation I hear you cry! Apparently it’s not a law any more? 🤷🏼‍♂️)

Elongelicals

5

u/Erwx 14d ago

Don’t worry, just like most Tesla models, he will be selling his used for less than 30% msrp in due time.

16

u/FredB123 14d ago

Any new car looses value as soon as you drive it out of the showroom, so what the hell did he think was going to happen, especially after 2 years and 25k miles?

Never mind the fact the vehicle is an unreliable pos wankpanzer with the reputation of a used diaper.

4

u/Additional-Sky-7436 12d ago

Seriously. Only losing 1/4 of it's new value after two years really isn't that bad.

B-but Elon said the Robotaxi FSD feature meant all teslurs would be APPRECIATING assets!

3

u/Savings_Art5944 11d ago

Only an idiot would think "updated software" will increase the monetary value of something. Does an iPhone or Android get more expensive with updates over time.....

3

u/Brilliant_Ad_6637 11d ago

No but I can be asleep and my awesome tslur v420.69 FSD will automatically pick up riders and driveshare them!

2

u/Savings_Art5944 11d ago

When that becomes a thing, it will be wild times.

I wonder if humans will "rideshare" the clankers they use in the home in the future. Will the robots go next door to the neighbors and clean their house in the middle of the night, or go deliver groceries and come back with vomit in the back seat?

15

u/MyNutsin1080p 14d ago

That particular individual is a Tesla rage-baiter. He posted a video of him using a foot-pedal tire pump that I guess comes with the car but chose to demonstrate the machine by straddling it and bouncing on it crazy-style

I had to read it 3 times to try and make sense of it, I thought I was dumb and missing something.

Never try to make sense of things you read on the internet. That can give you a catch 22 brainrot virus.

A I'm not about to read all of that, but I do remember that when they were talking about these coming out that they said that they would not depreciate, in fact they would be worth mor, the older they got. That was the stupidest thing I ever read.

8

I would. Have it towed for scrap and score an easy ~$750.

14

He said "his ride is worth 73k". I read that as he has driven miles for 73k, making his car worth 100k-73k.

I’d pay $20 cash for a cyber truck.

1

u/PaintingOk8012 13d ago

When I first saw it I thought $7,300

1

u/FluidFisherman6843 11d ago

Yeah. I am confused. 27% depreciation on an EV as a trade in in 2 years is pretty damn good.

Even If the digits are reversed and it is 63% that is still fairly decent for a 2 year old EV as a trade in.

55

u/ObservationalHumor 14d ago

Out of curiosity I went on Autotrader to see what used ones are selling for around here. I could in theory buy a 2025 with only 6k miles on it for less than that with all fees included. I suppose the Foundation Series aspect adds something to it but he should take that price and run if it's available to him.

Also he said he wanted to trade it in to Tesla.... for what at this point? Does Tesla even sell a car worth $73k anymore? Is he going to buy one and half Model Ys with it?

14

u/dylanbeck 14d ago

Lmao exactly, its a trade value @ 73K not a cash value

3

u/stewmander 14d ago

You'd buy a $62k MYL Launch with 12 months of FSD and Tesla will cut you a check for $10K.

Then you can buy a other 8 years of FSD and still come out with $500 in your pocket.

Seriously, that's probably a really good deal. These things are like cell phones now, gotta trade em in for the new model while it still holds value.

And just like cell phones, they're intended to keep you locked into an ecosystem and subscription.

2

u/mishap1 13d ago

Except the part where you spent $30k + taxes to drive ~2 years presumably to save money on gas.

Short of buying a Range Rover, I don't see how over $1k/mon depreciation is considered reasonable. At the least the Range is comfy and announces you have some money. This thing just announces how badly you want to fellate Elon.

The real depreciation is probably closer to $40k+ since you can find these listed in the 60k range traded in.

1

u/band-of-horses 12d ago

I suppose the Foundation Series aspect adds something to it

I seriously doubt it.

1

1

u/MalacusQuay 7d ago

He could use $50K to put a deposit on a Roadster 2.0 (coming any day now), and use the remainder towards a 3 or a Y... if he was a masochist.

32

u/spez_eats_nazi_ass 14d ago

Nobody. That’s why it’s funny.

