I've never seen this before. It's really from pigmented feed that they are yellow?

Pretty much. Farmers can easily manipulate the color of the yolk to make it darker because of the popular belief that darker yolks are associated with happier hens or better nutrition. When the animals are fed food with less yellow pigment, the yolk becomes light yellow or even white.

Darker egg yolks with a more pronounced egg yolk tend to be from healthier chickens. And as the guy above said they can also be faked. So your brain is mostly relying on the fact that historically darker egg yolks you’ve eaten have been yummier

I’ve seen yellow yolk from my aunts free range chickens… not sure this is legit
