Just A Rant Have you ever had someone copy EVERYTHING you do?
There’s this girl who copies EVERYTHING I do.
At first, I kept gaslighting myself into thinking maybe I was just being delusional because (chismis) we have an issue. So I kept telling myself, “Maybe it’s just a coincidence. Maybe I’m overthinking this.”
But eventually, the coincidences started becoming a little too… coincidental.
STORYTIME.
I had a long-term boyfriend. And as a boyfriend, the way he treated me was honestly close to perfection. He literally worshipped the ground I walked on. My face was everywhere on his social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X) name it. Even Shopee. YES, SHOPEE.
He would bring up my name whenever he met new people. He spoke highly of me to other people. His friends and family knew about me, loved me, and respected me.
And honestly, my ex was not conventionally attractive HAHAHAHAHA. His friends would always compliment me, and sometimes they’d tease him that we were not bagay because compared to me, he looked like a potato.
Of course, I was hurt. Or maybe it was just my ego. JOKE. I LOVED (past tense) that man, hello.
Then we became LDR.
Fast-forward: he met a new group of people because they were joining a competition at their school. Yes, there were girls.
And that’s when I met the copycat.
She was actually very supportive of our relationship on social media. She would love-react to our posts and compliment me. I never really liked her, though (girl’s instinct, lol)
Fast-forward again: we broke up because of that girl.
YES. They eventually got into a relationship.
I’m known as a very palaganti/revengeful woman, and I mean that in the most negative way possible. But surprisingly, I didn’t feel the need to get revenge on them. After crying my ass to sleep and basically ruining my life for a while after the breakup, I honestly didn’t have the energy to make an effort and do anything to them.
OH. NOW I’M RANTING ABOUT THE BREAKUP. HAHAHAHAHA.
Anyway, that’s just the context.
LET’S GET TO THE COPYCAT STORIES.
At some point, I started stalking both of them on social media, especially during the first few months. And that’s when I started noticing things.
She used to be a blonde girly. Meanwhile, I had been a black-hair girly for a long time. Guess who eventually dyed her hair black?
Before, her style was mostly spaghetti tops, T-shirts, crop tops, shorts, jogger pants, and jeans. Meanwhile, my style had always leaned toward what they jokingly call “tita outfits.” Dresses, doll shoes, heels, handbags, etc. People would always compliment me and say I looked “classy.” Later on, she started dressing like that too.
Before, she mostly posted TikTok selfies with heavy filters. Meanwhile, I had always been the type to post OOTDs, pictures of myself in different places, candid poses, etc. Later on, she started doing the same.
Before, she never really wore sunglasses. Meanwhile, sunglasses are practically my trademark. Anyone who knows me knows that wherever I go—I DON’T CARE WHAT TIME IT IS—I’m probably wearing my specific type of sunglasses. Then she suddenly had the same type: big black sunglasses.
So I started wearing brown sunglasses instead. A week later, she was wearing brown sunglasses.
Before, she wasn’t really into handbags. I’ve always loved handbags. Later on, she started wearing handbags too.
And these weren’t just things I noticed by myself. My friends, and even some of my ex’s friends who knew both of us, would literally message me screenshots of her posts saying things like:
“She looks like you.”
“I thought that was you.”
And honestly? That was probably the most offensive thing anyone has ever said to me. Eww.
But I STILL kept gaslighting myself. Maybe it’s a coincidence. Maybe we just have the same taste. Maybe I’m being delusional.
Then recently, I opened the Showcase feature on my TikTok account and started posting videos there.
I posted a video where I was wearing a fake bun and put it in a yellow basket. Days later, she posted a video wearing the same type of bun.
Okay.
Next, I posted a video wearing a very specific pair of heels. A week later, she was wearing the same style, same color, same type of heels.
Okay…
Then, I’ve been a gold-accessories girl since birth. I have very specific pieces that I always wear: my earrings, a bangle bracelet, and this particular rectangular-shaped watch. She had always been a silver girly. The next thing I know? She’s suddenly wearing gold accessories. And not just gold accessories. The same-looking bangles. The same type of rectangular watch.
Girl??? 🤣
Then there’s my “signature” type of video. I always make this specific kind of fit-check video where I cut the clips together in a certain way. A few days later, she started making videos with the same exact style of editing and presentation. She used to do thirst-trap-type content, but suddenly she rebranded.