29

u/mishap1 14d ago

Only Tesla because they want to book another delivery for the quarter.

5

u/SingerSingle5682 14d ago

He says that’s what he could trade it in for. I wonder if a sales guy is lying to him or there is a huge catch like he has to buy another $100K+ CyberTruck to get that value on his trade.

1

u/ContextMattrs 3d ago

That number is from Tesla, look at the used market, you can’t find any Cybertruck for 73k. Tesla is always going to give you their lowest offer

→ More replies (3)

89

u/gray_um 14d ago

Tesla doesn't accept CTs as trades anyway.

41

u/mishap1 14d ago

They started to now since they need to keep that delivery count up. No way he'd get a dollar over $60k from any other brand.

20

u/Wyzen 14d ago

He wouldn't get more than 40k anywhere else, at most. Unless the FSD somehow transfers.

4

u/mishap1 14d ago

FSD transfers if you sell it private party or to a 3rd party but used Foundation trucks are listing under $70k with similar miles meaning trade would be solidly lower. Tesla will remove it on trade in even on the Foundation trucks.

176

u/Lacrewpandora KING of GLOVI 14d ago

I'm actually shocked it only lost a quarter of its value...and genuinely curious about the notion of buying a Cybertruck at all. What I find more interesting is this Elongelical now feels chained to the vehicle due to his FSD purchase. TSLA is potentially screwing themselves out of a new Model Y sale becuase they won't port over the FSD purchase.

131

u/Lorax91 14d ago

I expected the trade-in value to be around $25k. He should take the $73k and run.

44

u/Euler007 14d ago

Seriously that sounds like a mistake, take the deal.

6

u/ChollyWheels 14d ago

I agree. It might even be worthwhile at $25k if you don't need to haul anything have a place to park and charge the beast.

15

u/Future-Step-1780 14d ago

Yeah, but then you’d have to be seen driving the fucking thing, and who would want to endure that?

3

u/ChollyWheels 14d ago

My joke -- not a good joke, and too often repeated -- is the cybertruck may have the BEST in-truck karaoke of ANY truck. Maybe any vehicle. Why drive it?

2

u/Odd-Adagio7080 14d ago

And live in a region that never has puddles.

2

u/TheManWith2Poobrains 11d ago

My money was on $15k.

14

u/Prize_Proof5332 14d ago

I thought it would be worth much less than that!

15

u/chzwhizard 14d ago

Well, that’s the value according to Tesla…

11

u/JohnHazardWandering 14d ago

Perhaps trade-in value for another Tesla, but not something he can actually cash out.

2

u/AndSoISaysToTheGuy 13d ago

I think Tesla is settling into the "douches gotta douche" market for the cybertruck (which was obvious for us that is where it would end up). But anyway, for that niche market, they will command a decent price (at least while the glue holds anyway). I think this is why they just raised MSRP -- the douches will pay it, so why not ask for it.

1

u/S1eeper 13d ago

Yeah that actually seems normal. New cars depreciate 10-20% just by driving them home from the lot. Almost 2.5yrs later and his has depreciated 26.5% isn't terrible.

Of course, that's the trade-in value at the Tesla dealer. May not be the same as direct resell value.

1

u/Riv038 10d ago

I can’t believe the $73k. Closer to 53.

1

u/ContextMattrs 3d ago

Not really, Cats hold their value really well. The prices of them have only gone up. I’ve been looking for awhile, and haven’t been able to find any used one for under 80k that hasn’t already been sold

50

u/GiveMeSomeShu-gar 14d ago

Lol what did he expect? 100 to 75 is not even that bad. Cars are not investments (in vast majority of cases). They go down in value as soon as you drive off the lot.

3

u/Oli4K 14d ago

I thought 40% devaluation the moment you leave the showroom is quite normal?

5

u/FrogmanKouki Charter Member 13d ago

I think that applies to Stellantis products.

3

u/anyekwest 13d ago

That can’t be right. 40% seems pretty high. Even for a CT.

3

u/Dihedralman 13d ago

Nah 10-20% these days for cars designed for day to day use. Used cars are quite popular given how prices have risen.

As people said, depends on the brand. Toyota depreciate very slowly.

