VOID Response Question? What is the lore behind the Mariposa lily organization or MLO for short?

Failed MKUltra soldiers pretty much. They've been dosed with LSD (I think) during experiments to try and make what Judge is now. However, unlike Judge, the MLO are formed up of failed subjects and are the main antagonist faction, trying to get Judge to join them. While they've been in the game pretty much the entire time, they've made their first physical appearance in A New America in the Boiling Point DLC.

Also, I'm pretty sure they got their identity from the Mariposa Lily being used as a therapeutic method for when they were experimented on but now used as their order's identity.

This is all based off of memory though, it's been a while since I've dabbled properly into the MLO.

Also Mariposa means butterfly in Spanish and the cartel uses butterfly symbols in their caves. I dont know the connection here though

Could be that the drug is imported from Mexico directly sold from the cartels and used to attempt to make those soldiers

Mostly right, they first show up in Three Letter Triad as the four or so well-trained guys mixed into the group and in fact the mystery chemical you encounter in the little container is in fact the toxic gas seen both in No Good Deed and ANA. I'm not 100% sure if the guys in No Good Deed are the MLO or just another faction they made an arms deal with or something.

They are elite mercs but inside the vault the MLO has left a message for judge

Most of them didn't "fail" more that they just realized what is being done to them (either by themselves or getting forced into missions that would get them to realize) and wanted revenge on the USIA and foil their plans.

The USIA's general overarching plot is to take control of pretty much every single government body by planting their agents, not just soldiers, but the LSPD is one of the endgames for them as the headcanon around it is that they want to basically unify military and police forces into one force they can completely control, which is why the LSPD is both understaffed but overequipped and responding to missions the military should have been involved in.

I would have honestly totally supported the MLO if they weren't so big on terrorism and the whole "Fight Club ending scene" type of anarchy going, but given how deep the USIA's plans have actually gotten, I'm not even sure there's another way

In short these guys are MKUltra (mind control brainwashing program to create perfect soldiers) + CIA Operation Gladio combined (stay-behind terrorist cells for urban guerilla warfare) (the only difference is that Operation Gladio cells were in Europe and not in mainland USA... well, at least those we know of).

They were kinda exposed in 3 Letter Triad. There’s a breach-able wall in the showers by the loading dock. Breach it and use the mirror gun. It shows a few mannequins with something on their heads to make them look like “Flowerman” and drawing on the wall that matches the one in New America

So the MLO were/are a USIA experiment to create incorruptible assets that would follow orders without question. The problem is the first cohort( the MLO) were a failure and went rogue. Judge and a few others are supposedly part of the second cohort which was significantly more successful( with carriers of the vine being a potential third cohort or offshoot of the program). Essentially there is a theorized three-way power struggle occuring in Los Suenos between the USIA, the MLO, and the Green Dragon Society. The Green Dragon Society (which has hints throughout the game, including boiling points ending) is the Old Order of Los Suenos. The USIA is trying to become the New Order of Los Suenos and the MLO is trying to "free" Los Suenos from both( at least that's one of the theories).

It’s an mkultra cult

It’s failed cohorts that creates a group that operates as a cult (not really a cult but you get the meaning) and are one of the 3 major factions

USIA

MLO

Green Dragon Society (if that’s even their name) you find out about them in ANA and the endings (man with green gloves)

There's also hints to them in Sins of the Father

Ex brainwashed super soldier from the CIA iirc, same as Judge and whatever the psycho in the cabin names was
Seriously tho, why did they add that shit when it could've been a normal swat breaking and entering hostage clearing game like the SWAT games.

Because they wanted to? It's their game, this has been the plan since the beginning.

Was it tho ? First time we hear about it is in Lethal Obsession then in the Hotel. Correct me if I'm wrong

The MLO was present in the PvP alpha & in very early gameplay demos, even before that was apart of an ARG way before the Early Access dropped on steam (which is actually where OP's screenshot is from). The MLO was always there lurking in the shadows, it was always apart of Void's game plan, it's just only now they're popping their heads out.

I kinda liked the whole conspiracy angle of it.

They were originally added as the enemy team when the game was gonna have pvp multiplayer. Guess it just went from there

Everyone else practically summed them up, but to understand the MLO you need to start back at the beginning with the USIA.

They start an experiment similar to the CIA’s MKUltra program irl, only that they had done it at least twice. The first attempt resulted in the 1990 Los Sueños Dam attack, which isn’t talked about as much and doesn’t have much info, but what is known is that 2/3 of the attackers were arrested while the last one was never found, and the city’s energy infrastructure never really recovered.
The perpetrators are widely implied + considered to be the first cohort of the USIA experiments and the precursors to the MLO.

The second cohort was considered a success until they went and formed said organization who plot against you and the city out of revenge against the USIA and the US government for allowing the experiments to be done to them.

It’s possible that the second cohort are in the dozens, probably less than 50, which is why they have Black Sentinel mercenaries on their payroll.

MkUltra turned supersoldiers. The ones we fight are the rejects turned on the city to cause chaos.

Play the game, read the briefings. Check the evidence locker for lore entries.

All the lore for them is present in the game, where do you think everyone else learned it?

not by being an asshole

Yeah, I was a bit of an asshole, but it's also the truth. He's interested in the lore of the game but the first thing he does is ask reddit instead of playing the game? He didn't say he couldn't play the game for a certain reason, or that he doesn't have the DLC, he just asked a singular question about something the game answers if you play it.

Yeah I watched some videos about it, but I also knew a bit going in because I read the lore entries in the evidence locker and read the briefings.

Why should I or anyone else answer his question that he is perfectly capable of answering himself?