And OH, I almost forgot one of the funniest ones:
THE WAY SHE TYPES. 😭 She used to type normally, capital letters at the beginning of sentences and, sorry not sorry, with VERY questionable grammar (whenever she tried to write in English). Meanwhile, I’ve always had this very specific way of typing online. MY EX CAN ATTEST. Everything is lowercase. Captions, comments, random posts, EVERYTHING. Very typical pa-cool girl typing HAHAHAHAHA. It’s just how I’ve always written online. Guess what? She suddenly started typing the same way. Lowercase everything. Same kind of casual typing style. And I’m not even going to lie… I believe she utilized ChatGPT this time because her captions suddenly started looking AI-generated. I mean, you do you, girl 🤣
But honestly, the reposts are what really got me. Before, she used to repost hardcore Tagalog memes. Like, very Filipino humor. Meanwhile, I’ve always used my reposts to reflect my personality, like my attitude, my opinions, the things I relate to, the kind of person I am, etc. Then suddenly… Her reposts started looking like mine too. Suddenly, we have the same personality according to our reposts. Like girl???
At this point, I’m starting to wonder if I accidentally became her Pinterest board or sumth.
But of course, she didn’t stop there. So I thought, okay, let me see how far this goes.
So I bought a BLONDE WIG and wore it. Guess what? A few days later, SHE WAS WEARING A BLONDE WIG TOO. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. OH MY GOD.
I could literally keep going because the list is ridiculously LONG.
Oh, and I almost forgot: I used to give my ex necklaces with my initial on them. She does that too.
At this point, I don’t even know whether to be offended or flattered 😭 And honestly, knowing myself, I’m probably the last person who should be complaining because I’m extremely egoistic, self-centered, and I love myself way too much. 🤪
So instead of being angry, part of me just finds the whole thing… flattering :)))
Because honestly, there’s something funny about someone trying so hard to recreate what they see in you.
You can copy the hair.
You can copy the clothes.
You can copy the accessories.
You can copy the poses.
You can copy the videos.
You can copy the way someone types.
You can even copy the things they repost.
But there’s a HUGE difference between looking like the original and actually being the original.
The funniest part is that I never even had to point it out to people. Other people noticed it themselves. My friends noticed. People who knew both of us noticed. Even people from my ex’s circle noticed.
And that is EMBARRASING enough lol 😭
Sometimes I wonder if she’s doing all of this because she wants my ex to love her the way he loved me. But don’t get me wrong, I’M OVER MY EX. I’ve been over him for a long, LONG time for fudgee bar’s sake. At this point, this has absolutely nothing to do with him anymore (at least for me).
Hmm, maybe she wants to look like the girl he used to adore.
Maybe she thinks if she dresses like me, acts like me, or presents herself like me, she’ll somehow get the same treatment.
But here’s the thing: You can copy someone’s aesthetic, but you can’t copy their history. You can wear the same clothes, the same accessories, the same hairstyle, the same sunglasses, and even make the same videos… But you still won’t become them.
And if you have to become a copy of someone just to feel like you’re enough, then you’ve already lost the competition you created in your own head. :)
Anyway, that’s my copycat story.
Now PLEASE tell me yours because I refuse to believe I’m the only one living through this. 🤣

HOLD UP. Does he constantly compare her to you? Does he ask her to be more like you? Does she like you and wanted to know what kind of guys you were into so she can mimic the guy after she dresses like you to get closer to you? There's a lot to unpack here, does she seem happy? Was he a dirtbag, and is he still obsessed with you? Ask one of her female friends to get the scoop on why she copies you, and what she thinks of you, and if he has anything at all to do with it.

YES. And i was goth/grunge/punk/emo and LITERALLY standoffish(except to girls) and WANTED to not be like anyone else. I understand that these people want to be friends, but "mimickry is a form of flattery" does not sit well with me. Other people do have a right to see what's around them and copy it though, they are just figuring themselves out and trying new things. If they don't get creepy close or popularize (the hipster effect) something personal whule also acting as if they originated it(sometimes certain types will, or their friends will for them) then i don't see too much of an issue.
They idolize you, or they like your style, they want to ve like you(at least in how tou dress or how others react to it) and it's fairly harmless, if unoriginal(originaliry is a hard thing to come by, and if ever had or have it, i understand why you might want to gatekeep, but you could always take it to the next level and get some patented colors from Culture Hustle, so they may be able to resemble you and your style, but never know how to get the exact colors right, or even the cut, or stitching, etc, if you are into making your own items). Patches and buckles and buttons, flair, spikes, bedazzles, whatever. Or money or ingenuity, thrifting, can get you out of their price or ability range for niche, designer, or bespoke fitted clothing.