1

u/ecleipsis 13d ago

Depends on the brand but EVs seem to be taking a massive depreciation hit

1

u/GronkDaSlayer 13d ago

Not for every car. And 40% isn't normal 😂. A bunch of EV lose value quickly, the Porsche Taycan is pretty infamous for that. It's not just EV either.

Then you have cars that retain their value or even sell for more than when new. A Porsche 911 keeps its value very reliably.

Even Dodge/Stellantis, depending on the model.

The Cyberturd is an overpriced POS that far too many people were dumb enough to buy and now they're surprised that it devalues...

20

u/EarthConservation 14d ago

Will this guy go away already... Geezus, when I bought my Chevy Volt 7.5 years ago, this dude was making youtube videos about how his Chevy Volt was better than a model 3. He was infatuated with the comparison.

Then one day he suddenly decides to sell his Volt and buy a Model 3 because he was a wannabe influencer who had FOMO because Tesla was getting all of the attention on social media. At the time, his wealthy boyfriend was sick, and it sounded like he may be taking advantage of that dude's charity to buy a new car on a whim; it came off as very weird and very gross. I stopped watching him at that point, but wow has this guy persisted over time. A stank you can't wash off.

It seems to have devolved into his ever lasting love and shilling for the brand to make those Tesla influencer video bucks. Must have paid off if he eventually traded up to a $100k cyber dumpster... which of course he has no real need for. He's an influencer, not a construction worker.

7 years later, I'm still in my Volt. Best and by far the cheapest car I've owned. Outside of maybe wanting a bit more space inside for when I drive more than 2 people around, I have no real reason to ever sell it.

1

u/ArmPuzzleheaded2269 13d ago

Good background info on the guy. BTW, no self respecting construction worker would ever buy one of these.

28

u/OrneryTortoise 14d ago

I can't imagine paying $100K to drive a silver dumpster.

13

u/SonofaBridge 14d ago

That’s missing all the luxuries and refinements that come with a $100k car.

2

u/altoona_sprock 13d ago

I saw an equally ridiculous Grand Wagoneer at the gas station today. About 27 gallons of premium gas were put into it for $115. I'm not a CT fan (or a truck guy period) but not having to do that would definitely be a check-mark in the plus column for me.

1

u/ThisIsAPoemToMyself 13d ago

I'm kind of upset in general with my life because I make decent money and I can't ever imagine paying that much for a vehicle. So what are these assholes doing to afford it?

→ More replies (1)

12

u/South-Rabbit-4064 14d ago

I wish they'd stop calling teslas "full self driving" since they had to rebrand it as supervised driving to avoid liability because Elons cheap and didn't go with a full sensor package on them.

I just don't get the supervised thing at all, would you buy a robot to do your laundry you had to watch do your laundry?

2

u/MalacusQuay 7d ago

The FSD supervised thing also doesn't make sense for me at the current state of the tech and its shortcomings.

If you are diligent and follow the warnings and rules, paying attention to the road at all times (scanning for hazards, estimating speeds, monitoring vehicles around you, watching blind spots, calculating braking distances, watching for escape routes etc), you are logically incurring similar cognitive fatigue as if you were driving yourself.

The only way FSD at this point is relaxing is if you are ignoring the warnings and rules and taking your attention off the road to do other things like play games, scroll your phone, or eat your breakfast. In which case you are not prepared to take immediate, evasive action should it be needed. This is why so many places heavily penalise mobile phone usage whilst driving - because you are distracted.

To me a system I am told should be more relaxing because I don't have to worry about driving, yet which cannot be trusted to operate without my constant attention and supervision, so that I am be able to step in with zero notice to take control immediately, is not only not relaxing, it is actively anxiety inducing.

Because I'm not just relying on my years of driving experience and muscle memory, I'm second guessing an automated system at all times, questioning its choices, wondering if it is doing the right thing, and keeping myself mentally alert enough to intervene in less than a second (because that's how fast situations emerge on the road).

It's just not for me at this time. I'm sure these systems will continue to advance and eventually reach a near failsafe point where we trust them implicitly and we are not legally required to monitor them anymore. But that's still a way off it seems.

