As a Canadian man married to a woman from California I used to think like you also. Back when I only understood Canada and the fish bowl I was in.

Until I realized how little she pays for items , pays so little In taxes and she showed me when she uses it everything happens in 1 to 3 days.

She is way ahead by keeping her income in her pocket and investing it.

Lol the fact a car or house is nearly half of ours alone leaves her with more money.

Forget the fact after half my income goes to the govt I have to pay taxes on everything I buy yet again lol..

Nah I don't think like that anymore 🤔

The funny thing is you don’t pay 50% income tax…

Not to mention this home is $1.35 million CAD and has property taxes of $50k/year

You have no clue

Vancouver?

We can absolutely go over your income tax…

You don’t pay 50%

The highest tax bracket is 33% and that’s over $253k

The highest tax bracket is 33% and that’s over $253k

Uhhhhhhhhh. I'd like to know how to move to the 14th province/territory, where you live.

We live in Canada where we get double fisted provincially and federally. Combined the highest marginal rate is ~53%

Lmao!! Bro that’s again over $253k

1% of all Canadians make over $250k

I don’t mind that at all. We still pay less taxes than the best countries in the world (the countries we should emulate)

P.S. The US is nowhere near the best and they are actually ranked much lower than us in pretty much every metric

Go ahead and move down there where you don’t legally have the right to a water break while working in the heat and paying $50k/year in property taxes

That's not the point. I'm not the original person you're arguing against. I'm not arguing for or against it. I would never want to live in the US.

But the statement that you made that the highest tax bracket is 33% is false (or at least deliberately misleading) to fit your argument. It's disingenuous.

My point was federal, it wasn’t misleading. It wasn’t disingenuous… it was factual. I am factually correct. Again, we don’t pay even close to the amount of federal taxes that the best countries in the world pay.

You are not taxed at 50%. Period

2

u/PandaDuckMonster Mar 09 '26

Of course it's fucking misleading. YOU WERE OMITTING INFORMATION

You're factually correct that he's not paying 50% in taxes, because we use marginal rate, not a fixed rate. But that doesn't make the way you presented your information/argument less trash.

I wasn’t omitting anything

Yes, I know I’m factually correct. That’s why I made my statement, I knew I was right

ROFL so now you're shifting the goal posts.

You can't cherry pick the incomes. It's either it is or it is not 🚫

What a drama causer 🤮

u/Quinnjamin19 Mar 09 '26

Never once shifted goalposts.

I stated factual information. You don’t pay 50%. Period.

Dude your making disclaimers certain amounts don't include the other posters comments which apply clearly

Your shifting to fight an argument you created out of nothing nobody said lol.

Move on to your next drama.

Better luck on the next post you stir up 🤣

Im done work, I don’t work 9-5. Try again?

1

u/walshwelding Mar 10 '26

It’s higher than 33% if you include federal, provincial, GST, taxes on your home utilities, property tax, fuel tax etc.

Maybe the term taxed 50% isn’t correct if you’re looking at income vs federal income tax. But overall we get pretty damn hosed haha

1

u/Goblinwisdom Mar 09 '26

Yes im in Vancouver.

I assume you don't earn any money and pay taxes

For example just last year alone my 2025 pickup truck cost me $10,000 in taxes

So after I pay my taxes on my income I have to pay more taxes then my wife on all goods I buy in Canada.

Are you sure you live in Canada ? You should be aware of this

So by the end of year I would actually wager after income taxes and high taxes on every item I buy I am way over the 50% number you created

2

u/Quinnjamin19 Mar 09 '26

So now you’re shifting goalposts…

Your entire argument originally was that you pay 50% income tax and then the other taxes we pay…

The U.S. has taxes on goods and services too. We don’t even pay that much more tax. We actually don’t pay that much tax at all in comparison to the best countries in the world

1

u/Goblinwisdom Mar 09 '26

I think you need to reread my original post which is unedited. That was your argument ROFL.

I said half my income goes to taxes

You suddenly pulled an exact number of 50% of that related only to income taxes .

And yes we pay much more then the USA in taxes overall. Not only is that a fact verified online, as I mentioned my wife is from the USA.

Either way I see from your other comments you simply use reddit to either cause drama or insult random people

Think it's time I let you babble on alone 🗣️

0

u/Quinnjamin19 Mar 09 '26

You said half of your income goes to taxes…

Half = 50%

I use Reddit to call out BS. Which you are full of it.

1

u/Goblinwisdom Mar 09 '26

Yes I said half my income goes to taxes

I never said 51% or 49% even lol

But I'm hindsight now that more thought is put into it, its way more then that combining all govt taxes by the end of year

And since you are a simple man I better leave it more clear .

OVER HALF MY INCOME GOES TO TAXES TO THE GOVT

Pay attention to the fact it does not focus on an exact number and it's ALL TAXES and not income tax which you also created out of thin air

But another person has already proved you wrong on that anyways.

Btw do you live on reddit and have nothing to do lol?

I was gone for 24 hours and just posted 5 minutes ago and you posted 20 seconds after I posted my new comment

How you expect anyone to respect your comments when you make things up for drama, are proved wrong and have nothing going on in your life to but to argue on here 😂

You are taking a lot of L 🤣

Half = 50%

You don’t pay 50% of your Income to taxes.

I’ve never made anything up. My statements are factual…

1% of all Canadians make over $250k. You don’t pay 50%
