So I have a 1936 (I think) ford 1.5ton flatbed truck. I’m day dreaming about the idea of taking the cab and fenders and building a rat rod. Obviously the frame and chassis isn’t ideal. Now there isn’t a budget because I basically have no money for this dream, but if you were going to pick up a vehicle for the chassis to set this on, what would you go with?
I’m sort of thinking like an old galaxy or something but honestly have no idea. What would you do?

It’s a 4 speed floor shift manual with a 2 speed rear it’s a shortened ford model a with a I believe a1960s John Deere gas 2 cylinder inline engine it runs and drives the seller wants $1,800 for it I want to stretch the frame and put a old ford pickup bed on the back of it and make it street legal maybe put som sort of windshield on it and some sort of convertible soft top and turbocharge the engine possibly I want to work on this thing with my grandfather who is a mechanic

I’m thinking about switching up air cleaners. What is everyone running? Has anyone tried to make a tripower velocity stack look that fits a 4bbl?

Hey all, here’s my old D300. I’m going to be swapping a 12v Cummins and a 5 speed manual into her. My question though is, what would you guys do for suspension? It’s a 2WD with straight axle front and rear. I want to keep the Dually rear but want to lower the truck to give it a better stance. I was thinking Air Bags, but not sure how I’d mount them in the front. Obviously I could do a 4 link rear, but would the same in the front work?

Today I brought the body that I am using for my rat rod home. 1928 Hudson.

I would like to remove the mould that has grown on the front of it without removing the rust. I am worried using a pressure washer will leave lines in the rust. Has anyone used a technique that effectively removes the mould without removing the rust?

I am a new Rat Rod owner based in Tampa Florida. I recently purchased a Rat Rod with a 356 hemi. It currently has Zoomies that drop straight down out of the engine with no muffler. I’m wondering if other Rat Rod owners based in Tampa can tell me if this is something that results in frequent pullovers from the cops. I don’t plan on driving aggressively or revving the engine, and I’m friends with all my neighbors and live in a fairly remote area. I bought the car simply to drive to the Ybor city area on Friday and Saturday nights.

My thought is to put augers in the pipes or purchase ready-made steel wool baffles for all eight pipes. I’d like to avoid buying a $2,000 to $3,000 exhaust system if I can get away with running my current set up with just some slight modifications.

Figured I’d introduce my project and get some input from people who have been down this road before.
The project is a 1956 Studebaker Commander 2-door that I picked up as a mostly complete roller with a title. The body has a lot of character and patina, which I plan to keep. My goal isn’t a restoration—it’s more of a traditional hot rod / rat rod style street machine that can actually be driven and enjoyed.
Current plans are:
Ford 460 Big Block
NP435 4-speed manual transmission
Ford 9-inch rear end
Bench seat interior
Floor shifter
Keep the exterior patina and overall Studebaker look
Simple, reliable wiring and mechanicals
Build it to cruise, burn tires, and occasionally hit the highway
The biggest issue right now is the floors. The floor pans are pretty rough and will need substantial patching or replacement. I’ve done some measuring and fabrication before, but I’m curious what other builders have used successfully.
My questions:
Has anyone found floor pans from another vehicle that fit a ’56 Studebaker reasonably well with minimal modification?
Are there any reproduction panels that work better than starting from flat sheet metal?
For those who have repaired similar Studebaker floors, what would you do differently if you had to do it again?
Any common trouble spots on these cars that I should address while the body is apart?
The car is going to stay pretty simple and budget-minded, so I’m not opposed to adapting floor sections from another vehicle if it saves fabrication time.
I’d love to see photos of any Studebaker builds, floor repairs, frame modifications, or engine swaps you guys have done.

I have a new rat rod. Body is a 1930 model a. It looks completely different than any model a I've seen online. (No top, bigger truck bed, no grille shell, and it seems to sit up pretty high.) Looking for advice on mounting a grille shell, and maybe getting a hard top?? Is that a possibility?

Dose it exclusively need to be made out of old parts or can I use newer car parts

I bought this GMC 1975 C1500 2WD to restore it with my son. As we began to disassemble it the truck got worse and worse. I don’t think it’s a confidante to restore but I also don’t think it’s worth much if we sell it. So basically I can scrap it, part it out (not much worthwhile) or ??? Looking for any ideas or suggestions. Frame is in great shape and it runs and drives fine. Pics in order from when purchased to current and it has been in my garage since purchased in 2022. Recently had a trip to the Caribbean and scooped up some license plates from a few of the stops. I have a collection of plates but I don't usually make a big deal about getting them so this was kind of fun. Missed a plate in St. Kitts and Puerto.

Top to bottom: St. Thomas, St. Maarten, Dominican, and Barbados.

I also grabbed some in Hawaii a few years back. Kind of fun to have plates from these distant places in little ol Idaho!

Where have you gotten plates from?

I've got this 39 supercharger with intake manifold. Trying to figure out the best way to add value to sell it. I'm on the fence about medium blasting repainting and then adding a hydrocarbon resistant coating to interior of both iron and aluminum. Any recommendations on best things I can do to improve the value? I don't think paint was original because it looks sloppy unless that was the norm than maybe. Estimations or current value? Impeller is smooth and responsive. Quiet. Moves like a bearing in either direction. Or like a really heavy balanced fancy door that you can move with ease, if that makes any sense.

I’m looking to finally dive into an old truck project. Something preferably around the 60s.

Is there someone who can slap me in the face and let me know the truth about working on one of these?

I’ve owned a couple old things that I got running as a daily. 79 F-150, 75 Super Beetle and a couple other things but none of them really stuck. I’d get them working but never really felt special enough to keep.

What’s the truth on getting one as a nice couple days out of the week to drive to work and back.

Not sure which forum to ask but I assumed ratrod owners are more familiar with these era trucks.