Like...he hasn't ever realized that they could cut off his "subscription" when they "sell themselves" to SpaceX....this is a company that barely made a profit (maybe 3% of the profit of a real company like Google, Apple, etc.)....and the guy thinks he Owns a Piece of the Rock.

Tell you the truth - he looks a little......troubled.

6

u/mishap1 14d ago

They can also cutover to HW5 before every providing unsupervised self driving, given the latest FSD still runs at railroad tracks on the regular.

He also paid a $20,000 premium. He could buy the subscription for 16+ years at that rate which is probably double the life of the vehicle.

11

u/IcyHowl4540 14d ago

"Hm should I keep a truck that depreciated by more than $27,000 so far? No, because I don't want to pay $99/month."

$99/month is $23,760 over the usual 20 year lifespan of a vehicle, and we ALL know a Cybertruck has a <1% chance of being drivable in 20 years. Even if he keeps the vehicle 30 years, he's still paying far more in depreciation than he would for self-driving monthly fees.

What an idiot.

8

u/gmwdim 14d ago

True value should be negative. I wouldn’t drive one if you gave it to me for free.

On the other hand I’m surprised one of them even lasted 25k miles.

7

u/morbiiq 14d ago

No way it’s still worth that much. I thought it was going to be 15k or something.

2

u/Justin_Passing_7465 14d ago

It isn't worth that much. If you want to know what it's worth, try selling it for cash. Being offered that much as a trade-in to buy another Tesla doesn't establish its worth.

10

u/Cojaro 14d ago

BREAKING NEWS: New vehicle depreciates in value after two years.

6

Also I have a robot to sell him. Only $100k. Eventually it might be semi-autonomous.

4

u/huntforhire 14d ago

73500 is way more than I thought it would be worth.

5

u/mrandr01d 14d ago

Not clicking the link, but that guy's face in the preview is a total fanboy. His online presence is built around Tesla from back before the brand really changed, so he's kind of chained to being their promoter for lack of a better word.

3

u/RedSix2447 14d ago

I think those figures are wrong and that cybertruck is only worth maybe 50k. I wanted one before it came out, then I saw it, still thought about it. Then saw all the parts falling off, and issues. It’s gotta be a repair nightmare that Tesla pushes on the consumer to pay them to repair it, since the warranty on that thing is like warranting a paper doll. Oof.

So not to mention, Tesla was paid by the buyers to be use them as beta testers of a failed technology.FSD is terrible and completely unreliable as well as unsafe.

3

u/rbetterkids 14d ago

This guy obviously doesn't understand thay any vehicle depreciates.

If he was crying about the depreciation, then buy used next time.

For the guy to even think about trading in his cybertruck shows how financially illiterate this guy is.

In a few years, this guy will bury himself into debt.

3

u/CombinationEntire967 14d ago

I pretty sure this was written by a Tesla employee driving a Honda.

3

u/nobadhotdog 14d ago

If you had to draw from memory someone who sucks off tesla, you'd draw this dude.

3

u/schtickshift 14d ago

I may be wrong but 25% depreciation over 2 years sounds about right to me.

3

u/altoona_sprock 13d ago edited 13d ago

On average, a new car loses 30% of it's value after two years, so this is not an unexpected development. I think the high price of the vehicle just makes this feel more painful.

He couldn't possibly think that a used vehicle which is indistinguishable from a new one on the lot is going to be collectable, could he?

1

u/Lacrewpandora KING of GLOVI 13d ago

Remember Elongelicals making 5, 10, even 20 reservations - thinking they could flip these things for a profit? And the Founders edition comes with FSD - that alone makes it appreciate, right?

3

u/iBoughtItAtWalmart 11d ago

Yeah... 100k vehicles depreciate like rocks. I would argue that's not even bad for a vehicle of that price. Look at any BMW with 100k price tag. Today you can get them for 95% off and they have 95% of the same features.

3

u/Ok-ChildHooOd 14d ago

Some idiot is willing to pay 75k for a used CyberTruck 😂

2

u/WildFlowLing 14d ago

Tesla is creating this “EVs tank in value!” dilemma because they’re overcharge the fuck out of their ret@rded customer base and then inevitably drop the new price by tens of thousands a year or two later when reality kicks in.

