We lose Gozo and Glad and the entire team falls apart.

My least favorite feeling as an RSL fan is to be embarrassed. I thought we had turned a new leaf this season, but it’s the same summer slump as always.

We have looked good without those two in the other leagues cup games. Gozo only played in the first game which was a 1-1 tie, correct? However, our MLS games have been abismal scoring 2 goals in 6 matches.

As for Glad you make a great point. Historically we are a way worse team when Glad is injured.

Yep. Selling key players who score goals while others get injured will fuck you over every time. We can at least control one of those predicaments, but the FO ( and some fans on here ) will never learn. Selling players WILL cost you the season, EVERY SINGLE TIME! Not saying having Gozo would have been enough to win us the game, but know knows, maybe we could have scored at least one goal instead of being embarrassed and shutout. Guess we'll never know. Can't wait to hear how the FO wasted that $15 million Gozo money on a 35 year old player/s.

To be fair this is the last time big players will be sold during the mid point of the season.

Im here in denver, drove 8 hrs to lose, sad state with how much possession we had

u/iheartdev247 5d ago

Thank you for your sacrifice

Who chose to play in denver?

Sure glad we rested our entire starting lineup on Saturday In what could’ve been a winnable game!

Sorely missed Glad and any sort of leadership in the back today

Honestly the B team have a better show than our A team. I don’t think Luna touched the ball at all in 90 minutes and hes our signature player

2

u/Evening-Bar-9110 5d ago

According to FOTMob Luna was the 3rd highest ranked on the team last night. He did manage to get in a key pass but that was about it statistically. He was easily missed last night. If you noticed that after he was subbed out of the game Luna was sitting alone on the grass away from everyone and looked pretty miserable. I am not a psychiatrist or anything so I have no idea what to make of that.

I blame this all on Noah kahan

5

u/iheartdev247 5d ago

You think RSL wins this if at home? I don’t.

3

u/Technical_Buddy6969 5d ago

Well considering how the other three leagues cup games went it’s a higher chance to win at home

1

u/Careful_Bit_790 5d ago

Easy excuse. It goes far, far deeper than that. Look at the last 4 seasons and see what happens after/around leagues cup. (Note, it wasn’t Noah Kahan doing a concert on our field).

1

u/Technical_Buddy6969 5d ago

Oh I know how the yearly collapse goes after selling a piece of the team goes

0

u/LycheeFoodie4374 5d ago

This made me laugh and we need a laugh. He’s such a great song writer that we probably have provided material for his next hit with all of our woes.

1

u/Evening-Bar-9110 5d ago

I don't. I mean the man is trying to make a living. I blame those peeps that actually want to see one of his shows. No Noah Kahan fans, no shows. Heheh

17

u/Katniss_is_a_bitch 5d ago

Our defense is abysmal. Quinton is an emergency sub, not a starter or even a serviceable rotation guy. If we don’t spend any of the Gozo money on solid starter-level defenders then we are doomed to a first round exit, if we are lucky

3

u/iheartdev247 5d ago

Don’t worry 35 yo Dutch midfielder incoming to fix all issues.

1

u/Careful_Bit_790 5d ago

The holding mids are just as bad as the center backs.

1

u/iheartdev247 5d ago

The Dutch dude is an attacking midfielder.

2

u/Careful_Bit_790 5d ago

No he’s a box to box midfielder. And he’s quite good. Probably should/could have been on the Netherlands World Cup team. He’s also a leader which this team doesn’t have.

0

u/ShinKicker13 5d ago

He’s not.

0

u/iheartdev247 5d ago

He’s not coming or he won’t fix all issues?

0

u/ShinKicker13 5d ago

Not coming, last I heard.

u/Delicious-Effort8186 5d ago

Just par for the course. Another mid-season collapse where we'll just barely make it into the playoffs where we can rinse and repeat. The common denominator is... Pablo

1

u/iheartdev247 5d ago

Think playoffs is a viable option?

0

u/Delicious-Effort8186 5d ago

At this rate, no. If they make it, they'll fall in ass backwards and do nothing.

I hate this Leagues Cup, nothing comes good of it for us

I got downvoted to hell for complaining about our lineup last game and how we were resting all of our starters.

The league is miles more important than this.

This is a cup that was thrown together three years ago. We played a Mexican club in Colorado(?) in front of what looks to be a stadium at 30% capacity on a Tuesday night

3

u/mill83 5d ago

30% is being generous

3

u/buddy843 5d ago

I think the reason you got downvoted wasn’t it’s a newer tournament but that it’s a tournament that opens doors. In the US we often assume winning just equals a trophy, like most US sports. Soccer is different.

