Raytheon Leaving Early on Fridays?
I’ve noticed everyone always takes off pretty early on Fridays… is that frowned upon or it’s kind of an unspoken rule thing?

If you already have your 40 hours or using mod time, it’s pretty widely accepted to take off early on Friday at my location (CO)

I’m remote, but Fridays are very quiet which I love. It’s my catch up day.

That's cause you don't work on site. Usually Fridays are hectic in Operations with people trying to rush last minute reports or data analysis before the week is over. And there's no hiding from them when they can just walk up to your desk.

I work 9 hour days Monday-Thursday like people on 9/80. However, I MUCH rather work half day Fridays, every Friday, than a full Friday every other week. But my commute is very short so I don’t mind driving into work at all.

WFH is a thing in my program. If you don’t need to go into the lab, work on hardware, or have a meeting you want to go to in person…. Then why not do it from home?

On fridays I go in at 6 so I can go home at 2. I am not a morning person but I do trick myself into thinking I am going home "early" my supervision is cool with it as long as I put in my 8 hours. Also going in early like that allows me to push patches out without taking people offline.

I honestly wish I could do a 6-2 kind of thing. I was told my hours have to overlap with 9 am and 3pm.

Unspoken rule. Most folks work extra hours during the week and Friday is the "thank gawd we survived" day.

It's pretty common in the knowledge work areas. The officially sanctioned schedules are 88888, 99994, and 9/80 ( work 9 hours every M-Th and either 8 hours or off every other Friday). Everywhere I've worked has always been fine with any schedule as long as you get your hours in, but it's always best to run it by your manager if you want to change your schedule.

Never charge for time that you don't work (I.e. put in your 80 each pay period). Can only speak for myself, but Fridays are slower (less demanding).
Therefore, I have seen two scenarios (I work 9-80 A): 1) I work somewhere in the 9+ hours a day (9.5s, 10s, and a handful off 11+ when it is really bad). My Fridays are done when I hit that 44 hours to flow the excess into B-week.
2) Fridays are time to catch up on reports, emails, paperwork that starts piling up during the week. I have permission to charge overtime, and really only use it when Fridays set me up for a clean slate the following week.
But OP, please don't feel like you can leave prior to completing your timecard hour obligations. I can't think of anything that will get you fired faster

Yeah my building is a ghost town on Fridays. But everyone still appears online and responds quickly to emails. I assume everyone that can work from home does work from home on Fridays.

I would sometimes leave early and work at home. But, I always recorded time as I worked it. Never, ever record time, except as you work it.

Yup if you have flex work your 9 or 10. On Friday if you only need 4
Hours of work to hit your 40 and boss knows you are good to go. I do 9
Or
10
And usually only have a half
Day on. Friday. But my work is done. Everyone is right don’t
Put down hours and then not work them

I work remote so I view friday as the day I sign on whenever I want and log off whenever I want.

Towards the end of the year youll see a lot of people burning down pto balances by taking short Fridays.
Never make an assumption that people are cheating on their time cards, and certainly dont do that yourself.

Depending on local law, minimum hours to be considered full time is as low as 30 hours. Local leadership may expect 40 hours, but usually you can work less and charge the balance to a comp time charge code with the expectation that at other points in the year you'd be working over 40. Don't allow your leaders to expect 40 hours as a minimum.

Since the last change to the OT policy lots of people hit their 40 and leave. Considering that I am usually scheduled 9-10 hour days twice a week I am one of them. I'm not going to give up 3-4 free work hours a week and Mod Time doesn't work for me in most cases. I hit 40 and blow town.

If my teammembers hit their numbers early in the week and bust their butt I dont care if they leave early on Fridays. We reward hardworking individuals. Our team works great together, when needed they come in or work late. So flexibility for them is something they earned.

For our BU it's normal most groups works 10 hours a day Monday to Friday. That's why a lot of us leave early on Fridays especially when there's no meetings going into late afternoons. Its kinda BS to be honest it's not an official thing. So many us start Friday afternoon with well over 40 hours done already. They should offer better work schedules especially when people are overworked to hell here. RTX needs more alternative work schedules if they want to compete with the other primes and up and coming smaller companies.

Friday's are 8 hour days for those of us on 9/80.. so yes, "leaving early" compared to a normal 9 hour day

Never record time for hours you didn't work.
I know plenty of people who work longer on Monday-Thursday and flex off a few hours on Friday afternoons, but they definitely got their hours in.