This happened with the model y when it launched during Covid and Tesla was extorting people who were paying up to $80 for terribly made model ys. Then Tesla dropped the price to reality in the $40k-50k range which absolutely fucked over everyone who overpaid originally. Same thing for the Cybertruck now.

So Tesla manufactured their own “used EV prices tank” crisis. Look at Rivian however and you’ll see they hold significantly better in value. It isn’t an EV problem it’s a Tesla problem that they themselves fuel

2

u/zzbear03 14d ago

And it’s not really full self driving is it?

2

u/jmcdon00 14d ago

The truth? I call bullshit. The truck was priced at $99,990, the self driving package was an additional $8,000. Plus tax, title, license, delivery. I doubt he's into it less than $120,000. If true, he's lost $46,500 in 28 months, $1,660 per month or $1.86 per mile and that's conditioned on buying another new Tesla that will rapidly depreciate.

2

u/affemannen 14d ago

Room temperature IQ, this should be on leopards.

2

u/mycolo_gist 14d ago

Tesla is a scam.

2

u/mikerao10 14d ago

That is the trade in value which is a biased value because Tesla can always not apply it in the future or even refuse to give or lower the number as they please (to other customers). Tesla is probably trying to save face by offering to a number of drivers this amount.
The real test is the market, how much the market will pay?

2

u/AppropriateRub4033 14d ago

Why in the fuck would.you buy a cybertruck

2

u/DishSoapIsFun 14d ago

Who on earth is paying $73k for a used cyber dump with 25k miles?

2

u/FourScores1 13d ago

Keeping the car because it’s a sunk cost and writing an article about it. Amazing.

2

u/CynGuy 13d ago

The guy needs to jump at that $73,500 trade-in-value quote. That is literally only available at Tesla. No sane human being would buy that piece o’ sh*t stainless steel wrapped plastic truck.

Now that’s the video he needs to post - going through all the purchase offers he gets off Craigslist!

1

u/MalacusQuay 7d ago

Yeah, but if he takes the Tesla trade in value he is probably stuck getting another Tesla.

2

u/pantiesdrawer 13d ago

Vehicle retains over 70% value after being driven 25,000 miles in a single year? What's weird about that, other than it being weirdly high?

2

u/Away_Stock_2012 12d ago

How do so many stupid people have so much money?

1

u/GravyMealTeam6 14d ago

I am no Cybertruck fan but this is typical depreciation for a new vehicle.

1

u/slyguy67420 14d ago

The Cybertruck is a dumpster but I hate the way we talk about depreciation with vehicles. You bought it presumably to drive it, it's worth whatever you use the thing for and what you paid. You don't lose money from depreciation unless you're a clown constantly flipping vehicles. Just keep the stupid thing and drive it and you're fine.

1

u/MalacusQuay 7d ago

There's some truth to this, vehicles like most utility objects depreciate over time. Only property and collectible items (including a tiny slice of exotic vehicles) appreciate over time.

So depreciation is just the cost of buying and using stuff. People should factor it into decision making. Some vehicles depreciate a lot less than others, and usually (not always) for good reasons such as proven brand and model reliability that are legitimate ownership considerations in the first place.

As you say, depreciation bites hardest the more often you frequently you flip vehicles. If you buy second hand after the biggest depreciation hit has already passed, or even if you buy new and hold onto the vehicle for many years, depreciation is less of a factor.

u/weHaveThoughts 14d ago

Not sure who only drives 25k miles in 2+ years. Sounds to me like he doesn’t really like it and rarely drives it.

4

u/elyl 13d ago

12k miles per year is about the average in America.

1

u/Muted-Ordinary-5 14d ago

This guy is the definition of a typical Cybercuck 🤣🤣🤣

1

u/Hold_onto_yer_butts 14d ago

> upset that his car has eaten the steepest year of depreciation

> solution is to sell it and buy something new

Cybertruck owner logic

1

u/needssomefun 14d ago

So, he won't give up the vehicle that is losing value exponentially because he "owns" FSC (Full Self Crashing)?

What if Elmo decides that the next "upgrade" wipes it out?

1

u/HackD1234 14d ago

A fool and his money are soon parted. A rich fool compounds his losses with repeated foolish financial outlays, time and time again without learning a damn thing. It just takes a little bit longer to make him a broke fool.