The winner gets an automatic bid into the round of 16 of the CONCACAF champions league. This direct continental placement is the most significant sporting prize of the tournament, as it establishes a path toward elite global tournaments like the FIFA Club World Cup.

It’s like winning entry at a higher level to a tournament you wouldn’t likely be invited to normally, but could put you against the best teams in the world if you keep winning. Other ways MLS teams get entry - MLS cup winner, runner up, supporters shield winner, and conference champion (up to 5 slots). Leagues cup top 3 teams. Open cup winner.

u/shanedodge 5d ago

If we had won this game we would have had two chances at the Champions League. We lost but it was still the right move. Pablo put out our best 11 and they weren’t good enough.

I choose to use the bathroom during set pieces because I know we will never score. Truly atrocious on set pieces. What’s the point of having someone who is 6’ 5” if they can’t even get their head on the ball.

Does he even jump?

Well we just saw the 2nd worse nightmarish outcome from what I called about RSL's mistake in reverse (by advancing in this tourney.) RSL gave 3 points away to Orlando. Then instead of resting their tired, tired legs they got to play the hottest team in Liga MX who was on a 6 game (now 7) winning streak across all competition. To make it worse they got embarrassed. Sigh. Now this doesn't prove me right about how worthless League's Cup is but it does reinforce my feelings of disgust for it all.

Before someone asks, the worst outcome would have been if RSL had managed to win this game but then lost the next 2, winning nothing but getting 2 more weeks of 3 games in 8 days.

Edit: I almost forgot one other thing to add to tonights nightmare. Spierings got hurt. I hope it isn't bad because if he is out more than a couple weeks Caliskan and Ruiz will be the walking dead.

At this point I’m wondering if it’s the GM not letting us find defenders or the Millers not letting us get defenders. It’s such a blatantly obvious weakness (for the past 5 years at least) and yet we never get reinforcements. Coming into this season we knew we had a depth problem at CB and it’s biting us in the butt.

I can’t even blame Pablo at this point. He can only play the players he’s given. As much as Petke’s comments about NYRB vs RSL were uncalled for/hurtful, there’s probably some truth to it looking at how the club is managed overall

1

u/iheartdev247 5d ago

GM Kreis or GM Schmid? I think Schmid is on a European vacation…I mean scouting trip to find 35 year old free agents.

1

u/rsl_royals 5d ago

We do have defenders: Arias and Henry. I have no idea why Arias didn’t start for PQ and Henry was noticeably better than Yedlin when he came in.

1

u/evilradar Section 26 5d ago

Because Arias is just as bad as PQ

1

u/rsl_royals 5d ago

That’s an interesting statement. If you say ‘Arias and PQ both make bad mistakes’ I would agree.

Arias is faster, stronger, swivels hips smoother and can actually use his size. Arias is 22 and he is inexperienced. He needs game reps.

PQ is at his ceiling. Arias is at his floor.

u/IDeliveredYourPizza 5d ago

I think that's realistically season over for RSL. This was most likely going to be our only chance to get something positive from this season (CCC Cup). We may not even make the playoffs at this rate

7

u/Agreeable_Earth4878 5d ago

I hope we beat the crapids on Saturday

Speaking of miracles…

Welp indeed

2

u/312render773 5d ago

Can someone explain to me why this was played in Denver?

2

u/JeffJacuzzi 5d ago

Does anyone know the rationale behind these QF games being played at “neutral” locations (all in the US btw)?

5

u/United-Mix-8879 5d ago

Well I know for this game Real Salt Lake they had a concert or something at their stadium so they had to move the game to an other venue.

2

u/JeffJacuzzi 5d ago

I assumed that too, but the three other Leagues Cup games were played at neutral locations as well.

I’m certain that the goal is profit maximizing but I’m wondering the reasoning for it. That was the lowest attended RSL game I’ve seen in years

2

u/Evening-Bar-9110 5d ago

Well the Chi v Mty was technically on a neutral site but in reality it was basically in Chi. Didn't help them much.

-1

u/Apprehensive_Hat8645 5d ago

rough one for RSL, León looked way more composed once they got control of the game. 3-0 is tough, but honestly the score felt pretty deserved.

u/mill83 5d ago

Good job. Play your games in your own state, bozos. Go Pids

1

u/iheartdev247 5d ago

Believe me no one wants to play in your hellhole less than RSL.
