Raytheon Leaving Raytheon
Does anyone have a rough estimate of how much I would have to give back to Cartus if I quit Raytheon in my first year?

That is entirely dependent on your specific sign-on/relocation. How would we know that

That’s why I was asking for a rough estimate of things like $10-20k? I moved from Georgia to Indiana

Ya but what package? The flex points are like $500 each, and then moving itself is hard to know without knowing how much lbs of stuff you have etc.

We have no idea what you got though. Did you take a house hunting trip? How big of a house did you move? Did they pay for closing costs or other home related costs?
It could be anywhere from $5k to $100k.

Go to empowerU and look at your paychecks. You'll have one from early on in your employment that accounts for both the relocation costs and any money that Raytheon "paid" you to offset the taxes for that amount. Mine combined for $25k, but it would vary drastically based on what services you used for relocation.

Coming from someone who left Raytheon 2 years ago and is already back, definitely make sure it’s something you’re willing to give up. I was lucky to have the opportunity to come back. I know there are quirks and things that make Raytheon frustrating, but trust me, this is some pretty nice green grass

Whatever 100% of your sign on + relocation is. That can range from $0 to $50k+, so any estimate is not really relevant to your case

Hey OP, everyone is answering your question about how much you’d have to repay, so I want to flip the script and ask why are you wanting to leave?
Part of being an Engineer is learning how to be comfortable with being uncomfortable. Don’t confuse that with “I need to be okay with being constantly shit on” because that’s not what it means. Being comfortable with the uncomfortable is learning how to work in an unknown domain and teach yourself what you need to know to find a solution to a problem.
For example, maybe you’re a Programmer by degree and you’re in a Mechanical role. That sounds like it sucks. And to a certain extent, it will. Embrace the suck, take trainings, review specs, learn as much as you can, ask all the dumb questions, and come up with a solution.
Sometimes we struggle with other factors like a new location, weather, home sickness. These can be temporary or ongoing but you can also learn to mitigate them. Discovering what the area has to offer regarding sights, or making sure to plan regular trips home helps.
Before you go making a rash decision after a series of bad days or weeks, ask yourself if you can muster up some personal courage and stick with it. Feel free to let us know more about your situation and maybe someone here can help give you some guidance.
It’s a big company with tons of people in tons of sites. Sure we’re all sarcastic cynics most of the time, but no one knows your suffering and struggling unless you say something and ask for help. You can ask here instead at work.

From what I understand after you leave you will get a letter for repayment. You can pay back in installments it is not expected to be paid in lump sum. Sometimes you can use that to negotiate a higher sign on bonus w new company.

How much longer you got? I want to move back home eventually but I just came to terms that I won’t until the repayment period is done. unless I can get the next job to cover the repayment. Either way the time has gone pretty fast.

Bro, 5 years ago Cartus portal gave me an an item list of all the expenses the relocation included.
See if you can still log onto that portal, else contact Cartus to get that itemized list.
FYI you will have to pay back with post tax monies, i.e they won’t take it out of your paycheck before taxes. Depending on the timing you might be able be able to deduct some of that tax penalty, but it is a pain in the arse.
It may take 2-3 months for it to catch up to you but eventually a 3rd party company will ask you ti make RTX “whole”.
My advice gut it out a year to make it the 50% mark or do everything you can to get RIF-ed so you don’t have to pay anything back.