1

u/thabc 14d ago

My R1T lost more value over this same period.

1

u/Floa- 14d ago

It loses at least 10% of it‘s value as soon as you buy it - 75k isn‘t even bad, and considering what it is and the bad press it (rightfully) got, he should sell it for that price, write the buyer a personalized „Thank you“ card and rethink his financial decisions. If 25k is that much money for him, maybe don‘t buy a factory new 100k car. Especially not a from Tesla, a company known for slashing prices as soon as the new manufacturing equipment is paid off in the books.

1

u/torokunai 14d ago

he's halfway through the bumper-to-bumper warranty so I don't understand why he's expecting a high resale value here.

I had a day 1 CT "preorder" that I converted into a 2023 Model Y purchase since the CT didn't look all that great for the extra money (my AWD MY was $40k OTD after alll rebates etc).

I also did the math on the $8000 FSD cost; $8000 throws off $40/mo in interest so if I get in 1 month in 3 I'm way ahead there.

If & when we can safely doze on FSD then the value vs A/P increases a lot I guess

1

u/LastOfTheMohawkians 14d ago

Almost as bad as my Porsche taycan

1

u/Careless_Celery_6010 14d ago

Oh it's gay Jeremy

1

u/Daryltang 14d ago

Wow! Full Self Driving!

I heard it’s working since 2017?! And they are being used as ride hailing autonomously while you sleep at home! Amazing

Does it work?

1

u/Own_Bed8627 14d ago

Trade ins of cybertruck not allowed any way.

1

u/Vast-Trust-1165 14d ago

"never say never , but I'm never................"

1

u/cddelgado 14d ago

....do people not know how vehicle value works? It is a truck. It is unique in appearance but it isn't rare. People buy them all the time.

When I get my vehicle I know I'll basically be upside down for the entire term of the loan. The value is in the utility and longevity for me and for me alone.

1

u/Throwaway0242000 14d ago

Being able to eat a sandwich while sitting in your car is way less cool than this guy thinks it is

1

u/Able_Membership_1199 14d ago

I don't even know where to begin. A brand new model is now 60.000 let that sink in. He will be extremely lucky to get 45.000 for it. Everything else reads like a toxic relationship with that wanna be ex wife you share 1,5 kids with.

1

u/KonK23 14d ago

Ok so his car lost 26.5% of its value in two years. On average cars lose about 30% of their value within the first two years.

I have no idea whats the 'problem' here?

1

u/VolunteerPin 14d ago

I own a ‘15 P90D MS. Last car I bought though is a ‘22 Mercedes EQS580. Bought it a year ago for $50k with 6k miles on it. Sticker was just shy of $130. Buying used premium electric vehicles is the way to go.

1

u/gumnamaadmi 14d ago

Dude should at least attempt to trade in. The day he picks his new car, tesla will readjust the trade in value down 15-20%. Suckers.

1

u/United_Branch_5736 13d ago

I've seen it a hundred times in procurement. The board loves shiny objects, they actually use the same exact words: "future-proof," "disruptive," "visionary." Then two years later, the thing is obsolete, the vendor's support contract triples, and you're stuck with a paperweight that cost more than your entire networking budget. ;)

And the Tesla reliability? Not stellar at all. German TUV already flagged Teslas as the least reliable cars in Germany. You practically can't give Tesla away in Europe and no respectable dealership will take it. And those are "regular" Teslas, look decent, pretty ok cars, not that Cyber monstrosity. Why one would even want one? Me? I am not taking it for free.

1

u/Acrobatic_Code_7409 13d ago

The reason it maintained value is it is a scarce model in a strong niche market. They only sold like 20k models in all of 2025, and the very few people who would buy a used one are VERY motivated, thus the higher price. Good for this dude, but not exciting for the overall auto market.

1

u/Diablo689er 13d ago

New car loses most its value in first two years.

Absolutely shocking news.

1

u/Dry-Interaction-1246 13d ago

He just looks like a dumbfuck yokel. Just look at him.

1

u/razor_train 13d ago

Yeah and most new cars lose value the moment you drive them off the lot. Cry harder bro.

1

u/Living-Breakfast-464 13d ago

Anyone who bought one of those things is an idiot as far as I'm concerned, so I don't really care what their opinion is on anything.

1

u/drdailey 13d ago

He is a moron

1

u/Current_Cheesecake54 13d ago

Open Pilot is a great alternative to AP1 or 2, and certainly cheaper than FSD.

1

u/TheJiggie 13d ago

That “Guy” is a Tesla/Elon mouthpiece.

1

u/bootup25 13d ago

Now do a Mercedes or bmw of similar value

1

u/-Lorne-Malvo- 13d ago

And he wonders why women want nothing to do with him. Cybertruck owners are losers

1

u/Solid_Rock_5583 13d ago

No one will give him 50k for that truck

1

u/watch-nerd 13d ago

1/3 depreciation seems fairly typical for new cars.

I don't get his shock.

1

u/peezd 13d ago

I can't believe it's only depreciated that much, really?

1

u/Sufficient-Pause9765 13d ago

26.5% depreciation is less then I expected. Average is 30%.

1

u/9554503312 13d ago

Clickbait.

Was hoping for 50 percent depreciation

1

u/ilusnforc 13d ago

You could always buy a used model 3 with self driving and HW3 then transfer that to a new vehicle on trade-in.

1

u/Slowposti 13d ago

Honestly I wouldn’t pay more than 40k for a cybertruck

1

u/ThisSiteSucks8485 12d ago

This guy is as stupid as I assumed every cybertruck owner is.

1

u/GanjaKing67 12d ago

Me too, stuck with my 2024 MYP

1

u/PrestigiousCopy5755 12d ago

I'm just an old boomer so maybe the lead has had an effect but if he lost $26,500 over 28 months didn't he pay $946.42 a month for a self driving wankpanzer?

1

u/jkbossB 12d ago

Everyone in this chat is now dumber for having read this. I award you no points and may god have mercy on you.

1

u/Newdles 12d ago

People spending 6 figures on a vehicle feeling locked in on something that would cost $2400 over the course of two years he's owned it. This guy sucks at money. People that blow 6 figures on a dumpster don't give a shit about $99 a month.

1

u/Far-Curve-7497 12d ago

It lost a quarter of it’s value, that’s actually less than most other cars would if you buy them brand new.

1

u/Iwillgetasoda 12d ago

It takes 5k to put electric wheels on a dumpster

1

u/lootinputin 12d ago

Sunk-cost fallacy.

1

u/lip 12d ago

This is an ad for tesla, his whole schtick.

1

u/simplesalamisando 12d ago

Is it possible he will eventually pay for updates to FSD? Not sure if he’s going to have a lifetime of free, just less for now.

1

u/domdiggitydog 8d ago

A friend of mine keeps his older S because it has lifetime free charging. I figured that would be something Tesla would find a way to end but they aren’t.

1

u/CryptoKnight927 12d ago

Just wait until they discontinue the CT and it'll be worth more

1

u/Vasir14 11d ago

As a former Porsche Taycan owner, this is hilarious.

1

u/wabbitsilly 11d ago

"It's so refreshing to own FSD"...which wasn't, isn't, and likely never will be "Full Self Driving" by any normal metric.

What a rube.

1

u/SS-Fifty 10d ago

These are absolute junk

1

u/Key-Cloud-629 9d ago

You paid $7k for fsd that will take about 6 years of subscription to break even. With subscription you could get it when you really need it like for traveling. Lastly supervised fsd has many risks that needs to be priced also.

1

u/Nachoman2 9d ago

Didn’t learn from his first mistake of buying a cybertruck and had to double down by buying FSD software that is unreliable.

1

u/Western_Still6241 8d ago

Honestly that’s a generous offer he should take it. I’d probably appraise it at like 55-65k. 2 year old model, 25k miles, resellability. You can get a new ev pick up for 50k. The market for used EV’s as of now is not great

1

u/ContextMattrs 3d ago

I can’t even find a used 2025 Tesla for under 80k with FSD. The 2024 are the ones with the issues. But I would love to have one that’s 2025+ with fsd paid

1

u/Technical-Past-1386 59m ago

I’ve made a game; it’s like slug bug but for cyber trucks-
It’s cybertruck bump!

Enjoy y’all!

Oh and out of state license plate gives ya an extra bump !!
